An interesting twist on the background history of the original Final Fantasy! This game will feature what went down 200 years before the original Final Fantasy 1 for the NES, featuring an unexpected cast of characters otherwise known as the 'Sky Warriors' in the canon game. Witness the catastrophe of the four Fiends of Elements making their grand entrance into the Final Fantasy world, and experience the Lufenian response!

Official Trailer!

Ironed out details using canon story from both the original Final Fantasy 1, the various updates from future re-releases on more modern consoles, and even diving into the history of the Dissidia line of Final Fantasy games in a bold attempt to flesh out a very possible "what if" scenario of the Sky Warriors story.

Features!
- Rich 8-Bit NES style graphics
- Classic soundtrack used from the Wonderswan re-release of the classic Final Fantasy meshed with other popular Wonderswan titles
- Full sound effects ported from the original Final Fantasy title for NES
- Painstakingly accurate representations of the Final Fantasy 1 world in its past
- The return of several original Final Fantasy 1 classes and the entire spell list (almost.. but with bug fixes from the original NES counterpart!)

Sky Warriors v1.63

HELLO EVERYBODY!

Today I'm announcing the release of Final Fantasy: Sky Warriors version 1.63, with several updates gleaned from Hali's wonderful playthrough of the title. We have FINALLY submitted to RM2k3's ROW command. Below are the bugfixes and changes!

- Added a command to change rows to the main menu, and expanded the battle backdrop graphic to compensate for the back row. An NPC in Lufein now explains the usefulness of rows. (And no longer talks about a fictional town of Gaia)
- Updated Gouge to indicate that it now inflicts Darkness as opposed to Blind.
- Cleaned the mossy corners out of underground locations with rivers.
- Increased the accuracy of the Bane spell.
- Onrac no longer has a mysterious grassland beyond the castle to the east.
- Gave Alexanders STASIS ability the nerf bat.
- Fixed several sprite errors.
- Fixed several grammatical and spelling errors.
- Buffed the damage and accuracy of all of Bikke's abilities.
- (Hopefully) Fixed an error involving riding the airship out of Lufein for the first time.

Have fun powering those crystal ORBS!

Disregard this post, I was not aware that the Dragon horde battles actually moved the story along.

It wasn't apparent at first.

However I did find one minor, but beneficial bug. If you enter Titan's Throne room, and back out the door will remain open but the room up above will remain open too and thus bypassing that Giant asking for way too much gil. hehe
Wow, I've only played this briefly so far, but I'm really impressed already! I was kinda expecting "just another FF fangame", but this one reeks of quality from the first minutes. Really nice surprise of seeing Oceans dream's art in there too. Gotta continue now..

Thanks! I hope you enjoy it!
Wow, fantastic game! I just finished it. It stayed true to the spirit of FF1, though it wasn't quite as difficult.

I noticed that the enemies never got to strike first. In fact, even in normal battles, all my characters always got to act before the enemy, making running from battles much, much, easier than in classic FF1.

I never found the masamune - did I miss it or was it not in the game?

I'm not sure if you're looking for feedback/bug reports, but I found these issues:
  • the water floor in the dwarven mine dungeon has no random battles

  • the water floor in the Temple of Fiends has no random battles

  • slow and slow 2 seem to have exactly the same description and effect. Perhaps slow 2 has a higher chance of working, but this wasn't clear

  • the heal staff was usable outside of battle, which felt broken. (so was the defend sword)

  • the darkness status didn't seem to lower my chance to hit. (Maybe this was a subtle nod to the original FF1's meaningless darkness status)

  • on the status screen it lists "nickname" as lufenian, human, or elf

  • the exit spell sometimes returns me to the overworld in a canoe, which cannot move because there is no river nearby. This happened when exitting Bahamut's lair and the dwarven mine dungeon. I found I was able to use a tent, save, quit, then re-load and I was no longer a canoe

  • you forgot to include cockatrices to turn my entire party to stone and geists to stun-lock my entire party and force me to restart, losing hours of progress. :)

Wow, fantastic game!

Thanks for the support! If you really enjoyed it you are more than welcome to leave a review!
As for your feedback, I can go into detail.
- As your characters level and get more and more stats, eventually your ATB speed will far outmatch other enemies. RM2k3, sadly. I would have done it more turn based like the original, but unfortunately if you make everyones speed the same then attack animations kind of run together real quick and look very meh.
- Masamune is in the game, you need to explore towns a bit more once you get near the end of the game~
- Holy crap you're right, I've added encounters to these floors and will be updating the patch accordingly. I also pinched off a few pathways in the ToF water dungeon so it wasn't super short if you go one specific way. (There shouldn't be any random encounters on the wind floor of the Black Cave)
- SLOW hits all enemies, but SLOW 2 hits only one with a 40% higher success rate.
- Heal Staff and Defense Sword: Sadly, another RM2k3 limitation. I can't have use items not be usable outside of battle - this is why you don't find any HEAL Helmets in the game, and the Staff shows up late. Enjoy the perk!
- Darkness: Hm, lucky I guess! The debuff cuts accuracy in half.
- Nicknames: RM2k3, sadly. I have no way of changing that text in the status screen.
- Exit canoe: Ahh, I finally found it. Apparently leaving the Earth Falls via bubble in the final room wasn't triggering a switch that was in place to make sure EXIT was taking you to the surface in a canoe (which would be necessary when using EXIT in the Earth Falls). It should be working now. If reloading a previous save, just enter and exit the Earth Falls and EXIT should work properly.
- STONE status: I wanted this in so badly, but sadly the limitations of RM2k3 prevent such a diverse status from working properly. Since it was either include a botched version of STONE or not, I opted to not include the two enemies in the game that petrify (the other being Medusa). Hmm, GEISTS are in the game, but it looks like I've got them restricted to the trigger encounter in the Ice Cave. Enjoy!
I have two exes, RPG_RT and RPG_RT_original, and a RPG_RT.exe.old, and a Final_Fantasy__Sky_Warriors.r3proj.

I'm sorry, I can't seem to replicate the problem with either the ship or the canoe. Can you go into more detail? I'm also not sure what you mean by flying over the cities side by side.

Also, make sure you're running the most recent version!

I thank you for the work of making the game. In this print screen we see the canoe "sailing" through the mountains.

And if I enter a cave, when I leave, I walk over the mountains

This is very unusual! I loaded it up and tried to recreate the problem with multiple rivers and caves and couldn't seem to get it to happen... Are you SURE you're running the most recent version (V1.6)? The patch was posted two months ago, and if you got it from itch.io it should be the most up to date version. I've had problems with the canoe in the past, but I really thought I'd solved them by this point.

I thought that maybe the game was not finished, due to these three files: Final_Fantasy__Sky_Warriors.r3proj, RPG_RT.exe.old and RPG_RT_original.exe

Yes it is (V1.6)

I have Win 10
I'll have to replay the game through to try to replicate this error so I can find it then. Til then all I can recommend is avoiding mountains? :p Thanks for pointing it out, I will see if I can locate the problem, but it may take some time.

I can only thank you. I like RPG and RPGMaker. I like Final Fantasy, and I would like to play this game. Thank you for your work.
That would be fantastic Final Fantasy prequel and It's my favorite game FF I played the first one, story was outstanding :)

I just added 4 secret new dungeons and Overworld locked caves to this game and a new village Gaia mentioned in the game story-line but never built, it has now been built, but is under construction in the story. I did this because i liked this game so much.*

4 new powerful bosses and difficulty raised plus some seed items.

I have not fully played the game but I need others to test out this latest version.

Some of the areas were expanded such as the Pirate hideout cave and other things, there are even new items to help out the player with greatly increased difficulty.

Original Nes maps were pretty much not touched except for the new maps only.

And the 'boss defeated' action is expanded upon to act a lot more dramatic like later FF games.

Try it out, tell me what you think of this new version.

Hey, this is pretty cool! Glad you enjoyed the game so much to make an expanded difficulty version! And yeah, Gaia was never built as in the story the npc's involved were supposedly 'on the way' towards building the location at the conclusion of the story.

The only thing I noticed was that your start location is in the middle of the Pirate Cove~ an easy fix, though! A lot of interesting changes, too!
This is about as high as praise gets :O Nice work, snek!
