That hug looks slick. Nice art too.
Woah, did I implement a hug attack and forgot about it? Neat!
I know what you meant. Thanks!

Well, going by your avatar...
But yes, I agree that this art looks pretty good, although those portraits and especially the bust on the right-hand side would probably be floating around a bit less awkwardly if there was some kind of box or background around them. At least, that's what I think.
Also, Aeyr's unnaturally huge grin still creeps me out a little.

I thought about putting the bottom portraits behind a window, but decided against it for a similar reason the large portraits aren't: to remove obstructions and give players a better view of the battlefield. I'll play around with a windowskin at the bottom at least, since the large portraits are called from a completely separate script and are much harder to just add in.
I actually don't think it's necessary. Perhaps just a dim to make it pop but honestly, I see no need.
You probably shouldn't take my word for it, then. It's not like I can claim a lot of expertise on aesthetics besides my subjective and probably not very well-informed ideas.
I actually hadn't noticed what you wrote before I replied or else i'd have articulated myself better lol >_> while I can see there being perhaps a wish to make it pop, I think it looks clear enough like that. It kind of reminds me of Star Ocean 3, in fact, and goes well with the background. But heyyyyyy I don't have a lot of expertise on aesthetics either and I don't even have a finished game loll

Thinking about it now, perhaps this isn't such a good idea. If the party were to battle on a lighter background (like say, a snowfield), that'd make reading the numbers pretty straining.
The Luna Engine allows me to put a custom background picture on just the gauges, so I'll play around with that when I get back to work on the UIs.

orrrrrrrrrr just a dimmed background like the transparent message background or the stuffs craze loves to do (and I do too)
edit: talking about craze it's been a while since i've last read his name...
edit2: so he's on a 9 week trip.
