Legionwood: Mysteries of Dynastland DLC now available!

Wow, talk about not meeting deadlines, right? Some of you might remember that I annouced a Legionwood expansion pack, way back in late 2010. Although it ultimately ended up being cancelled due to hard drive failure, I managed to recover some of its assets a few months ago and, rather than doing the logical lazy thing and recycling them for Legionwood 2, I decided to piece them together and release the resulting mess.

So then, this is the Legionwood expansion I promised all those years ago but never actually delivered? Well, not really. But it's still a pretty cool addition to the Legionwood world.

Legionwood: Mysteries of Dynastland is an expansion pack/DLC for Legionwood: Tale of the Two Swords. Featuring a huge new story dungeon set in the midst of the game's chaotic fourth act, as well as a considerable number of all new optional endgame quests, a revised final dungeon and over a dozen new Techs to learn, it expands the original game's playtime by at least three hours and adds several long awaited features to game, including a graphical world map and quest journal.

The main addition in Mysteries of Dynastland is the titular Dynastland dungeon, which takes place between the Sealed Library and Lost City Crebt areas in Chapter 4. This sprawling dungeon crawl is filled with new enemies, puzzles and challenges to test your skills against, and also reveals the never-before-seen backstory of Zanthus and his long lost homeland as your party searches for the mythical Purity Crystal, an ancient Precursor artifact rumoured to be able to manipulate time itself.

Other notable additions to the game include 12 brand new Techs, including unique Techs exclusive to certain characters, a new set of powerful Dynastland equipment, a late-game "scavenger hunt" quest that will take you to the furthest corners of the world, a complete overhaul and rebalancing of all late game content and an expanded final dungeon with a new, harder version of Castoth to fight -- in both the normal and "true" varieties. Overall, it pretty much turns the final act of Legionwood into a completely new game, which was one of my main goals as I was always rather unhappy with how rushed that part of the game turned out.

Anyway, if you're itching for some new adventures, you can grab the DLC here. Simply point the installer to your Legionwood directory and extract, overwriting files when prompted. In order to experience the new content at the appropriate difficulty level, I recommend either starting a new game or loading a game that was saved before the Sealed Library, though most of the new content except for the Quest Journal can still be accessed otherwise.

Check out these screenshots to see some of the new locations in the game:

And with that, I'm off to work on Legionwood 2 again. Happy adventuring! :)

Hi everyone! I've been rather busy with Legionwood 2 among other things lately, so I haven't had much time to respond to questions. I hope these answers help:

@Aurora: Earlier versions of the DLC had that error. It was happening because the Tech Store had too many Techs listed. I think I fixed it in an un-announced update. Try re-downloading and reinstalling the DLC (or, if that doesn't work, port your save to the base game, purchase Techs, then reinstall the DLC).

@Netherworld: Yes, you can still beat the superboss. The only requirement is collecting the five Pins of Creation. The zolom cave quest doesn't provide one of those, so it's safe to miss.

@jason: Check the "Statistical Survey" item. There are also some character builds listed on this game page.

I re-installed the DLC and error message disappeared. Thanks for the fix.

Out of curiosity, did the you update the full download or just the DLC download?
I updated the DLC. The Tech store in the base game was already working correctly :)
The reason it was happening is because the DLC adds new Techs to that store that weren't originally there.
Thanks for clarifying Dark Gaia.

I just noticed that Legionwood Tale of Two swords was selected for the RPG Maker Free Game Bundle #1.

Legionwood Tale of Swords is actually how I found this site. I came across the game on Moddb.com and eventually found my way here. I have played a number of RPGs from this site since then. Legionwood Tale of Two Swords remains one of my favorites.
How many Miracle Lutes are there in the game?
Umm... I'm not too sure, actually. It's been far too long since I did a test-run. I'd estimate about four though, at the max. In Legionwood 2, there are three of them and LW1 would have a similar amount too.

Thanks for the quick response Dark Gaia. I ended up having to use one against the Tree Monster outside the cave on the way to Greenvale I forget its name. I didn't want use it and have used up the only one in the game.

This is my second time playing through the game and I don't remember that boss being so difficult last time.
Just spent 2 hours on the lich battle he has stopped attacking me now but just wont die pretty peed off as i was recording it aswell as part of my playthrough on my yt channel

The lich simply doesn't die when his hp reaches zero. You should be familiar with that mechanic by now from the hopeless boss battles earlier in the game. He stopped attacking because he ran out of mp and has no basic attack command.

In this case, he cannot die because he is a lich and has undergone a process to become immortal. In order to kill the lich, you must
find his phylactery in the locked chest earlier in that zone and destroy before the fight.

In an ideal world, it would be possible to run from the lich and make the necessary preparation before fighting him again. However, I imagine there could be difficulties getting the events to handle that.

My final save has 5, and I think I might have used one against the bonus boss. So 5 or 6 total.
Guys, he's a Lich. You need to find the Phylactery in which he stores his soul (as he specifies in his diary) in a chest and then destroy it. He'll be immortal until you do so :)

Thanks for the information on the Miracle Lutes Tirear.
I feel a bit... Incompetent asking this, but... How do I get pas the hydra? I can't heal my SP and by the time I get there everyone is out and I'm about out of Salves.
Do any of your characters know Healing Light? That will substitute for Salves.
Yeah, but like I said, they all run out of SP by the time we get there, and going back to the crystal isn't wise because I'd still fight my way up

Nothing reveals Humanity so well as the games it plays. A game of betrayal, where the most suspicious person is brutally murdered? How savage.

Maybe you should try grinding next to the crystal. That usually helps.
I've been loving the game, but seem to be stuck. I have the sword of Lore, and have it equipped, but I still can't get into Gaia's cavern. Any ideas?

edit:
Never mind. Apparently I didn't have the final version. I downloaded that and moved the save file over, and it works just fine now.
After getting your own ship to navigate the world map, you're supposed to go south to Demon Castle Isle to exchange Ark for Liara. You can immediately go to Greenvale however and continue the story from there.

I encountered the same issue myself. You can buy weapons and armor from Greenvale just don't speak to anyone who would advance the story.
Wow, it really took 5 years for someone to discover that? I'd better update it and make sure Greenvale's off limits until the rest of Chapter 3 has been completed.

I could've sworn I'd made it so there's a guard at Peregrin Canyon if you haven't completed Chapter 3 though. Is there some other way to get to Greenvale on the world map that I've overlooked (ie. sailing around the back of the continent)?
