Fey

A tale of two unlikely friends struggling to piece together their broken pasts.

Everyone has or will face loss of life and faith. These pivotal times are part of each and everyone of our spiritual journeys. Why then do some people emerge from the crisis with their life and faith intact, while others give up on hope, a future, and their reason for living? For Landon, a young boy now burdened by the mistakes of his past, such moments have weighed heavily on his conscience. It isn't until a mysterious shape shifter named, Picaro, draws him back into his broken past, that Landon can find the means and strength to move on with his life.

The spiritual successor to Darkness Shall Bleed, Fey allows players to take control of, Landon Ferngrass and embark on a journey that will push him to his emotional, intellectual and physical limits as he tries to set his past right and discover the truth behind Oak Island and the legendary artifact of souls, the Fire Pearl.

EXCITING NEWS!

Hello!

It's been a while, but I'm back with some news that I'm excited to share. If you're a fan of anything I've produced, most recognized example being Fey (https://rpgmaker.net/games/778/), then boy oh boy do I have news for you. With the advent of RPG Maker (officially) and the ability to publish to itch.io and Steam, I've been hard at work on What's Left (link below). It is a complete re-imagining of Fey, what it was intended to be. It is important to note that this is not just an official release, but something fresh, new, and more importantly... whole. The original version of Fey was, regrettably, rushed, and over half of the game was cut due to too many reasons to list here. But as time passed, it strengthened the sense of unfinished business. That and some persistent fans and friends finally tipped the scales and I began to revise, expand and rebuild the game from the ground up. What was a couple hour experience now spans 6-8, more if you consider the new side quests, hidden areas, secrets to uncover, tools and weapons, locations, story, dialogue, the ability to purchase a house, get a citizenship, buy furniture for your home, explore chunks of open world and etc. The list goes on, and on, and on. Some more notable things are the revised combat system, the ability to use swap weapons on the fly, the new menu, introduction and branching cutscenes. What I felt was a unique game (with the aim for it to play like a movie) is now a complete experience.... Oh, and for my fans (by popular request) there is a TON more Picaro, including the ability to utilize his unique powers at will. For more information, and to keep up to date on the progress, (Steam page is under construction, along with Youtube page, itch.io, and various others) clink the link below and subscribe. You can also sneak a peak at some more videos and screenshots on my Twitter and Instagram! Make sure to follow on your preferred platform! I appreciate the support and hope you'll share my excitement as I move toward release with in the coming months!!!

I don't think I've ever been as affected by a game as with Fey.

Bravo Ashes of Emerald, you provide proof that games can be art.

Thank you. That means a lot.

This is a true masterpiece, good job Ashes, I really enjoyed this game. That zelda-style gameplay adds some extra points to this game.

Thank you, I'm deeply glad you enjoyed it. I am working on something. I don't want to say what it is just yet, but I can promise you this. It will be different, higher production value than Fey and very original.

Hi, I just noticed your media page. I'm not sure if you already know about this, but I wrote a review for Fey on Dragon Quill, if that's of interest.
Hey argh, I didn't know about that. But thanks for the heads up! I'll upload it to Fey's media page asap! :D
I liked this game as a whole, it felt more like experiencing the story than just playing a game.
I never played Uncharted (PS3) but that's how i envisioned it in my mind.
The difficulty is fair, if not too easy, the only time i had a game over was when i couldn't press Z fast enough
in a QTE due to the controller not registering hits fast enough.
That was solvable by using the keyboard instead, though.
The story was very good, more than enough to keep me hanging.
#SPOILER START#
One scene i liked especially was at the end of the Devlin camp, when the fake game over was displayed, just to cut back to the game and the hero climbing back up. Due to the whip being aquired just moments ago, i was heavily reminded of Indiana Jones (Temple of doom = the bridge / the last crusade = the implied death of the hero)
#SPOILER END#
It was also great that you kept on introducing new weapons and gadgets, they all had a unique touch to them and kept the gameplay fresh.
The Length of the game was just right, even though i could have kept playing forever.
Overall the best Action RPG RM Game i played so far. Thank you for creating and submitting it.

I hate RPG Maker because of what it has done to me

OH, THERE'S A BUG. After you get arrow'd at the end of chapter 3 and it fades out, on my first try the game froze up showing the chapter 4 title. When I pressed Enter or Z it would make the whooshing sound and show the title again but never advance past there. Although this only happened once, I reloaded and then it transitioned fine.

This happened once before to me while developing but I've never been able to recreate it... :( Thanks for the heads up!

Random thoughts

i HATE auto skipping text!

what is charlie? i assume a dog...but then how did he enter the temple? why is he not in the front hallway? why are there puzzles in a temple?
even if he could solve them they were not solved so he has a npc master key?
^learned what he is later but didn't explain that event

how did the captain survive? dont the changelings need to eat there prey and or become a parasite to take a form?
the captain should of been dead o.o

Thoughts on the game (not sure if this should be considered a review) will include spoilers

Story Warning pretty negative

this was a hit and miss for me the downsides being the gap style story telling
in which if you have a bad memory it doesn't help to go back and forth in time.
it could of all been done none shot.
and the ending.
besides going thru all that effort to survive and die in the end
(other games/storys)
going thru all that effort and then being told ...yeah its ok...your struggles were unnecessary...dam that made me upset....

well thx alot for wasting the past 4 years of your life trying to help me!
well sure i was suffering
but coming back to life is unnatural! just like a god existing! or shamens or slavery or a shape shifter or vampires or punishing someone else for a crime...yeah her reasoning is bogus she could of at least said. well yeah id be alive but my body would not be restored id be a zombie! which would still of been odd that she even knew about the fire orb but it would of been a hell of alot better then her excuse!

outside of that tho it was good

Characters

none i hated (well outside the slavers obviously)
for the most part the significant characters reasons behind there goals and values is explained in a satisfactory way.
oh and the guy blocking the red light door! dam him! ;D

Gameplay

this was a really awesome aspect of the game. having a active non turn based battle system which was simple and smooth. its mechanics did not conflict with the game or make me feel uncomfortable at all!
theres some quick time events which were a nice addition to the game
and a few other minor details like lively sprites, lockpicking, sneaking, footprints and destructible environments! :D

Overall
i highly enjoyed this title and recommend it to everyone
