Let me pirate this game

General Words:

Lasting Dreams is a 3 years old side-scrolling game from Infinite that, as described in the Game Profile, has received strong inspiration from older Zelda games. It was developed with the RPG Maker 2003. Unfortunately, I found this game just now, otherwise I would probably have played it much earlier and most likely reviewed it much earlier. One thing in advance: The game is a true gameplay bomb that is second to none. You play a pirate (a figure from the 2003-RTP) who, with the help of a fellow guy, breaks out of the prison in which he was locked in. From now on, you find yourself in a world that simply couldn’t be more interactive. I like the concept that you can have two hands for two different types of weapons: one hand for standard weapons and one hand for melee weapons. The controls are simple: as the player you can adjust them as you feel like, which I think is brilliant. I chose the keys 1 (standard weapon), 2 (melee weapon) and 3 (equipment menu), which is most comfortable for me.

Graphics:

The complete graphics of the standard RTP have been adapted to suit a side-scrolling game. Many custom backgrounds have been used that blend well with the RTP. I've never seen anything like that before. If there was a way to make such a game, I would most likely do it the same way. There’s a graphic display for the HP and MP, as well as a specially designed weapon menu that has been kept in the style of standard RTP to match the graphical style. The menu shows the main character and which weapon he currently has equipped to which hand, and that's really nice. Here you can also see trophies as well that you have already collected for whatever reason. The graphic is useful and nice to look at. I like it so far.

Gameplay:

The gameplay offers a lot of variety. The character can learn many different skills so as:

● throwing out fireballs,
● turning enemies into chickens (lmao, I like that),
● turning yourself into a skeleton,
● throwing knives,
● shooting with crossbows.

You’ll have melee and ranged weapons and they’re well-evented. Gosh, you have so many options in this game that it would be nonsensical to list them all completely. Feeling every 2 minutes you get a new weapon or a new ability that you can immediately use in a new area. New areas are marked on the world map and reach them by Airship. On the World Map, there are enemies (birds or something) who will attack you at Event Touch and you can hunt them down by Airship cannon. The gameplay here is very fair designed because the birds don’t move their birdy butts until you have decided to start flying with the Airship by pressing some button. You receive a very early Airship ability to increase your vehicle's acceleration so you can avoid annoying birdos from attacking you. Sadly, the ship can be easily hijacked by enemy’s Airships, which is a bit annoying at the beginning, because at this point you don’t have the ability to do anything against the crew on board and they’ll roll you down. But that's half as bad, because there's no Game Over, as you're immediately teleported to the last checkpoint you started from. It doesn’t matter if you lose in this Game and it saves you from a lot of frustration. (There’s also a computer game that you can play in a very specific town. A game in the game, so to speak. Personally, I would advise against it, because it’s very laggy and you can’t leave the game as far as I could tell.)

Summary:

If there was a way to make such a game, I would most likely do it the same way. I had a lot of fun with this game. This is definitely worth 4.5 stars. I hope that someday we will see more such games on rmn.

I found this part funny to read:
"with the help of a fellow prisoner, breaks out of the prison in which he was imprisoned".

So I replaced some things with bananas.
"with the help of a fellow banana, breaks out of the banana in which he was banana'd".

I also don't know why put the story section if you're just going to refrain to talk about it xD. Also what is a local weapon?

Other than that, nice review. :^D

(Birdy butts)
@orochii: I fixed these issues. Thanks a lot.
