Everyone knows the story of Final Fantasy IV by now. Yet, I've always wondered what if things had gone a different way? What if, say, Rydia had never joined your party? Or Kain had stayed with you after the incident in Mist? These questions and more are what this game explores, and tries to give a definitive answer to.

This is not a scene-by-scene remake, but rather a re-imagining of what I think a "parallel dimension" Final Fantasy IV would have played like. For the graphics, I took a lot of inspiration from the PSP remake, though I did try to up the quality of the graphics at least a little bit (especially using Celianna's tilesets which are amazing). Most of the tracks from the original game have been replaced with remastered/remixed tracks from all over the internet, such as OCRemix, the DS version, Dissidia, and many Youtube artists.

I'd like to note here that I went for a blending of several prior versions of the game in terms of the actual 'feel' of the game. Such as the title screen, I went for the classic U.S. release on SNES and just upped the graphics as much as I could. Other areas will have more of a SNES feel while others will reference the PSP and even DS versions at times. The maps themselves are similar to, but not exact, replicas of the original maps from the SNES version. Dialogue is going to be a mix of the Gameboy Advance translation with original story by me.

Lastly, a huge shutout and thank you to the dev of Legend of Balance. Your game was an inspiration and tremendous guide for me, and it's awesome.

IMPORTANT - If you come up with an error stating that you are missing the xinput1_3.dll then you will need the following (safe download from Microsoft's site) DirectX Jun2010

**Do NOT enter the Moon's caves post-game or else you will glitch your game!**

Reverted the build to a previous one (in which there were no significant issues save for the lag on the Overworld). My apologies for the inconvenience, but it seems that trying to fix the lag present only caused more issues.

Features:

- 15 to 30 hours of gameplay
- Battle Difficulty options
- Enemy HP Bars (they're visible when an attack is made)
- D-Pad functionality on Gamepads
- New "Lunar Expanse" bonus area (Boss rush dungeon)
- New "hidden" Arena

Lag Killer & New Download

Hi peoples!

Got a pretty big update, and it's that I think I somewhat killed the L-A-G present on the Overworld (especially in late game). I've also fixed up a few passabilities in some areas, and I believe I fixed the whole post-game bug-whenever-entering-moon-caves-thingie. I've posted a new download for the game with these new updates (Google Drive) so I hope you'll take advantage. Oh, and you'll want to start a new save for the game after downloading this updated version. Old saves will work, but they'll be all wonky when going back and forth between Overworld and towns/dungeons.

Here's hoping the game performs better, and thank you all for your support! =)

Just got through the baron waterways.

1. Minus the passability thing you already know about (read it in an earlier comment) there are also two random airship workers who act like everything is fine over in the right side of the castle.

2. When talking to the imposter king he says I must save I've enjoyed impersonating him. Save should be say.

Just uploaded the latest Data Patch that reflects those fixes. =)
Couple more things below. Overall I've been enjoying it, and the changes make an interesting experience. One thing I should mention is that bosses after scarmigilone don't feel as challenging as he was. I think this is partially due to the fact that you gain so many helpful spells after that fight. Could also just be the fact I've been playing on normal, and normal is quite easy for someone like me.

1. When giving golbez's demands, a character says if you want your friend to continuing living. continuing should be continue. Tried to be somewhat vague here to avoid spoilers just in case anyone else reads this.

2. I can't test this in depth right now as I'm at the tower of zot, but I believe pressing q while in vehicles can put you inside the lunar whale, even if that vehicle isn't the lunar whale itself. I only just now tried it right as I entered my airship and my game froze, possibly because I initiated it during a scene.

I fixed the first one easily enough, and the 2nd thing is a known bug and nothing I can do about it. It's literally a limitation of the engine and the vehicles script I'm using. The only thing I can tell people, is if you don't want to glitch your game, don't press Q key or L button on your gamepad while in a different vehicle. =P

This could probably be fixed by simply disabling that key via a switch in the vehicle interiors script (I could do this for you if you'd like). Simply have that switch turned on when you get the Lunar Whale to enable the interior function. I'm not to that point yet so I don't know if you still have access to your old airship once you get it. If so, you'd have to initialize a separate vehicle for the Lunar Whale and it'd get into some more difficult scripting (this is what I had to do for the Black Chocobo in LoB so that it could have the ability to land in forests, but the regular airship could not).

You don't have access to any other airships when you get the Lunar Whale. I'm using CSCA's Vehicle Interior script. If there's a way to disable that key until you get the Lunar Whale via a switch that'd be great. I've already got a switch for it too for when you get the Lunar Whale. I tried for hours trying to disable that key, looked around in forums, and nothing. You have NO idea how awesome you are for offering to help. =)

PMed you a fixed scripts file~
Made some more progress and ran into an odd bug, but before that an observation. The room of rmn was nice, and I liked the rmn showcase (though I've played those already lol). Most surprisingly of all though, I didn't expect a reference to such an obscure game as langrisser. I love tactical games as well and seeing that was nice. Your take on fft should be interesting as well, but that's a ways off.

On to the bugs.

1. I temporarily started running from battles to check something, and when I was trying to run from two medusas I got petrified first, making me unable to run. This was fine as I was just going to use fight to kill them instead, until I clicked the fight command, watched kain move forward, but then not getting any commands to accompany him. This put me in a deadlock to where I just had to wait for them to finish me off, or reset the game.

2. When Lugae jumps, it looks like he turns into a wooden door while hes in the air. Pretty funny and easy to miss if you aren't watching carefully.

When the game opens, my boys be flyin' back after rippin' off the Crystal.
Two fights and we arrive at the Castle. A guy takes me to see the king.
As we walk through the first door, the screen goes black...GAME CRASH :(

This error shows up:
Script 'Game_Interpreter' line 1411
NoMethodError occurred.

undefined method 'anti_lag=For #<Game_system:Oxa 90df1c>

Ain't never seen this before.
Can it be fixed ?
Am I the only one to get this error :)
I am also getting the same error as Linkis.

Try the Data Patch I just uploaded. Apparently the Anti-Lag script (the new one) I was using doesn't like the game, so I reverted back to Moghunter's script.

The first issue is a bug within Fomar's ATB script apparently, and one that I've just got notified of a few fixes that'll fix the system and running away and all that, just gotta wait for those fixes to be sent and I'll implement them immediately.

As for the second issue, that's funny, and I'll fix it immediately. =)

Really? I just checked it on my end and it seems to be working fine now. Try re-downloading the latest Data Patch I put up and be sure to copy the contents over to the existing version. If that doesn't do it for you, then delete what you've got completely, then do a fresh install of 2.9.1 I just uploaded. That ought to do the trick.
Not much to report on my end. Just been hunting the dark crystals, and I assume the order I go in is my choice. Since the game told me the lieutenants were going after the tiamat/aegis crystals and the boss was going after the sealed cavern crystals, I chose to do tiamet/aegis/sealed route. Finished the first two and about to start the sealed route.

Main reason I'm posting is my friend ran into another bug. At the baron inn (right after you take the devils road from mysidia to baron), if you talk to your old teammate in the inn, if an npc is blocking one of the guards that are supposed to move, the game freezes. Worded this in a non-spoilery way since anyone who's played the original would know this section, and I left out the parts unique to this game.

Edit: Now that I'm going through, one observation on my end. The trap doors target seems a little off centered, so it's not obvious who he his targeting. Makes it a little harder for me to cast reflect on the right person.

Edit 2: Just got the lunar whale so now I'm relaxing in the arena a bit. Just won a minerva bustier and I'm curious what the deal with it is. Has no description, and actually lowers defense, magic attack, magic defense. I would think it would be better than the black garb since I haven't ran into a minerva bustier yet, but the stats show otherwise. Looks like I can't handle the round after yet, that mp drain is a killer. I'm in the lvl 45s so it might be possible, but not without preparing some ethers beforehand.

Damn those NPCs! lol no problem easy fix. =) And yeah the trap door target animation isn't centered dead-on, but I'll see if moving it a few more pixels will help.

I just put in a description for the Minerva Bustier, but basically the deal with it is that it puts emphasis on attack power, defense, and agility (plus it resists against Paralysis) at the detriment of magic attack and magic defense. I never used it in the original game either. lol I hope you're enjoying the Arena. It's one of my personal favorite areas in the game.
After updating I go to load my save and get this error:

Script 'Game_System' line 92: TypeError occurred.
no implicit conversion from nil to integer

If it helps, I saved in the bonus dungeon.

That's an issue with VX Ace itself when you either add new programming scripts or fix existing ones. Because of certain programming script fixes, those with existing saves won't be able to load them, because VX Ace for some reason doesn't apply new programming to older saves. There is a warning about this on the Data Patch download page. The only ways to fix this is to either revert your version back to the version when your save worked fine, or to restart your game. My sincerest apologies either way, but it's something we've all had to contend with when using VX and VX Ace when it comes to save files with new builds.

Always make sure to keep a backup of your existing data before updating with any VX or VX Ace-based game, as this can and does happen as you've seen.
Took a break, came back, and started destroying the arena. I've gotten pretty far, and I haven't even visited the moon yet. Been going around exploring, and it surprised me when I tried entering baron castle and the guards told me no admittance on orders from the king. I wanted to check that underground throne to see if you added anything hidden there that only showed when you progressed so far.

I should also mention that the npc's dialog not getting updated during the course of the story is pretty glaring. Baron town for example the npcs keep saying the king is oppressing them even though I liberated it long ago. Yang's wife getting a dialog upgrade was a nice tough, but the kings was just sad if you visit him again.

Still haven't visited the moon, and currently working on the arena AA Match. Defeated the first match but the second one is a killer. 2.5k physical hits and 1.5k aoe hits, neither of which my curaja can quite outheal. Half wondering if I'm doing this sooner than intended but I'm determined.

Current Stats:

The first issue is...very odd. All the new conversation after liberating Baron and the soldiers not barring your way should be there. I've triple-checked, and the switch that runs is part of an autorun event when you get the airship, and all the new convo is activated by it, and lets you re-enter Baron Castle with ease. Which tells me that, for some reason, while playing your computer decided not to read that switch. I've incorporated that switch upon exiting the Town of Troia. Hopefully that'll fix it up for you. I've uploaded the latest Data Patch with those fixes (be sure to backup your data before updating just in case).

As for the second thing, I beat the entire Arena at Level 60 with my party, but it wasn't easy to be sure. You're definitely under-leveled for that particular point in the Arena, but it may be possible to do at around level 50, but I know I couldn't do it. lol Best of luck! =)
Looks like I can't update without breaking my save which is unfortunate. I backed up my version though so I just reverted to the one I was playing. Strangely enough, I think the baron castle guards reverted after I got the lunar whale.

When I first liberated the castle, all the guards inside the castle gave me new dialog, but I don't remember any of the baron citizens in the actual town giving new dialog. Even considering that I know many citizens in troia/fabul etc don't really change dialog after you finish with the area. As an example, the king in fabul castle talks about the villain grabbing crystals (whom is no longer the main bad guy at that point), and the troia epopts going on about the mysterious voice when you're way beyond that point. It's possible my game just didn't update those though as you said.

Figured I'd specify a bit to see if it helps any. As for the arena, I'm contemplating whether to keep trying, or to get my team up to 50 instead of being slightly under. I could always do a little more of the story and then come back but a part of me isn't willing to give up just yet. I've got one strategy in mind that might work. As it stands, 3 of my characters mostly cast spells, while cecil buffs/attacks. If I put my characters in the back row the second bosses damage output would be crippled, but it'd lower my cecil's damage output as well. This strategy would rely on the third enemy I haven't gotten to not having reflect though. Might try it once just to see how it goes.
