Fake 90's Magazine Ad - (2019)

For fun, I like to imagine what certain rpgmaker games would look like as commercial games:

...I was gonna add more to it, but it's really hard to find decent logos and trademarks for rpgmaker at this resolution.
Great job on the new spritework and artist, Blindmind! Can't wait to see more!

This kind of advert takes me back to when I was a kid.

This is so fucking bad ass! I'm the same, used to always make Rpg Maker box art for my games haha.

This is super cool. I hope you decide to do more of these for other games too!
XD Aw!! I logged into RMN totally not expecting to see this. Please never stop being awesome, LBR! ♥

Speaking of which, I actually put together a "fake" SNES Box art for BR a while ago! I intended to use it in the upcoming Kickstarter for the commercial version, but I decided it was probably too cheesy haha. It's not as great as yours, though. ;P

Made an edit! XD

now someone print the edit, wrinkle it, rip some parts off, caress the page with doritos fingers and put some soda stains on it then scan at 300dpi please

XDDDD JosephSeraph, My face hurts from laughing so much, this is brilliant. I love it! ♥

Thanks guys, the sentiments mean a lot, especially coming from Dyhalto and (Master) Tau, I know how much you guys love the older rpgmaker games. I miss the shit out of video game magazines.

..I remember there use to be this old GamePro Magazine that had the walkthrough for Final Fantasy 6 at our library in this issue of GamePro. But, the thing that really sucked about it, was that, unlike Nintendo Power, the strategy guide was segmented into parts - So if you wanted to find GOGO and beat the 7 dragons, that'd be in one issue, but if you wanted to learn how to keep Shadow in your party, that was in another issue - it was so bogus! But on the plus side, I think, in the preview section, that was first time I saw Tales of Phantasia and I was blown away that, they'd keep such a great looking SNES game in japan. (sorry guys, I'm rambling here...)

...But the point I wanted to make - and the really cool thing about these ads was that, because we were kids and didn't have a lot of money, we'd buy these magazines, we'd pore over these magazines advertisements like, 800 times for years, cause that one magazine had to last. But memories would form around these impression. And it's those strong impressions would make us eventually check out these games:

(What's that angry grandpa shouting in the cage for? you got a girl
who kicks butt AND a wizard? AND it has ANIMATED CUTSCENES?
Woa this game has EVERYTHING!)

But yeah, I really miss video game magazines.

I would’ve added more to this ad and I'd like to do more for more rpgmaker games – whoever made the logo/icon for rpgmaker2003, probably worked really hard on making something distinct for rpgmaker2003:

...but it’s really hard to work with, I decided not to include it. It’d be cool if we could like, arrange something with degica, to make a more professional logo for 2000/2003 or something.

I loved the original:

A very simple knight chess piece, in profile. It’d be cool if we had something similar to it, or get an upscaled version of that but sleeker in design – so that when people see the logo they’ll immediately recognize it’s an rpgmaker2003 game, kind of like when you see the black square playstation logo or something:

But yeah, Kudos to Anna Yioshka for her great concept art!! This is stellar stuff BlindMind!! Please keep at this!! I always imagined Beloved Rapture was like this long lost experimental JRPG that came out in 97', between Beyond the Beyond, Wild Arms, Saga Frontier and Final Fantasy 7 - It's a huge opportunity to finally be able to have the tools to finally create something like this in rpgmaker2003.

Yeah, I remember seeing a big spread of Tales of Phantasia in Nintendo Power and shitting a brick. I wanted it so badly, but we never got it. Those rotten non-localizing bastards... >:(

But thanks to the magic of emulation and fan translations, I finally got to experience it, and it was everything I had wanted as a kid and more 8)
This reminds me so much of when I used to leaf through the new issue of Nintendo Power to the Epic Center (wow, what a pun!) section to see what new RPGs were coming out. Granted, about 1/10 saw a NA release, but it was still amazing. I think the last Epic Center was either about Earthbound 64 or Quest 64, but I'm talking about the golden age, baby. Such great work!

@Darken:
And years later, the only place to find the ultra-low res images will be at a site called "bill's rpg farm" that doesn't show up on google somehow
