Champs of the Bocca is an oldschool dungeon crawler with roguelike elements developed on RPG Maker VX Ace. It features a 15-floor procedurally-generated dungeon, with 5 elemental themed sections, that is new each time you enter it. Combat is simulated rather than the turn based combat that RPG Maker game usually has. The game is a McBacon Jam #2 joint by team team team team team team team team team team team team team team team team team team team team team team team team team created in less than a month.

Most tileset graphics are created by Crazy_Leen, with additions by Ratty524.

STORY
There were eight. Four heroes, four villains, who worshipped the Bocca, the local gods. The "Shine" was a divine tool widely used by the 4 most worshipped of the Bocca. The lesser Bocca, however, grew jealous and stole away the precious "Shine", placing it inside a complex and ever-changing labyrinth only accessible to mortals. Unable to retrieve it themselves, they have each selected two champions - one hero, one villain - and, due to mistrust between the Bocca, agreeing to only send one champion from each camp at a time.

8 heroes and villains must retrieve the "Shine" for the major Bocca in order to appease them and restore holy fervor throughout the land.

GAMEPLAY
Champs of the Bocca is currently a mechanic-lite "roguelike-like" dungeon crawler demo that combines roguelike elements with Zelda-like non-persistent dungeon levels and simulated battles. You choose a hero and a villain, set out, and try not to die. In the midst of everything trying to kill you, discover shops selling all sorts of items, varying from not actually useful to somewhat useful to absolutely necessary. There are monsters everywhere.

Features:
  • Procedurally generated dungeons

  • Simulated battles

  • The mission to rescue characters who have died on specific floors

  • Themed sets of floors: Cave, Stone, Fire

  • Monster-specific movement behaviour

  • Custom Music and some sound effects made by Icepick001

Future work includes alcove generation, equipment customization, addition of new monster room layouts and floor themes, keybound items and other room layouts.

ENJOY!

Watched Liberty's stream and I'm just popping in to say that the character artworks are absolutely delightful! I like how unique and varied they are, and how much they didn't look like your standard video game characters.

When I originally drew these characters (that were originally conceived by captainregal), I just came from watching an inspiring talk by Disney veteran Glen Keane. It really got me in the mood to draw something that best represents the personality types I was given, and I guess my animation background sort of rubbed off in terms of the style I chose.

The rest of the credit goes to Regal for concieving this cast and Crazy Leen for the tileset and most of the character sprites, though. Thanks!
Great job!
It's sadly .. pretty barren gameplay-wise as it is, but I'm sure with coming additions this will be a blast to play.

Also .. I may be sick and all, but I put up a review for your pleasure.
Ask questions and stuff. When it's up, that is.
