Everyone knows the story of Final Fantasy IV by now. Yet, I've always wondered what if things had gone a different way? What if, say, Rydia had never joined your party? Or Kain had stayed with you after the incident in Mist? These questions and more are what this game explores, and tries to give a definitive answer to.

This is not a scene-by-scene remake, but rather a re-imagining of what I think a "parallel dimension" Final Fantasy IV would have played like. For the graphics, I took a lot of inspiration from the PSP remake, though I did try to up the quality of the graphics at least a little bit (especially using Celianna's tilesets which are amazing). Most of the tracks from the original game have been replaced with remastered/remixed tracks from all over the internet, such as OCRemix, the DS version, Dissidia, and many Youtube artists.

I'd like to note here that I went for a blending of several prior versions of the game in terms of the actual 'feel' of the game. Such as the title screen, I went for the classic U.S. release on SNES and just upped the graphics as much as I could. Other areas will have more of a SNES feel while others will reference the PSP and even DS versions at times. The maps themselves are similar to, but not exact, replicas of the original maps from the SNES version. Dialogue is going to be a mix of the Gameboy Advance translation with original story by me.

Lastly, a huge shutout and thank you to the dev of Legend of Balance. Your game was an inspiration and tremendous guide for me, and it's awesome.

IMPORTANT - If you come up with an error stating that you are missing the xinput1_3.dll then you will need the following (safe download from Microsoft's site) DirectX Jun2010

**Do NOT enter the Moon's caves post-game or else you will glitch your game!**

Reverted the build to a previous one (in which there were no significant issues save for the lag on the Overworld). My apologies for the inconvenience, but it seems that trying to fix the lag present only caused more issues.

Features:

- Random Encounter Radar System
- You may go to fullscreen by pressing ALT + Enter
- Battle Rows similar to the original game
- Classic side-view Final Fantasy-type battle system (Modified Journey Battle System)
- New cut-scenes and dialogue depicting an alternate version of events from the original story
- 15 to 30 hours of gameplay
- Battle Difficulty options
- Enemy HP Bars (they're visible when an attack is made)
- D-Pad functionality on Gamepads
- New "Lunar Expanse" bonus area (Boss rush dungeon)
- New "hidden" Arena

Lag Killer & New Download

Hi peoples!

Got a pretty big update, and it's that I think I somewhat killed the L-A-G present on the Overworld (especially in late game). I've also fixed up a few passabilities in some areas, and I believe I fixed the whole post-game bug-whenever-entering-moon-caves-thingie. I've posted a new download for the game with these new updates (Google Drive) so I hope you'll take advantage. Oh, and you'll want to start a new save for the game after downloading this updated version. Old saves will work, but they'll be all wonky when going back and forth between Overworld and towns/dungeons.

Here's hoping the game performs better, and thank you all for your support! =)

There's some transfer issue in Baron Castle: I'm trying to exit the East Tower and I'm teleported to the room with the treasury but on the rooftops and I can inly move on them and ultimately can't move forward with the story.

Also, there's a bit of messy and unclear descriptions for abilities. Some even miss them! You should standardize the descriptions to a degree; like it wouldn't hurt to specify that spells deal "<element> magic damage," or for status-inflicting spells to say, e.g. "Inflict Poison on one enemy, gradually decreasing its HP." so they're more descriptive.
And lack of single-target spells is really weird. I could understand -ra and -ga spells being AoE (IIRC the original Final Fantasy does that), but there's no excuse for tier 1 spells to also be AoE.

The reason for Tier 1 spells being AoE is because in FF IV you could make a single target spell be an AoE for many of the Elemental spells, and with the way the battle system works (even with script tweaks) I wasn't able to implement that on-the-go choice in battle, so I settled for making Tier 1 and Tier 2 spells AoE since I couldn't give the player the choice of single or multi-target.

And the spell descriptions (for the most part) come straight from the GBA spell descriptions which I just copied over and adapted. Same with the Items and so on. If there are spell descriptions that are blank that the player can access do let me know which, and I'll fill'em in. And in the next few moments I'll be updating the Data Patch with the fix to your issue hopefully. Thanks for the feedback! =)
hey man, just some questions.. are there secret stuff in the game? like itens/bosses/areas? also what would be an endgame party level, 50s? i never played the original game.

Actually I'm a girl but that's neither here nor there. =) There are plenty of secrets in the game like items and even some crossover characters from other FF games. There's a bonus dungeon post-game, and a hidden Arena that you can fight monsters and bosses from not only FF games but other Square-Enix titles. As for the endgame party level you're looking at being around mid-50s to 60 to have a healthy but easier challenge. I hope you enjoy the game!
For now the the only ability missing a description is Omni Force's Shadow Strike. I'll provide you with more info as I work on the Wiki.
Also, regarding single and party-target spells you could also add tier 4 spells; that way you could make tier 1 and tier 3 spells single target (including healing spells) and tier 2 and tier 4 spells AoE (including healing spells), if you didn't want to mess with scripting and you're not good with it.

Oh, and this game is much better than the original Final Fantasy IV in my opinion: it has a much greater substance in regards to characters and some story points that in the original version I wasn't really fond of. But damn, this game is so depressing (death everywhere OTL ).

You're working on a wiki? AWESOME! That is awesome! And thanks for letting me know I'll fill it in for Shadow Strike. You think this game is better than the original? Holy... that's a huuuuge compliment thank you Noel! And yeah definitely prepare for death. lawl

Sacrilege!

But seriously, this is a fantastic game. FFIV is my favorite FF game, and I think this game definitely compliments it. Going to play a bit more tonight.

Great job balancing the battles, too. Really feels good to play.
Personally I find Cecil a boring character, there's nothing exciting about him for me. Here he is also a bit boring, but the spin you put on other characters definitely makes this game better! I find the story a bit too paced: characters speak just as much as too quickly advance to a new plot point, sometimes making me wonder why they aren't saying some things (I can't tell at the moment what could be added where for a nicer story balance), but I think it could be amended to a degree with little field chats or something.

And yes, Gredge, the battle balancing is great here. It's not actually that often that you find such balanced battles in fangames.

And this is a general Final Fantasy fandom Wiki, nothing really exciting.

Also, I once again got stuck, this time during the battle with Barbariccia: once the information about using Kain to Jump at her appeared it was fine, but then when it appeared the next turn (I think of Barbariccia) because I haven't yet used Jump the notice appeared once again and froze the game in the weirdest of ways: the game simply stopped, I couldn't do anything, there was no script error, nothing of the sort.

Thanks for the compliment on the battle balancing! Hmmm... that's odd to say the least. I've tried several times to replicate that and I can't do it on my end. Maybe a reboot may help? I know that sometimes with playing RM games they can seize up or have weird glitches occur if you're playing them too long. Whatever the case, see if you can try to replicate the glitch, and I'll keep digging on mine.

Having a blast so far. I have noticed some minor bugs and misspellings such as passability issues (or lack thereof) in the cave leading to Damcyan and using the word "here" instead of "her" when referring to Rosa. No problem at all with those.

However, I just discovered a game-breaking bug:

After the events of Damcyan, you wind up outside with the Hovercraft rising from the desert. I went back in and examined Edward's harp and then entered the Crystal Room. I noticed that some of the bases of columns were not present. It was just black space. Anyway, I walk around the room for a minute and then tried to leave. The music changed from the Crystal music to the Damcyan music, but I was still in the same room. So I'm guessing a teleporter issue?

Luckily, I have a save outside of the castle, so no harm no foul. I hate it for the poor sap that decides to save in that particular room though...

Anyway, thanks for creating something that has sparked my interest. So far I find the changes, intriguing. Looking forward to see how everything goes.

Sounds like a teleporter issue, yeah. I'll put up a new Data patch with the fix shortly. Nice catch Zadok! Oh and I'll fix that misspelling too. I'm glad you're finding the game interesting. Let me know as you progress how it goes. =)

It's been uploaded.
I'm loving the game so far! My friend and I were playing it together last night. Anyway I tried to enter the weapon shop in Mist and I got an error saying that it was missing a file from the Parallaxes folder. Thought I should let you know. I'll just avoid Mist for now. Off to Troia!
