A neat game to spend time with

My playtime: 25h+
Actually this is my second playthrough after i was forced to redo this game because of the broken script i received due to downloading this game from external source (i mean this one), so it actually can be way longer.

Intro
Legionwood is a game about siblings which ended up to have to save the world after wanting to buy an apple. It actually doesn't scale from 0 to 100 that quick, but it just happens.

Story
Legionwood's story is thought well, but sadly it's not presented perfectly. The main story is guessable right from the start, although there might be some twist in the details. The thing that i hate the most is how the characters keep on saying the same things just to make the dialogue looks longer.

Some dialogues have delay between pronounciation which makes it really time consuming. I love to talk to everything, including gravestones and animals, if possible, and i don't want to wait that long just to read something like.. "A gravestone." and longer just for the other text to show up.

Going back to the main story, the main characters dialogue are not presented well, and although i can see some effort in making the dialogue longer in the beginning. However, in the near-end of the game, the story is somewhat "lazy-made". Basically, it's just following the main concept about the hero that wants to save the world without any spice to it.

Music
I have to say that the music that was made (or choosen, if it's not made) is very good, especially the last boss theme. I really enjoyed all the music, although the only complaint i have is the bustling sound in the city (especially in Hawkshire), which is too loud.

Graphics
Most of the graphics are using RTP, so i can't really say much. There are a lot of monsters in this game (153 monsters according to the Beast Book, a monster dictionary) with some of them are recolored. The bonus boss (Rift Entity) is somewhat ridiculous though, because it looks like a googled jpg image which was cleaned with magic wand once.

There are some cutscenes in the game, which is quite impressive. However, i think some of them are quite stiff. Especially Liara (the girl with the red clothing) in this image.

Dungeons
The dungeons in this game is designed poorly. In early dungeons, the dungeons can't even be called dungeons. It's basically just "rooms that connects with each others with treasure box in every room". In the late dungeons (especially in the Memories of Dynastland DLC), it's basically just "going to left and right to activate the switch".

Mappings
I actually never want to say anything about mappings and the like because i don't really understand the basics. However, some mapping in this game is quite unpleasant. Take a look at this image for an example.

Now i have to wait for a minute or so until she gets out from that spot.

In the first town, most of the objects are separated just by one tile, which makes it hard to pass through when someone is in the said tile. The NPC movement is also make it hard to pass through the areas because they tend to go in there.

Besides those issues, there are some position which is quite annoying and there are some collision error (or whatever you called it). Here's some that i found:

Besides all those issues, most of the hidden items are sparkling, which is great because you don't really have to spam Z to everything that you see just to get an item.

Battle
The reason i was separating dungeons from battle is because.. I have lots to comment about battle.

This game is using your usual turn based battle with random encounter. You can assign your stats freely and the great thing is, you can always reset your stats for free. What i like the most from this stat is that you can assign your stats for threat, which makes it possible to make a tanker, although it's not really needed in late-game.

The battle is heavily relied on skills, which made this game is quite difficult at the start, and surprisingly very easy in the end. At my first playthrough, i have to be careful to not spending my SP (MP in some games) too much so that i won't run out of it. However, in my second playthrough, because i know the poorly designed dungeons and the healing crystal location, i just need to rush there and come to that place whenever i need it.

The other reason that this game is quite difficult at the start is because when your character die, it has a Coma status, which can't be recovered after battle. The dead characters either must be cured at the church, healing crystal, or casted a spell called Reviving Light to be revived.

This part is quite long so i am thinking of giving an image to make it feel better. Besides, i like Lann's battle pose.

In case you still don't get it, you will be able to learn SP drain and "reviving" skill (the one that lifted Coma status) later on. The best part of this game is, everyone can learn most of the skills if you just have the money. This also what makes the game easy in the end. The bosses have a limited MP which can be drained. When the bosses run out of SP, they will cast a spell to recover SP. The catch is, you just have to have one person draining the boss MP and let the others do the attacking. You won't risk on getting hit by the bosses and beat the bosses safely. Surprisingly, this also works on final boss. However, i have to admit that boss battle is taking way too long and it can be boring because you just have to hit using the same skills over and over.

The other thing that i like about this game is the fact that you can heal yourself although you are not a healer. There is a HP and SP drain skill which is both pyhsical and magical based. You can either set your party full of attacker, magician, or combination of both.

There are 6 playable characters in your party, although you can only keep five at once. The last two joined near end of the game though, so you don't really have to switch often in the beginning. However, i have to complain that the party switching mechanism isn't good at all. First, you have to choose whether you want to keep or change your party member, and then select between male and female, and then the name. I tend to get unpatient with the delay between selection, so i tend to mash the Z button and.. i ended up to have to redo it again because i accidentally clicked the option to change party member at the start.

Besides the playable characters, there are 5 summons in this game, which will take your fifth party slot. However, unlike other playable characters, the summon needs to be summoned using an item in the battle, can only be summoned once per battle, and has a low attack. However, they have high HP and can level up very fast. They also have their own different characteristics, such as Fenrir which has a skill to lower Atk and Def, Incubus which can inflict special status effects, etc. They can be a good addition if you are looking for their specials.

I also like on how all of your characters can learn passives. Although one can be learned with money, the rest are free. What i like the most is the fact that i can learn on how to dual wield for all of my characters. However, after learning that, i can't revert back to using shield or gloves, which makes me regret it at the start because i quickly make sure that all of my party member learned it once i can learn it (in the end, i am glad to do so though).

Speaking about party member, although it's stated that you can only have four members in the party, you actually can select up to five members (except for the final battle) with the downside of not being able to summon. However, the fifth party member's HP, SP, and status is not shown, which can be a bit troublesome.

Quests
Besides main quest, there is an optional quest, or side quest. Although there is a marking on the person giving the quest, sometimes, it's hard to figure out on what the person need (i am talking about the map quest). It's actually recorded on the Quest Book, however, being it so far in the item section, it's quite hard to reach and tend to be forgotten. It would be better if the book is placed on the main menu.

Bug
While we are in this section, i would like to point out a bug(?) that happens when i am playing. I'm not really sure if it's intended or not, so just forget about it if i am wrong. Beware of spoilers.

You can trigger the cutscene in Makir (about getting permission to the first forge) after you are getting a ship and haven't do the exchange with Castoth.

But.. I haven't get her back..

When you haven't do the exchange and you change party member, selecting Ark, then unselecting, and selecting him again, you will get a message "This party member is not available at the moment" and the screen will turn black. You still can do anything (walking, reassigning party members, and the like), it's just the screen which turns black. It'll come back once you reassigning the party members.

I like this scene so i'll just put it here.

Pros:
- Status can be freely allocated
- All techniques can be "bought"(learned) with money
- Summons
- 6 playable party members

Cons:
- Tedious and long boss battles
- Poorly designed dungeons
- Bad mappings (you can get "trapped" easily and have to wait for minutes in order to get out)

PS: I don't think the images will be very big and can't be resized. Maybe i should resize it in the future as soon as i took it.
