Vampires are creatures that live amidst the darkness of eternal night. They have absolutely no regard for human lives and treat them like stones to be kicked away.

One night, a girl was running in a forest while being chased by three bandits. Then a black-clothed man passed by and subsequently took them down easily. The girl, who thought she was saved by him, wanted to repay him and thus invited him to her village.

......The man, who was actually a vampire, smiled and accepted her invitation. After all, the more prey, the merrier......

Nocturne: Rebirth (月夜に響くノクターン Rebirth) is a popular 10 to 20-hour (story-wise) dark fantasy JRPG originally created using RPG Maker XP in 2009 by Shou (or Cogwheel) and translated into English by me, eplipswich. It is actually the remake of the game Nocturne created using RPG Maker 2000 way back in 2002. The differences between the two include new graphics and a new battle system, with only the story virtually unchanged. This version serves as the English version of Nocturne: Rebirth. It is also my second game translation after Seraphic Blue.

Nocturne: Rebirth is notable for
- A highly original ATB battle system
- Touch-based enemy encounters
- Slick battle animations
- A highly versatile character levelling system via skill upgrades
- Unique Familiar Summon System
- Almost 100% custom graphics
- Characters that players can sympathize with
- Unique soundtracks
and so much more!

Latest Blog

Blog 18: Boy, has it been a while. 10,000 downloads and what's been going on

Well, first of all, this is late, but better late than never. Nocturne Rebirth has officially become one of the big boys of 10k downloads, so congrats on that!

So if you've been wondering what has been going on, I'm still translating the visual novel called Aiyoku no Eustia, so once again, if you're interested in that, you can check it out at https://forums.fuwanovel.net/topic/16982-aiyoku-no-eustia-translation-project-partial-patch-is-out/

Then what about the RPG Maker scene? Remember what I said before about the game Hat World/Hatalonia at http://rpgex.sakura.ne.jp/littleworld/? Well, a revamp of it just got released about 7 months ago, with the latest version just released last month! I'm currently playing it, and I'm really enjoying it! Truly, I feel this game deserves to be translated. But I will only most likely embark on translating this game after I'm done playing it and I'm substantially done with translating Aiyoku no Eustia, so it'll be a long wait. Hopefully you'll see a game page of Hatalonia here next year! So do look forward to it.

So yep, that's really it from me for now. Till next time!

looks good, will give it a try
I've beaten this game recently in japanese, now being able to play this in English will be great!

Keep up the awesome work there man!

(Definitely will be doing videos of this once finished.)

Although I do have a question, in that one room that's underneath Khaos' desk where you'll encounter a wizard like enemy, he'll spam magic that's incredibly overkill, is there anyway I can survive that nonsense!?

Also, have you fully played the original Nocturne on rm2k? I tried, but I think I downloaded the game wrong or something, because it wouldn't run the game. :P
Ah, for that wizard,

if I remember correctly, I manage to defeat him while equipping Reviel with all the Phoenix Feathers that I have (the one with the red feather icons). So even if I die, I will automatically be resurrected. Then I just spam my strongest attacks and defeated him before my Phoenix Feathers ran out. I think I used up 2 Phoenix Feathers? It also helps to equip items that boost your elemental defenses to the max (depending on the attacks used), but I don't remember trying that haha

For the original Nocturne game, hmm, I haven't tried it out yet, but could it be missing RTP? I'll try downloading it and installing it when I get back home soon.
Ahh, I did have a decent supply of the Pheonix Feathers, I should've used those, ha ha.

Yeah, I want to get passed that so I can access the director's room and fight the one optional battle against those 3 girls, which I believe is the hardest optional boss battle in the game.

And speaking of those girls, I think they were fightable outside of the director's room, but that one is still in investigation as I only saw one of the three girls being fightable, or it may have been added by someone that wasn't cogwheel.

I think it may have been an rtp issue. But I also think that the original was using different named original rtp sprites as well, because I found all the non-original rtp in the game, but not any of the default stuff. I think that may have had a hand in not being able to play it.
Oh yay, I don't have to do it anymore. I'm glad you picked it up :D
I remember playing blindly through the Japanese version of this, but I gave up since I could not understand the story. Now I'm excited for this translation.

Also, I discovered the game in the first place through an indie fighting game called "E's Laf", which has Reviel as one of its fighters. If you like anime fighters like Guilty Gear or Blazblue, then that game is worth a look.
I played and beat this blind a few years ago. It's one of my all time favorite RM games, and RPGs in general. Being able to understand it will be a blessing for sure. Thanks for taking this up!
There is one little thing about the game that does somewhat bother me, it's the looping of certain themes... specifically the boss themes. I don't know what cogwheel did with looping some of these themes, but I don't think they were looped... very well.

Is RMXP unable to play .ogg files? Because if it is allowed I would suggest fine tuning some of the themes that are played just so they're looping correctly, hell, I'd be more than happy to try it for myself and put it in the game for you. :D

But hey, that's your call on that.

Nice find! I'll be sure to try this game out! In fact, three other fighters from E's Laf are in Nocturne: Rebirth as special optional bosses. Which three, though? I think you probably know. If not, I'll just let you figure it out :p

It's too bad the game from which those three fighters are in is no longer available for download :( (I couldn't find that game anywhere)

Oh, RMXP can play .ogg files. I'm not experienced with sound files, but do .ogg files loop better than .mp3 files? If so, how does it work?

In any case, the strange thing that I find about the playing of the tracks is that all the tracks are actually run using the script. Cogwheel assigned the music to all the empty music files (the Battle_01, Dungeon_01, Event_01 etc files) and used the script to assign those files to the individual music files. So if you want to test it out, you'll have to edit the script.

I could still probably use your help on doing the looping, though :p Then I will help to put the newly looped music files into the game and then see if they run smoothly.

EDIT: I just tried running the original Nocturne game, and it works. You probably downloaded the wrong version? This is the correct version: http://www.vector.co.jp/soft/dl/win95/game/se264952.html

This game uses so much fancy japanese I can't fully understand everything ahaha.
XP should be able to play ogg files, but XP doesn't support ogg streaming (takes longer to load for long songs) or loop points (can't use loop tags) like VX and Ace.
Yeah, I recently learned how to loop tracks into .ogg files. If you want I'll take one of the battle themes and give you a sample of how it works, that way we may not need the one script that makes the loops in certain themes all wrong in stuff.

I'll loop the first boss theme that plays and get your input on it, I'll deliver it to you later on, I'll send you a PM or something.

The process is actually really easy to make into .ogg files. I found a tutorial on how to make theme's loop, not like the old fashioned way some of us used to do it with certain themes. A good example would be to check out Hat World's music files as they are all .ogg files, they were probably made using Audacity to make them into .ogg files.

I am pretty much going to do the same thing, anyway, enough of me talking, I'll get started and get your input on it.

EDIT: I just tried running it and it gave me an error in words I do not understand. Out of curiosity, do you you have RPG Tsukuru 2000? Not the pirated version? The original version?

@Rhyme If that's true, then we can test this theory out regardless. It'd be great if we can get these themes to loop correctly, if we can't then oh well.

EDIT2: Damn, I played it normally on xp and as you mentioned, it doesn't work, is there a script or something that would enable it to loop like it could do in VX and VX Ace?

Oh, I don't have the original RPG Tsukuru 2000. But I do have the original Japanese RTP. Maybe that's what you should have? You'll need the Japanese RTP, not the English RTP. For convenience, here's the link to the Japanese RTP: http://www.mediafire.com/download/26fg67a063idyhw/RTP.rar You can just extract the files into the Nocturne game itself. Or if that doesn't work, try this: http://tkool.jp/support/download/rpg2000/rtp

Also, I'll test out the .ogg you sent me and get back to you on this.

EDIT: Oh, btw, this is how the script looks like for the mp3 loop:

when "Battle_03_死の輪舞曲"
type = "Battle"
name = "Audio/BGM/Rengoku/oukasiro.mp3"
start = 440
loop = 14620
fin = 219844

Maybe I should toy around with the settings (or maybe not since I'm not very experienced with this)? But I believe the loop number is the key to a smoother loop (I think). Either way, I believe that 1 second = 1000. That means the song will end at around 220 seconds before looping at 14.62 seconds.
Okay, the full length of the song on Audacity is 10,858, 752

I started the loop at 651035 and the length of the loop would be 9702979.

Try it with that setting in mind with the numbers.

This script is very confusing. X_X;

Well, maybe you can tell me the exact times and then I'll work them out from there. Because I don't think the numbers you mentioned are the correct numbers for the script. And I think I'm not wrong when I say that 1 second = 1000. Because I tested it out, and it does make sense.

Btw, 219844 = 219.844 seconds = roughly 220 seconds = 3:40 and 14620 = 14.62 seconds = roughly between 0:14 and 0:15. That means when the music reaches 3:40, it will loop back to between 0:14 and 0:15 and begin playing again.

That being said, it doesn't seem all that different from the .ogg file that you sent me ~ ~
Test the ogg file on vx/vx ace and compare. You may notice the difference there. But iono, if you'd rather just keep it the way it is, then that's fine.

Yeah, I even did the comparison on a regular player and it all checks out the way you showed as well. Iono. All this is starting to make my head hurt. X_x;

Also, downloaded that file with the jp rtp, and it works fine. So I'm going to try out the original Nocturne now! :D
Ahaha...I tried changing .mp3 link in the script to .ogg, but it doesn't play for some reason...Guess we'll need another script for it to work, after all.
Oh well, it was worth a shot. I'll look around and see if there is anything that can solve that problem, but until then, good luck with the project. :D
Yes, yes, yes, yes. Now I can actually play this game without having to change my region settings.
On a unrelated note, have you been checking up on Hat World lately? Looks to be a couple new worlds to explore this time! :D
