Valentine:
Robin Valentine lived a very peculiar life. Her parents ran and lived in their self named Orphanage, Valentine Orphanage. Unfortunately Robin was barely noticed by her parents. Angela and Micheal Valentine were much to preoccupied with work to fully raise their daughter. On Robin's eighth birthday she woke up in a hospital only to find out her home burned down, with her being the only survivor. Now, ironically, she is an orphan. Whist being in another orphanage, her isolation grew. She barely talked, barely moved... Everyday she sat on the porch staring out into the trees. She claimed to see someone else in the mirror every time she looked in it.
Things finally taken a turn for Robin. After her fourteenth birthday she was taken by a family who run a small time foster home with their daughter. This is when Robin met her best friend Madotsuki, daughter of the family. The two were inseparable. When the two graduated they had a difficult time figuring out what they wanted to do for their lives. That is when they received that one phone call. Damien Bezlan was Madotsuki's Uncle. Bezlan was known throughout the world as being the god of pharmaceuticals. Discovering the temporary cure for the common cold. The millionaire heard of his niece's lack of direction and allowed her and her "sister" to live with him, helping him and his housemates with keeping the house in order. Robin, however, has been having vivid nightmares, they've appeared so often that she has trouble distinguishing them from reality.
Characters:
Robin Valentine: An eighteen year old girl, foster sister of Madotsuki. Robin is awkward and quiet unless she is around Madotsuki.

Madotsuki Hatori: A nineteen year old girl, foster sister of Robin. Madotsuki spends most of her time watching movies and playing video games, her personality somewhat rubbed off on Robin.

Griffon Ukrai: A twenty-four year old male. Griffon's life has been rather boring. He never did anything to fully stand out beside enjoying sudden road trips. Griffon is quite open to talk to anyone, though he is not much of a conversationalist.

Jasper Lysandre: A young woman in her early twenties. She isn't fully sure who she is, or where she is living. She has received an invitation to stay at the Japanese fair grounds to clean the grounds and make sure it is rid of garbage and weeds. Jasper is very polite and hard working. She is on her feet most of the day, she also has quite the upper body strength even though it does not seem like it.

Features:
Chase scenes
Puzzles
Optional Yume Nikki inspired ministory
5 chapters
Some Movie Cutscenes

List is here! http://hypertropia.deviantart.com/ Appears in the game's cutscenes go check 'em out! They do some cool stuff!

Other:
Thanks for clicking on here! Valentine has been in development since 2011. Chapter One is very reminiscent of Ao Oni as during one point Valentine/Chapter One was going to be an Ao Oni fangame. It's been remade a ton of times! I'm so glad I was finally able to release a game I was fully satisfied with, I hope you enjoy the game and find the best ending!

Disclaimer:
Valentine contains harsh themes and images, such as blood, abuse/assault, coarse language, and suicide. Valentine also contains sudden chases and potentially jumpscares. As the creator I take no responsibility for any possible damage that can arise from playing this game.
The game has occasional spelling errors and words that go out of the text box. I am unable to fix it. I lost access of RPG Maker VX Ace in a computer crash (needed to factory reset) and support has not replied. I cannot fix the word errors. My apologies!

Another update!

Check the games images for the controls. Some have told me that the controls sometimes revert back to default. Please make sure the controls look match the image or the game will not be completeable.

Sadly dropbox gives me an error. You might want to upload the file directly instead of using dropbox.

Yeah... I got an email when I woke up today saying Dropbox suspended the link due to high traffic. I'll try uploading it somewhere like mediafire, since my game is larger than this websites limits.

Is it? I didn't know that could happen.
Also, may I ask how long the game is?

In the post guidelines it says a max of 450MB Valentine is 500-650MB
The game took me about an hour and a half. When my friend played it, it took them about 3-4 hours, not counting deaths. It depends on how well you solve the puzzles and avoid death.
I hope this game goes far. I had a few difficult glitches when I first started the game, but the developer took the time to fix all of them. Thank you once again Graves. I am excited to play this game.

Okay, slight spoiler ahead.
I've gotten to the point where I need to go to the piano room with the music sheets.
Go into the library, some "meme" thing plays and the game crashes because it can't find a graphic.
Sooooo... what do I do to fix that?

Alright, I hate to ask for help, really, but I'm completely stuck in that cave on the island, in the area where you can die from the monster thing. How in the world do I get through this? There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it, no matter what route I take I can't get through...I can't tell if the monsters are invisible, if there's more than one that's constantly following me, or if the whole thing's on some kind of timer before you die. I just can't tell lol..help please??
I half way through the second chapter and I should probably finish the game first but I feel the desire to tell you my reception of "Valentine" thus far.

I do appreciate a game with a good story and I'm thrilled that you've been inspired by witches house and Ao Oni, so perhaps I can offer some thoughts on your project in an effort to help you grow.

I'll touch base with the main 4 points I'd like to make:
- mapping
- puzzles
- mechanics
- narrative.

The layout of your maps are well thought out and interesting to play through as they offer a lot in the way of variety. I would suggest however that you go through all your maps, "fine comb tooth style" and fix the terrain. There were many points in which I was able to walk on walls and many other things that I shouldn't have been able to walk around on. otherwise good job!

When it comes to puzzles, they can offer two things to your game: A challenge which adds variety to the pacing of a game and a chance to learn something about the narrative. A successful puzzle in any game, needs to be able to telegraph what the answer may be. Within the first chapter, you had a puzzle that dealt with braille. A great concept for a puzzle, but it wasn't telegraphed.
there are a bunch of ways to telegraph an answer to a puzzle, in this case, one of the diaries could have stated that the mother was blind but used the sheet music to teach the daughter since she knew the music off by heart, of that she used braille. Secondly, this needs to be a clue that we as the player have the ability to read over and over, like a note or a memo that can repeatedly looked over. When you're able to use a puzzle to progress the plot line, then all the better. sometimes a puzzle can detract from a game if it has nothing to do with it's story.

There were two mechanics I need to address. First is the Yume Nikki game. While I like the concept, I felt that the game was sadly unfinished and ultimately didn't add much to the overall main game. The majesty of yume nikki is about discovering a world within someone's mind and piecing the mystery of that person's story together. I wouls say that if you're going to use this idea, always think on terms of how you can progress your plot and strengthen it (also there is a glitch, you you go through the black door twice, you start the game over as Sebastion)
At the start of the game, there was a moment when Robin was spoken to by an omni present force, essentially telling you to press a button should you need guidance.
Other than the start of the game, it doesn't come back into play. Be careful of adding frivolous mechanics that we use once and never come back to again, it might be used later in parts I haven't played up to yet, but if all the characters are connected as stated by the spiritual force, then this mechanic should be applicable to all characters.

The Narrative... I can appreciate all the different ideas that you're trying to fit in, but I'd have to offer the advice that "less is more" and "expand on what you have"
In the case of the first chapter there are too many ideas going on which leads to a convoluted plot which confuses players if all the points don't add up or flow nicely from one to the other.

<> SPOILERS <>

1. Robin has a nightmare and wakes up (ok, good start)
2. She's met with her uncle who runs a pharmaceutical company who wants her to go check on someone
3. an omnipresent force tells her to check in for advice (oh, okay)
4. she meets the man she's to meet with before she dies (wait, she has people with her? who are they?)
5. They are chased around by the green man and we learn that the daughter has a history of violence
6. We discover an underground laboratory and that the daughter is evil and controlling the monster
7. Robin is captured but then plays music on a piano, the end
I can understand that the idea was the monster was a product of the drug company, but there's too much story and it doesn't flow from one point to another.

Of course, your skills for story telling will grow with your experiences.
My advice is to you is to take what criticisms you may receive, both positive and negative and learn from it. You do have potential to make a really great game! So don't give up an keep trying!
oh an also...
having credits between each chapter is suicide for the rest of your game...
if it wasn't for the 4 uploaded images on this web page, and me thinking to myself "Wait, those images weren't in the game."
I definitely would not have gone back and continued playing past the credits.
Okay, I am absolutely stuck on the clock puzzle. I can't figure this out to save my life and the only thing I've gotten is a headache by looking at this image going from blurry back to clear (got glasses and troubles with my eyes, these things are like acid to me).

I realized last night when my friend played it that the hints were erased. It must have been when I fixed the random sound from happening too often. I'm also fixing the blurry pictures as well, I didn't think they were that bad, but when I saw them lit up big on a TV I noticed they were terrible. I'm changing those now! Sorry about that, thanks for your patience though!
Alright so I'm stuck again, this time in chapter 5...

I'm at the part where you wake up in the cell and have to free your friend. I grabbed the severed head, got the doll, got the teddybear, then cut the teddy bear open for the key. From here, some problems arise. As soon as you grab the key, you can exit thru the door to the right, into the room with all the spikes, WITHOUT rescuing your friend, and you get stuck at that point. Also, I have no idea what I'm actually supposed to do here. Is there something else I must do somewhere else in order to pass these spikes? Because I see no way through them at all, and the game locks you into this room once you enter it. Speaking of being locked in, the room with the green doll locks you in if you re-enter it after taking the doll.

Anyway, yeah, help would be appreciated cuz this part is just confusing me and it doesn't seem to be functioning right, either.
I'm afraid I hit a game breaking bug. I'm at the part where I'm in the village where they started sacrificing children. After helping the 2 ghost children I went into the cave again but now I can't keep going. Unless I'm an idiot and couldn't find the real way I think this is a bug as I can't go straight down the path because something is apparently blocking the way.
Hello. i downloaded and tried to play this game but when i opened it an error appeared saying "RPGVXAce RTP is required to run this game." do i need to download something else or is there something i'm missing?
When I go in the white room at the beginning of the game, I can't do anything. It tells me to press C or Button 1, yet C does nothing. Am I just being stupid?
