Another Year, Another Progress Report

Wow. Two years since the game's first announcement.

So where am I right now? Well, there are a planned total of 5 chapters, not including the prologue. Each one, with the exception of the last chapter, has an Aeyr half and a Mia half. Since everything up to Mia 2 has been completed, I'd say that roughly 50% of the game is playable. So yay! However, development is looking to speed up from here, as the biggest chunk of work left is, to the shock of no one who knows how I work, the level design.

Thankfully, with summer here, development has been my primary focus. Because of this, progress has been massive this last month, and it's looking to keep the pace for this month. I won't lie: I'm a little bit behind schedule. School ended up taking more of my time than I anticipated. All the more reason for me to buckle down and make the most out of the summer as I can.

The battle system is more of less done, bar some skills. There are a lot of areas in the artistic side that need work, like animations and character busts, but I'm chipping away at them little by little.

We're making good progress on music as well. Every character has their own theme, and you've heard the first three of them already. There are a few tracks that I'm waiting on, but we're hoping to be done with them soon.

The next demo should be coming up within the next month or so. With Mia 2 done, all the material that may go into the demo is ready. I'm going to run through everything one last time, then I'll be ready to send the build off to playtesters. Once testing is done, I'll put together a demo that takes players through a little bit of each character's campaign, not just the prologue. It's high time you all had something new playable, anyway.

As for a final release, I'm aiming to have the game finished by Winter 2017/Spring 2018. As I get closer to the finish line, I'll have a hard date set. Thanks for reading!

All in all, this isn't going that slow considering the size of it all! I mean, I've been working on the new and improved Cope Island since October 2014...Not far from 3 years now.

All I can say is keep up the good work. You know I'll be all over this once this is complete! Usually I have a good grasp of where games are going, but I can honestly say this one is one of them where I honestly have no idea where it is going and that is pretty exciting.

Be careful not to go remake the first half of the game again! As I'm sure it will be tempting at times, don't listen to any self doubts. Just go forward.

Thanks, zDS! Man, life just loved to get in the way, doesn't it? Still hoping for the day cloning technology becomes widespread so I can have a slave to do all the boring stuff for me.

I thought this was what I was built for.
I mean, uh, what?

I'll have to admit that aiming to finish the game within about half a year does seem very ambitious to me. Not that I'm doubting your abilities, just try not to overexert yourself too much, okay?

Either way, I too am looking forward to seeing all the new content you've created and will create in the future. Keep up the good work!

That was my plan around Winter 2016. I had a schedule of milestones to reach in order to achieve that goal. Unfortunately, like I said in the blog, school took more of my time than I had anticipated, so I couldn't make the milestones I had set. I'm not behind by a LOT, but enough to mention it here.

If I crunched, I'm sure I could make it, but I'd rather delay development and deliver a better game than sacrifice quality to rush it out the door.

Either way, I too am looking forward to seeing all the new content you've created and will create in the future. Keep up the good work!

Thanks! I will!

More specifically, crafting good looking environments. When I set my mind to it, I can design levels, but making them look good is an uphill battle for me. I'm getting better as development goes along, so I expect this issue will diminish over time.
