Generic RM2k3 RTP Gaming Fun!

I always wanted to make that game based on everything I enjoyed as a kid. This is the end result.

Hero's Realm creates a super-synergy of proactive features to create a gaming experience greater than the sum of its parts.

Lead four heroes and their teams against the evil forces of Mephistocles, the Lord of Demons in this retro-RPG adventure. Toggle between the four heroes as you explore dungeons, ascend towers, spelunk caves, save villages and defeat the forces of evil! Reminiscent of classic RPGs such as Dragon Quest III and Final Fantasy V, Hero's Realm is a fun romp in old-school RPG nostalgia.

-22 character classes (12 base classes, 4 hero classes, 3 secret classes, 3 master classes)
-TONS of game content and sidequests
-Classic NES-era and SNES-era RPG gameplay
-Great music
-Multi-party switching system (like Kefka's Tower in FFVI!)
-Multi-party tactical battles (at least 5 of them!)
-Massive world map

The story is split into 5 chapters, with each of the first four chapters focusing on a new hero, and the 5th chapter bringing them all together.

Chapter 1: Won't Somebody Please Think of the Children?
Chapter 2: There is Something Fishy Going on...
Chapter 3: Land of the Rising Son
Chapter 4: True Calling
Chapter 5: The War on Terror

Strictly For Commercial

I have embarked on a new journey...

Approximately one month ago I was approached by an angel investor to explore the possibility of flipping Hero's Realm into a commercial project. Like naive fool that I am who believes he has more time than ever, I tentatively agreed. (Details are still being hashed out).

While the month of June was hectic, July has slowed down and I have earnestly begun my work on cleaning up the game and getting it into a state such that custom resources can be created as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible. Hero's Realm is a large game that made very liberal use of Final Fantasy IV, V and VI rips, a ton of MIDIs for every possible mood and locale, and RTP resources. Minimizing this into a smaller more cohesive set while still maintaining the "feel" will be a tedious process, but it must be done.

A few weeks ago I compiled a list of all of the pertinent feedback that the game had garnered over the past 7 years since its release. I noted all of the major and minor bugs, suggestions on class balance and features, and general impressions left by the various facets of the game.

I also have a laundry list of small enhancements. Things like amplifying magic damage (spellcasters are underpowered), rebalancing classes, and rebalancing skills are all on the table. The Master classes will be toned down, weaker classes tweaked, some overpowered skills nerfed. I will also be adding 3 new Elite classes (Death Knight, Freelancer, and Assassin) to make greater use of the class change mechanic.

The numerous overt references to popular media will be changed to be more subtle. Dialog will be reviewed. The story, such as it is, will remain as is. If I have the wherewithal I would add a new final dungeon (something people identified as a weakness), but I am not certain yet.

This is all in the early stages. I don't have a timeline estimated yet (but I hope to get my initial work done within the next couple of months). The tentative plan is to NOT do a Kickstarter (too much hassle), but to do a Steam Greenlight, and then explore other avenues like itch.io. Stay tuned for notices about the Greenlight drive!

I am adamant about leaving up the original Hero's Realm for RM2k3 v1.5 up here on RMN. (It's already out there in droves so it's not like I have a realistic chance of scrubbing it out anyway). I hope that the enhancements, fixes, changes, and custom resources will be sufficient enough to encourage people to buy it over the original free version. And if it gets on Steam, the market is distinct enough that the free version wouldn't even be known. Plus, I couldn't give up the Makerscore.

If you guys are interested, I can post frequent blogs detailing my progress in my prep work. Otherwise I will just post announcements when major milestones have been achieved.

Wish me luck!

tl;dr - HR is going commercial

What Would Jedi Do?
So I have 2 multi-party areas left to map (Tower on the Lake and Death's Gate), the Final Dungeon, and the Final Battle to craft. Also, monsters for those areas. After that, the end credits/final cutscene.

Very close...
What Would Jedi Do?
Release Date Set.

Everyone mark March 6th on your calendar.
I had your older version from some other website and I got to chapter 4 because chapter 5 wasn't even close to finished. It was really fun. I will be looking forward to you finishing this.
When I had downloaded the version on the other website I was able to open it up in RPG Maker 2003 And I zoomed all the way out on the world map and it looks like a real world. I also browsed some of the maps. I got addicted as soon as I started playing! Its really well done.
What Would Jedi Do?
I can't believe that brandon hasn't commented on the Release Date yet... :<
He was probably too busy shitting his pants.
What Would Jedi Do?
I am seriously having a lot of fun test battling Mephistocles (the final boss).
I'm not comfortable with any idea that can't be expressed in the form of men's jewelry
Honestly I think this game might be too long for me. :o
When I got it it took me a couple of hours to get to the beginning of chapter 5 and that was before it was finished.
I just realized something funny.

This and Watchmen are being released on the same day, aren't they?
What Would Jedi Do?
I feel bad for Warner Bros. They worked so hard!
Machines don't have feelings.

where do i find the cave... walking around for 5 hours now... plz give me a helping hand =) btw your game is awesome!!!
What Would Jedi Do?
I made a post in the game's thread in the forums with a screenshot of the location of the Cave of Wonders.
Three questions
1. The first main character's spell "expel" doesn't appear in the magic list during battles
2. "Robmagic" has an adverse effect when MP is much
3. i used the "Gem" Tarot card and there's a message "found xxx gold". But my money doesn't increase.
What Would Jedi Do?
1. Expel was mistakenly marked as skill subset Normal, instead of Magic.
2. Robmagic is an absorb spell - undead monsters have a negative resistance to it, so trying to cast it on them causes YOU to lose MP to THEM!
3. Yeah, that was missed. But I have 935 monster groups, so I won't be fixing it. Sorry!
