Mia, among the other refugees from her destroyed village

So now it finally is Prayer of the Refugee?

You weren't exaggerating when you said a lot has changed since the last release! This looks very different form what I remember. The expressions on the characters' faces in some of these new screenshots look rather extreme to me, but it might just be that the situations they find themselves in are indeed extreme.

I do wonder what is happening with the back of Mia's head, though, specifically the lower and upper left part of her hair. Why are there what seems like gaps between portions of her hair?

HOW DID I NOT SEE THAT UNTIL NOW?!

It's a relief to hear that the differences are noticible! It makes the last three months absolutely worth it. Regarding the expressions, I see what you mean. I originally wanted to draw entirely new poses for each character bust, but then decided against it with the reasoning being I actually want to finish this game within my lifetime. To compensate, the expressions had to carry the extra weight of each character's personality traits, quirks, etc.

I do wonder what is happening with the back of Mia's head, though, specifically the lower and upper left part of her hair. Why are there what seems like gaps between portions of her hair?

The lower left part of her hair is just the individual hanging locks. The upper portion is the fullness of her bangs puffing out just slightly. Does it look unnatural? If so, I can take some time to adjust it while the testers demo is out.
I too think it looks a bit unnatural (her hair). Maybe you could make the transition a bit more subtle.

What I am talking about specifically is this:

Insid the upper red circle I drew, there is this effect that to me looks like a gap or dent in her hair. The line that I marked with the red oval on the lower left side creates the impression that these are two separate hair parts with some distance between them. As a whole, this causes me to see the portrait as if the back part of Amalie's head has another clone of itself attached to it.
It's very possible this is just me having no idea what I'm talking about since I know nothing about drawing or realistic anatomy, and also can't express what I mean very well. And it happens to me from time to time that I see completely different things in pictures than what is actually intended to be there. But hopefully you can at least sort of understand why what I'm seeing looks weird to me.

This look is quite common in anime style, tho:

Though the roundness in my example creates a bit more of a realistic hair/head outline

Like I said, the problem may also very well just be me trying to talk about things I actually know nothing about.

I think I get what NS and Luiishu are talking about. Amalie's hair is shaped similarly, but that's because her hair is parted on her right. The "gap" is the exact point where her hair parts. Aeyr also has on his left side of the head.

Mia's hair isn't parted like that. Instead, she has hair puffing out in the front. That's why her hair was draw the way it was. That being said, I agree that it's worth adjusting if for no other reason than to match her character portrait, where such a gap is not seen.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! Mia's hair has been added to the to do list!
