Generic RM2k3 RTP Gaming Fun!

I always wanted to make that game based on everything I enjoyed as a kid. This is the end result.

Hero's Realm creates a super-synergy of proactive features to create a gaming experience greater than the sum of its parts.

Lead four heroes and their teams against the evil forces of Mephistocles, the Lord of Demons in this retro-RPG adventure. Toggle between the four heroes as you explore dungeons, ascend towers, spelunk caves, save villages and defeat the forces of evil! Reminiscent of classic RPGs such as Dragon Quest III and Final Fantasy V, Hero's Realm is a fun romp in old-school RPG nostalgia.

-22 character classes (12 base classes, 4 hero classes, 3 secret classes, 3 master classes)
-TONS of game content and sidequests
-Classic NES-era and SNES-era RPG gameplay
-Great music
-Multi-party switching system (like Kefka's Tower in FFVI!)
-Multi-party tactical battles (at least 5 of them!)
-Massive world map
-Fun

The story is split into 5 chapters, with each of the first four chapters focusing on a new hero, and the 5th chapter bringing them all together.

Chapter 1: Won't Somebody Please Think of the Children?
Chapter 2: There is Something Fishy Going on...
Chapter 3: Land of the Rising Son
Chapter 4: True Calling
Chapter 5: The War on Terror

Too derivative for commercialization?

When I set out to make this game, I really did mean to take everything I enjoyed about RPGs I played as a kid and make my own game out of it.

Surprisingly (!), this has lead the game to be pretty derivative. Possibly, too derivative.

...and I really need some help in making it sound cool.

Indeed.

Here was my musings on what the game is about:

Hero's Realm is a conventional RPG wherein you control four parties of heroes concurrently to defeat an impending demonic cataclysm.

Hero's Realm is reminiscent of late NES and early SNES classics such as DQIII and IV, and Final Fantasy IV, V and VI, in terms of gameplay and aesthetic.

The coolest unique aspect of the game is the creation and playing of four parties of four playable characters simultaneously, where the player has the ability to toggle the active party as needed.

In a fantasy world in peril, you control four heroes and their parties as they traverse realm to prevent the incoming demonic devastation.

By toggling control of which party the player plays, a player can explore different areas of a dungeon simultaneously. In major boss battles, a different party can be subbed in to continue the fight, for example when one party nears death or a different skillset is needed.

A central facet of the game is preparation and management of their playable characters and their respective parties - the player gets to choose the classes of each of the four hero's three helpers from a pool of 12, and manage the equipment and skills of all four parties from a common resource pool of items and gold.

But what kind of return would a top down retro RPG with no hook or gimmick or witty title expect, honestly? I wasn't going to quit my dayjob for this, but as it turns out my dayjob is quitting on me, so... I may need this to be a moderate success in the short-term so that I don't go into to too great of debt.

(What if I changed the title to something witty? Like Heroic Heroes of Heroism? That might garner some attention. And the game is pretty tongue-in-cheek...)

I need some help (again) to come up with a pitch for the game. Something that I could put onto, say, a Steam gamepage that would actually entice people to check it out. I am struggling to write anything that isn't self-deprecating.

You need to install RM2k3 and it's RTP to play Hero's Realm.
Too bad you didn't use Brickroad's RTP trick.

What do you mean about Brickroad's RTP trick? You mean removing the need for RTP to be installed? Yeah, I won't be bothering to do that until I've finished the game.
chapters and bringing the characters together reminds me of suikoden.Ill play it when it is completed.
How do you start this game?
I get a message about not being able to run system2c?

Very good game. Reminds me of Final Fantasy III (NES) and Dragon Warrior 3.
Like it's supposed to be.

@edchuy: not yet...

@everyone else: Thanks for the comments!
This is the first RPG Maker game I've ever tried and you've definitely left a good taste in my mouth. I enjoyed how you played off using characters and music from other games. It because a sort of side game for me to guess where songs came from, the best was Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!

Glad to be of service to you in your quest to play RM games. (My personal fave midi in Hero's Realm is The Price is Right theme song.)
Totally cute, man. Love what you did with the class system. I was so torn on what to make my party!
So many classes to choose from! Gah! Every time I go to make a party I'm stuck wondering what would be the best for me. And then when I get 'em all picked...I just want more! Bleh. Ha ha. I didn't post any comments here yet, did I? Wow. I can't believe it. But I DO remember posting somewhere, so maybe it was in the blog?

Oop. Sorry for the ramblings. Anywhoo, I hope that this is still under production, even if it's only a bit a day! Or every two days! It will eventually get done! I can't wait to see a finished version of this game! You've gotta do it, Kentona!
Love the game and its class system. Kentona, don't you think its about time to scrap the forum on your website and startover with it. 1/2 of it is screwed up, 9/20 of it is spam, and 1/20 of the posts are actual posts.

Ha! Yeah, too true. It was originally set up for some beta testers. I will scrap it eventually. However, the website is at the bottom of my TODO list for the game right now.
