Making 3D games is too complex? RPG Paper Maker will simplify your work!

RPG Paper Maker is a game making engine, free for non commercial use, allowing you to create a 3D universe with many 2D sprites and even 3D objects using a simple interface for all available platforms: Windows, Linux, and MacOS.

RPG Paper Maker gives you a way to create RPGs in a full 3D world as simply as it is in 2D! RPG Paper Maker also comes packed with cool retro inspired graphic assets for you to use in your own projects.

Adapted for several type of games

The engine is mainly tailored for J-RPGs, but you can create almost any type of game with it such as Action RPGs, Tactical RPGs, etc.

Designed for beginners...

Our philosophy is simple: being able to create a 3D video game without any knowledge in:

  • programming
  • 3D modeling

The user friendly interface lets you build your game without worrying about complex algorithms!

... and for experienced users!

If you have any knowledge in programming and/or modeling, we've got you covered. You will be able to:

  • Create or modify JavaScript plugins
  • Import your own 3D models in .obj format

Combining your knowledge with RPG Paper Maker can makes your games even more special!

Publish and share your games for free...

As long as you don't have any profit with your games, you can use RPG Paper Maker freely! So if you only want to create games for fun and share it to a community, don't be afraid, you will be able to do it for free!

You can contribute to the project on GitHub here: https://github.com/Wano-k/RPG-Paper-Maker.

... and commercialize your games with some fees!

Any commercial game made with RPG Paper Maker will require a license to be sold for one person in a team with unlimited games. The actual price is $79.99, check out more information here: http://rpg-paper-maker.com/index.php/downloads.

[NEWS] New Patreon goal for 1.7.0 and next major versions

Hello there! Some news coming up.

A huge thank you

First of all, I wanna say a huge thank you to all the people that are/were Patrons in Patreon and/or bought the commercial edition on Steam! Thanks to that, I was able to keep focusing longer on development and make the engine grow more and more!

I also want to say thank you to people that are active in the community by helping other people and sharing their creations!

Patreon goals and new versions

However, it's getting harder and harder to keep being 100% on development with these earnings. As you may know, I'm the only developer on this project and being able to hire someone to speed up all the development is one of my plans. Nevertheless, I'm currently unable to pay only myself so there's a need to gradually increase these earnings.

Here is now what will happen for next versions:

  • Don't be affraid, the engine will keep being free for non commecial use!
  • Each new major version will need a Patreon goal to be speed up (made in 3 weeks)

For example, for the next 1.7.0 version, the speed up development will be started only after reaching a $300 goal on Patreon. As long as the goal isn't reached, I won't progress on development but focus on communication to bring more people into the engine, work on future DLCs assets, and support and bug fixes. If the goal is reached before the end of 1.6.X, this version would be speed up too!

The next goals will be different amounts in order to gradually increase the earnings.

Get advantages from being a Patron!

Also, note that you have a lot of advantages when becoming a Patron:

  • You can receive gifts (reduced price on commercial edition and future DLCs assets Steam keys) according to your total $
  • According to the tier you choose, you can have some special advantages (higher influence on next features, your games being showcased, your logo in the engine splashscreen...)

BECOME A PATRON!

The new features for 1.7.0

Here are the new features that will come for 1.7.0 if we reach a $300 goal:
  • Command enter a name menu
  • Main menu customization
  • Troops battle reactions
  • Object states: options (through, stop animation, direction fix, keep position)
  • Custom fonts
  • Random battles in map properties
  • Base equipment heroes
  • Characteristics for classes
  • Language manager
  • Command create object in map
  • Command move object (complete)
  • Command change status
  • Command input a number
  • Command reset camera
  • Command change battle music
  • Command change victory music
  • Command end battle
  • Items option: can't be sold

Thank you very much for being here in this exciting adventure, let's make awesome games with RPG Paper Maker!

Didn't work for me when I opened it. But, whether it was my resolution or sys specs, it still looks amazing.

Are you try again?

what are the system requirements for this?

Intresting... not say that :( not even read me :( ...

Gave it a try and this program is actually really sick. Really is a nice sweet spot between RPGMaker and Unity. My only hang up right away is that I wish the default ingame GUI was a little more polished. Like letter by letter for messages and juicy cursor things you'd expect an rpgmaker project to have out of the box. Though that's probably something on the bucket list.

Really like the dev interface so far and the combination between being able to go from flat sprites to voxel-pretend cubes all the way to OBJs. Didn't have to look at any tutorials to get something going. It's a potentially insane deal changer for indie RPGs imo.

I'd probably make a short game in it if I wasn't so tied up with my current project adsfjsafdaisfdsadf
It says version 0.2.0, so somehow I do have the wrong version. Even though it was uploaded this July? Odd.

Finally, I get it to download. Maybe I got an earlier version last year and it was pulling from that?

I installed to a different location and it seems to work now.
What is your current version? You can see it on the main window title. The last version is 1.2.2.

I just tried to download on Windows with this link and I have nothing like you described (but options in tabs are still disabled because the software is still in huge development!).
Even with the option checked, I don't have all the graphics shown in the tutorial.

As for changing the tileset, it will appear to work, but if you go back in and look at the tiles again in the tileset manager and go back to the tileset you just changed, it crashes. Setting it for use on the map to try to get around the problem also crashes, or defaults to the main tileset.

There's a lot more in the tutorial. Maybe the wrong version got uploaded?

Stuff such as half the options in each tab being grayed out and unchangeable, more graphics than I have, even more options than I have points to either this being the wrong version or yours is way ahead of ours.

Thank you for your feedback. Could you tell me what were the steps to make the engine crash please?

Here are the guides for using resources: https://rpg-paper-maker.github.io/basics/manage-your-resources/. I think that you didn't check the "Show available content of ..." option to see the complete list of available assets.
I downloaded this and I must say... I'm disappointed. It looks nothing like the screenshots show, it crashes when I try to change tilesets, it's not ready. I don't even have all the graphics shown in the screenshots.

Unfortunately, it looks like I'll be sticking with RPG Maker or Smile Game Builder.
Ahah I need to give more feedbacks to updates here! I'm back. :D

Amazing stuff! When able, I'd love to see more of the editing interface; I'm curious to see how similar the database stats and what-not are to RPG Maker.

Either way, love how the graphics in the sample stuff look, and this sounds like an amazing concept. =D
This looks awesome! Think of the possibilities! Subscribed and eager for more. :)

I have started my journey to get my first 4/5 before dreaming any bigger than that. Gradual and steady does it... hopefully.

Maybe I should wait to make my new super secret project in this engine instead of RM2K3. This looks so epic.
wow! This is fantastic! Can't wait for it's release.
Thanks ! :3

will there be key input processing? Could someone make a legend of zelda like game in this engine?

Yep, you can assign your key inputs for the game, and even create your own commands (it only allows you to use it on your event commands). For Zelda, yep it could be, but for now I don't plan to code it. You'll have to fiddle with scripts and events, such as RPG Maker.
