Everyone knows the story of Final Fantasy IV by now. Yet, I've always wondered what if things had gone a different way? What if, say, Rydia had never joined your party? Or Kain had stayed with you after the incident in Mist? These questions and more are what this game explores, and tries to give a definitive answer to.

This is not a scene-by-scene remake, but rather a re-imagining of what I think a "parallel dimension" Final Fantasy IV would have played like. For the graphics, I took a lot of inspiration from the PSP remake, though I did try to up the quality of the graphics at least a little bit (especially using Celianna's tilesets which are amazing). Most of the tracks from the original game have been replaced with remastered/remixed tracks from all over the internet, such as OCRemix, the DS version, Dissidia, and many Youtube artists.

I'd like to note here that I went for a blending of several prior versions of the game in terms of the actual 'feel' of the game. Such as the title screen, I went for the classic U.S. release on SNES and just upped the graphics as much as I could. Other areas will have more of a SNES feel while others will reference the PSP and even DS versions at times. The maps themselves are similar to, but not exact, replicas of the original maps from the SNES version. Dialogue is going to be a mix of the Gameboy Advance translation with original story by me.

Lastly, a huge shutout and thank you to the dev of Legend of Balance. Your game was an inspiration and tremendous guide for me, and it's awesome.

IMPORTANT - If you come up with an error stating that you are missing the xinput1_3.dll then you will need the following (safe download from Microsoft's site) DirectX Jun2010

**Do NOT enter the Moon's caves post-game or else you will glitch your game!**

Reverted the build to a previous one (in which there were no significant issues save for the lag on the Overworld). My apologies for the inconvenience, but it seems that trying to fix the lag present only caused more issues.

Lag Killer & New Download

Hi peoples!

Got a pretty big update, and it's that I think I somewhat killed the L-A-G present on the Overworld (especially in late game). I've also fixed up a few passabilities in some areas, and I believe I fixed the whole post-game bug-whenever-entering-moon-caves-thingie. I've posted a new download for the game with these new updates (Google Drive) so I hope you'll take advantage. Oh, and you'll want to start a new save for the game after downloading this updated version. Old saves will work, but they'll be all wonky when going back and forth between Overworld and towns/dungeons.

Here's hoping the game performs better, and thank you all for your support! =)

Been slowly playing through this when I have free time and figured I'd leave some thoughts. I'm currently just starting the sealed cave in the underworld, and my team's around level 35-37 or so.

It's interesting to see some of the storyline changes you've made. I notice you definitely like killing off some of the main characters! I was kind of hoping Edward would play a bigger role in this game (with an updated skillset), but nope. On the other hand though, we get to play with Golbez on the team, so that's definitely awesome.

There does seem to be some wide gaps in character balance though.

When he first joins the party and for the next like 8 hours of gameplay Golbez was a total putz, dealing pitiful damage with his tier2 spells to the point where he actually did more damage with his melee attack instead of casting magic, which didn't seem right for such an iconic and powerful mage. Just recently though Golbez has started to learn the tier 3 spells like Blizzaga, and those deal FAR more damage than the tier 2 spells, and he went from weakling to my best aoe damage dealer. I think the problem was that there was too much of a delay for him to learn the tier 3 spells, or the tier 2 spells just deal too little damage, but anyway now he feels like the supreme mage he was meant to be.

Kain doesn't really have many options in combat (just like the original game), but even so he's definitely my best single target damage dealer by a long shot. For boss fights I now basically just give Kain haste and let him deal all the damage by himself while the rest of the team supports with buffs or heals since it's almost not worth them attacking for ~500 damage or so while Kain is dealing 3000+ per instant jump attack. I think it would have been interesting to give him some other options, like maybe elemental jumps or something, just to make him less one dimensional. He's definitely plenty powerful already though.

For the "main" character, I have to say Cecil feels like total dead weight on the team. His damage is pathetic, dealing maybe 500'ish damage per attack (compared to Kain's 3000+), and his heals are even worse, barely able to AoE heal for like 150 health with Cura. On boss fights, I'll have Cecil use his first two turns to cast Protect and Shell, then he doesn't really do anything except feed an occasional Ether to Golbez. Feels wrong for the main character to be the weakest unit on the team. Maybe he learns some powerful skills later? I'm not sure, but right now around level 35'ish he's definitely just kind of there with minimal team contribution in fights.

I don't have much to say on Porom. She's the team healer, and she's good at what she does. She has high speed, a huge MP pool, and her heals are sufficient to keep the team alive. Can't really ask for more than that I guess.

Anyhow, tonight I'm going to tackle the sealed cave. Been having fun with the game, and the boss fights seem very well tuned to be a challenge. I just wish Cecil was more useful :)
Is there Libra in this game to see enemy's status and Resistances

Is there Libra in this game to see enemy's status and Resistances

That is one spell that didn't make it in for practical reasons. Between the new enemy HP gauges that pop up whenever you inflict damage (allowing you to keep track of how much damage you're dealing), and going on what you may remember of resistances/weaknesses from the original version of FF IV (much of those are similar to the original's), I figured that Libra wouldn't have as much of an impact in this particular game.

That, and after trying to get the thing to work after hours and hours of trying, it just wouldn't work for me. So I told Libra it was mean, and then scrapped it. =P
What happened to the other game you were making? I've noticed that it's been deleted?
I can't seem to figure this one thing out...
The Enterprise seems to disappear as soon as it lands the first time(after the scene where the demands to meet in exchange for Yang are stated) and I'm stuck on the world map unable to trigger transitions afterwards.
I'm using the latest release so why am I getting stuck so far in..? (also the game crashes with an error if I try to get out of the "quit" menu without picking something)

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I've been out of town recently. I just put up a data patch under Downloads that'll hopefully fix that issue. It'll only work for saves just before you get the Enterprise.

If you're still having issues, send me your save file and I'll fix it for you.

Yeah, sorry about that. Something concerning came up some time ago where it was necessary to get rid of the game page. If we're lucky, someone better than I will take what I started and really run with it. Here's hoping.

What happened exactly? Or are you not allowed to say?

Just can't get into it, my apologies. I will be working on something new though, in the near future once my job settles down a bit. =)
So, I finally got the airship issues worked out, but when I got the earth crystal back to troia, the airship was gone when I left!

Yeah, it looks like me trying to get rid of the lag on the Overworld backfired real bad. I'm going to revert the build back to the previous one. At least it worked all the way through with little issue, even if there's huge lag on the Overworld. Sorry about that Lunarman.

I never had lag issues on the world map before; it was just the airship disappearing. Though now I'm facing input lag in menus instead...

Oh, there's quite a bit of lag especially when you get into late-game on the Overworld, but it looks like it can't be helped. I'd advise downloading the updated build that is the previous version that seemed to work all the way through for everyone, and if your save isn't compatible for whatever reason then I'd start a fresh save. Again, my apologies on that. I tried to get rid of the lag by separating the Overworld into different maps at key events and it just didn't work out like I planned.
Hey…what happened to the review that was posted up earlier? Did the reviewer happen to take it down or was it just denied for some reason? I know that I had a chance to glance at it briefly and it mentioned some of the story changes that the reviewer didn’t happen to like and all, but I was just surprised that it disappeared so quickly. *sigh* Oh well.
Longshot since it's been over 5 years since you've posted - but I think the event with Aeris is broken? I talk to her after winning the arena (pre-beating the game normally), she says "Mmmm Cloud ..." "Where am I...?", stands up in bed and ... the music stops, and the game freezes.

I've tried talking to her sprite from all 3 available directions. From the west, she doesn't even get the "Where Am I?"; Cecil steps backwards 1 step on the north, and 2 on the east.

Any ideas?
