Generic RM2k3 RTP Gaming Fun!

I always wanted to make that game based on everything I enjoyed as a kid. This is the end result.

Hero's Realm creates a super-synergy of proactive features to create a gaming experience greater than the sum of its parts.

Lead four heroes and their teams against the evil forces of Mephistocles, the Lord of Demons in this retro-RPG adventure. Toggle between the four heroes as you explore dungeons, ascend towers, spelunk caves, save villages and defeat the forces of evil! Reminiscent of classic RPGs such as Dragon Quest III and Final Fantasy V, Hero's Realm is a fun romp in old-school RPG nostalgia.

-22 character classes (12 base classes, 4 hero classes, 3 secret classes, 3 master classes)
-TONS of game content and sidequests
-Classic NES-era and SNES-era RPG gameplay
-Great music
-Multi-party switching system (like Kefka's Tower in FFVI!)
-Multi-party tactical battles (at least 5 of them!)
-Massive world map
-Fun

The story is split into 5 chapters, with each of the first four chapters focusing on a new hero, and the 5th chapter bringing them all together.

Chapter 1: Won't Somebody Please Think of the Children?
Chapter 2: There is Something Fishy Going on...
Chapter 3: Land of the Rising Son
Chapter 4: True Calling
Chapter 5: The War on Terror

Strictly For Commercial

I have embarked on a new journey...

Approximately one month ago I was approached by an angel investor to explore the possibility of flipping Hero's Realm into a commercial project. Like naive fool that I am who believes he has more time than ever, I tentatively agreed. (Details are still being hashed out).

While the month of June was hectic, July has slowed down and I have earnestly begun my work on cleaning up the game and getting it into a state such that custom resources can be created as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible. Hero's Realm is a large game that made very liberal use of Final Fantasy IV, V and VI rips, a ton of MIDIs for every possible mood and locale, and RTP resources. Minimizing this into a smaller more cohesive set while still maintaining the "feel" will be a tedious process, but it must be done.

A few weeks ago I compiled a list of all of the pertinent feedback that the game had garnered over the past 7 years since its release. I noted all of the major and minor bugs, suggestions on class balance and features, and general impressions left by the various facets of the game.

I also have a laundry list of small enhancements. Things like amplifying magic damage (spellcasters are underpowered), rebalancing classes, and rebalancing skills are all on the table. The Master classes will be toned down, weaker classes tweaked, some overpowered skills nerfed. I will also be adding 3 new Elite classes (Death Knight, Freelancer, and Assassin) to make greater use of the class change mechanic.

The numerous overt references to popular media will be changed to be more subtle. Dialog will be reviewed. The story, such as it is, will remain as is. If I have the wherewithal I would add a new final dungeon (something people identified as a weakness), but I am not certain yet.

This is all in the early stages. I don't have a timeline estimated yet (but I hope to get my initial work done within the next couple of months). The tentative plan is to NOT do a Kickstarter (too much hassle), but to do a Steam Greenlight, and then explore other avenues like itch.io. Stay tuned for notices about the Greenlight drive!

I am adamant about leaving up the original Hero's Realm for RM2k3 v1.5 up here on RMN. (It's already out there in droves so it's not like I have a realistic chance of scrubbing it out anyway). I hope that the enhancements, fixes, changes, and custom resources will be sufficient enough to encourage people to buy it over the original free version. And if it gets on Steam, the market is distinct enough that the free version wouldn't even be known. Plus, I couldn't give up the Makerscore.

If you guys are interested, I can post frequent blogs detailing my progress in my prep work. Otherwise I will just post announcements when major milestones have been achieved.

Wish me luck!

tl;dr - HR is going commercial

Welp, I found the problem! The Kumite event was scripted to check to see if you added your party members in Vegeta, but since you were playing in the New Game+ you didn't have to go through the initial adding party members (since your party was already chosen).

Anywho, I fixed the event.

Download it here: http://rpgmaker.net/users/kentona/locker/Map0266.lmu
...and paste it into the main folder of Hero's Realm, overwriting the one that's there.

Let me know if that works!
Yep seems to work kentona thank you. I wanted to playthrough again and find all the tiny medals and get the lightsabre and see what it does and such. I really hope you make a sequal xD

Welp! Sometime overnight this game crested 4000 downloads. I am now waiting for my induction into the RM Hall of Fame.
...and it's only here! ^^
Just think of all the downloads throughout the gamers sites. 8)
It's definitely well deserved.

Wouldn't you know it... I fight that thief in Chapter 2 for a good 20 minutes(?) before victory is achieved, all other party members die aside from the Black Mage, and first battle I get into, the Black Mage gets his ass handed to him before he can even escape.

What a time to not have any revive items in the game, eh? What a time to not have any Warp Whistles, or whatever they're called to escape the dungeon...

Seriously, should I even go back a second time?

EDIT: And just so you know, I think there might be a problem with abilities like Toss, as all other party members can't act until some random turn in taken.

EDIT2: Or better yet, what level should I be, since I've already bought the best that my group can carry at this moment.

That ability issue has to do with RM2k3 and there is nothing I can do about it. Battle commands with Link to Event can sometimes freeze all other action.

As to levels, usually at the end of the chapter I expect you to be around lvl 11~14. I guess take some revives next time! :D

There's revive items? Oh wait, Life Herbs. Funny thing is, I can't find them. And yeah, I was probably lv 12 at the time.

Yeah, I probably didn't make them sold anywhere. That was foolish. Chalk it up to a poor design choice there.

However, I'm pretty sure I sold Warp Whistles...I think.

One of these days I'll have to play through this again and fix up some of the minor things and bugs. Today is not that day.

If at any time in the near future you catch yourself working on it, there are a few parts of dialogue that, if I remember correctly, are fairly unimportant in Chapter 2 that go outside of the message box, if even by half a word. If you haven't already, I'd suggest getting RMText to allow for quicker fixes to the message errors that you may find.
Hey Kentona is there anyway you will patch this game in the future. I thought it would be cool to face a extra last boss after completeing the game because New Game+ is pretty easy or increase difficultly.

IF I were to replay and fix up this game (and that's a big IF) I would also add some sort of bonus dungeon or post-game content.
Do you plan on remaking this game in another maker (like RMVX, for example)?

Sick! I was always hoping to see what a LP of Hero's Realm would be like.

...actually, what WOULD an LP of Hero's Realm be like? The game is like 15 hours long. :?
Kentona, I have a question. The theme you use for the airship--in the music folder it's just titled "Theme-21034"--what is it from? There's something about this theme that is just so awesome that I want to try to find a use for it in some future project of my own, if it's available for other uses, that is.

*does some digging*

Okay, so it is called Theme by Curtis Schweitzer - you can find it on his MIDI page http://www.laurasmidiheaven.com/Original/Midi-Music/Curtis-Schweitzer-Original-Midis.shtml

I think I have a few of his other songs, though I don't know if I used them in Hero's Realm.

Ah, wonderful. Thanks muchly.

And, once again, thanks for the absolutely wonderful game. It's an inspiration for all aspiring designers.

Yeah, that's pretty long for an RPG Maker game. I just finished my LP for Carlsev Saga I -- an 8-hour game -- and it took me 52 videos. It'll probably take me a month or two to record, but it should be fun!

Edit: Plus, it'll be my first playthrough. It'll be raw and uncut, unless I get ten game overs in a row or something.

I will have the first few episodes posted tomorrow! I have about 2 hours recorded thus far.
