Everyone knows the story of Final Fantasy IV by now. Yet, I've always wondered what if things had gone a different way? What if, say, Rydia had never joined your party? Or Kain had stayed with you after the incident in Mist? These questions and more are what this game explores, and tries to give a definitive answer to.

This is not a scene-by-scene remake, but rather a re-imagining of what I think a "parallel dimension" Final Fantasy IV would have played like. For the graphics, I took a lot of inspiration from the PSP remake, though I did try to up the quality of the graphics at least a little bit (especially using Celianna's tilesets which are amazing). Most of the tracks from the original game have been replaced with remastered/remixed tracks from all over the internet, such as OCRemix, the DS version, Dissidia, and many Youtube artists.

I'd like to note here that I went for a blending of several prior versions of the game in terms of the actual 'feel' of the game. Such as the title screen, I went for the classic U.S. release on SNES and just upped the graphics as much as I could. Other areas will have more of a SNES feel while others will reference the PSP and even DS versions at times. The maps themselves are similar to, but not exact, replicas of the original maps from the SNES version. Dialogue is going to be a mix of the Gameboy Advance translation with original story by me.

Lastly, a huge shutout and thank you to the dev of Legend of Balance. Your game was an inspiration and tremendous guide for me, and it's awesome.

IMPORTANT - If you come up with an error stating that you are missing the xinput1_3.dll then you will need the following (safe download from Microsoft's site) DirectX Jun2010

**Do NOT enter the Moon's caves post-game or else you will glitch your game!**

Reverted the build to a previous one (in which there were no significant issues save for the lag on the Overworld). My apologies for the inconvenience, but it seems that trying to fix the lag present only caused more issues.

Features:

- Random Encounter Radar System
- You may go to fullscreen by pressing ALT + Enter
- Battle Rows similar to the original game
- Classic side-view Final Fantasy-type battle system (Modified Journey Battle System)
- New cut-scenes and dialogue depicting an alternate version of events from the original story
- 15 to 30 hours of gameplay
- Battle Difficulty options
- Enemy HP Bars (they're visible when an attack is made)
- D-Pad functionality on Gamepads
- New "Lunar Expanse" bonus area (Boss rush dungeon)
- New "hidden" Arena

Special Controls:

To enter Lunar Whale's control room:

Lag Killer & New Download

Hi peoples!

Got a pretty big update, and it's that I think I somewhat killed the L-A-G present on the Overworld (especially in late game). I've also fixed up a few passabilities in some areas, and I believe I fixed the whole post-game bug-whenever-entering-moon-caves-thingie. I've posted a new download for the game with these new updates (Google Drive) so I hope you'll take advantage. Oh, and you'll want to start a new save for the game after downloading this updated version. Old saves will work, but they'll be all wonky when going back and forth between Overworld and towns/dungeons.

Here's hoping the game performs better, and thank you all for your support! =)

Looks like I can't update without breaking my save which is unfortunate. I backed up my version though so I just reverted to the one I was playing. Strangely enough, I think the baron castle guards reverted after I got the lunar whale.

When I first liberated the castle, all the guards inside the castle gave me new dialog, but I don't remember any of the baron citizens in the actual town giving new dialog. Even considering that I know many citizens in troia/fabul etc don't really change dialog after you finish with the area. As an example, the king in fabul castle talks about the villain grabbing crystals (whom is no longer the main bad guy at that point), and the troia epopts going on about the mysterious voice when you're way beyond that point. It's possible my game just didn't update those though as you said.

Figured I'd specify a bit to see if it helps any. As for the arena, I'm contemplating whether to keep trying, or to get my team up to 50 instead of being slightly under. I could always do a little more of the story and then come back but a part of me isn't willing to give up just yet. I've got one strategy in mind that might work. As it stands, 3 of my characters mostly cast spells, while cecil buffs/attacks. If I put my characters in the back row the second bosses damage output would be crippled, but it'd lower my cecil's damage output as well. This strategy would rely on the third enemy I haven't gotten to not having reflect though. Might try it once just to see how it goes.

Sounds like you might have a winning strategy there. Let me know how it goes. =) My favorite boss of the Arena is the last of the AA round. If only because every time I hear that one's music I get so pumped and hyped for a good, challenging fight.
Heh, it was fun. The second round enemy got absolutely demolished by that strategy. Knocked down his one hit attack from like 2.2k to 1.1k or around that which was much more manageable damage output. His AoE attack wasn't really a threat in comparison. The last round boss wasn't too bad. He mostly just used tornadoes but he did use his quake/gravija a couple times.

Went into round one of the AAA but I don't think my levels are gonna work for that, though I haven't tried anything in depth yet. Just from watching the enemy though I'm feeling like I'll need to progress the story a bit and come back. Carrying that Illumina to the moon should be nice though.
Hello.
I need a little help where is
The fathers lair?I have missed where i should go and the man in Lunar whale are saying to me to go there. The man himself will be in Crystal palace he says.

I downloaded the latest patch and:script game system line 92 type error
no implicit conversion from nil to integer
What I does wrong, if game crashes on entering worldmap first time?
Error message below:
"Script 'Game_Interpreter' line 1411: NameError occurred.
uninitialized constant Game_Interpreter::Game_system"
What can be done to avoid it?

Apparently you guys didn't read the warning on the Data Patch download page. =P

IMPORTANT - Your save file may not work correctly or come up with an error when applying this patch. This is due to programming script fixes/additions/subtractions and unfortunately it's a bug of VX Ace not to handle it correctly. Always make sure to backup your existing data!

The only ways to fix this is to revert your build to a previous version when your save files worked or to restart the game. This is a common issue with games using VX or VX Ace unfortunately.

My crash happend not with savefile, but about ten minutes from start game, when I leaving Baron Castle first time. I didn't save/load there. Downloaded 2.9.1 version at first time, because I've heard about your game just yesterday. Didn's use older versions, so can't know on which will work...

My apologies on that, you actually caught a glitch and I'm glad you did! It's due to some leftover code from a script we took out earlier. I just uploaded the latest Data Patch and now you should have no problem. =)
Something little wrong:Beta on level 99?
It s a great game so i will start over once the patch is working.
where do you find dragon mail?Dragon shield?I played it for over 10 hours before and completly missed them.

I just updated the Data Patch (I had accidentally clicked the Start Player on the World Map to test it lol). Now it should work.
Well, I finally met my match.

I lost to Anima (which FF does this one belong to?) in the battle arena. I think I'm Rank D now. I'm determined to beat him on Ultra difficulty just like all the others. Storywise, I just made it back to the Overworld after Cid did his kamikaze.

I really enjoy a lot of the little differences here and there. Looking forward to those bonus dungeons.

Thanks for quick solution, I'll try it ASAP.
Also one question: you don't mind if I make a walkthrough of your game on Youtube (with link here, of cource)?

Anima belongs to FF 13, and I can only imagine how tough that boss is on Ultra difficulty.

I'm glad you're enjoying it! I definitely took some pride in creating the Arena and the Lunar Expanse (especially some of the areas in the Lunar Expanse like the 7th Floor).
I'm definitively going to have to do an ultra difficulty run at some point. I only did normal the first time around because I was more interested in seeing all the changes.

From what I can tell, with my current levels/gear, the arena AAA match is impossible (least with my setup it is). stomp in particular destroys me due to it applying slow while hes already faster than me. In fact he keeps up even if I do pull off slowing him and hasting someone. My efforts have been fruitless with levels 50-51 (last arena match leveled me quite a bit), with full diamond gear. I think my best bet is moving on with the story to unlock more gear (in particular I need to find pieces of gear that negate the slow status). With that said, time to take my trip to the moon.

Should also mention I also didn't get the anima reference (and he was the first arena boss to stop me until I worked out a strategy), but then I couldn't get through ff13 due to the corridors. I need my exploration. that also made me not get the direct sequel even if it may be better. I've played a ridiculous amount of rpg/strategy games so I caught most of the references though.

I absolutely loathe FF13, but I figured I'd reference it so that it shows I acknowledge it exists in the series. LOL Enjoy the Moon! I had a real blast doing the final dungeons and went to town on perfecting things as much as I could. =)

Personally, I stopped after FF10. I don't like MMOs, so no 11. I tried 12, but just couldn't get into it mostly due to the characters and the battle system. The battle system was more Action RPG, which is too easy to exploit IMO. Don't get me wrong, I like Action RPGs, just not when it comes to Final Fantasy. When I saw some gameplay footage of 13, I just cringed. Very pretty game, but severely lacking in substance. Walking down a tube for most of the game is definitely NOT appealing to me. 15 is also pretty, but I'd rather do my hacking and slashing with a full blown action game such as Devil May Cry/Bayonetta/God of War. Sometimes simple is better.

Awesome! Oh, and be sure to grab the latest Data Patch as well. It has a better balance for the ATB gauges, and all the fixes to go with them.
I just added the latest data patch and got this as soon as I loaded my saved game:

Help?
That has to do with that warning she has posted a few times. With vx ace, it unfortunately glitches saves if new programming was added in afterwords, which is why he advises backing up the version you had to be safe.

Thanks. The reason I downloaded the newest patch in the first place was because:

I have the Lunar Whale now and when I tried to go back to Baron Castle, they wouldn't let me in (like it was when Cagnazzo was king).

I just reverted to the previous patch I had and everything is ok, but the bug regarding the castle is still there.

Edit: I also encountered another bug:

After getting the Lunar Whale, if you go back to the Tower of Prayer behind the Crystal Room in Mysidia the event involving the Lunar Whale coming out of the ocean is replayed and can be done so repeatedly.

I'm running 2.7, so I don't know if it's already been fixed in a later patch, but unfortunately for me, the latest patch crashes my saved game.
