Generic RM2k3 RTP Gaming Fun!

I always wanted to make that game based on everything I enjoyed as a kid. This is the end result.

Hero's Realm creates a super-synergy of proactive features to create a gaming experience greater than the sum of its parts.

Lead four heroes and their teams against the evil forces of Mephistocles, the Lord of Demons in this retro-RPG adventure. Toggle between the four heroes as you explore dungeons, ascend towers, spelunk caves, save villages and defeat the forces of evil! Reminiscent of classic RPGs such as Dragon Quest III and Final Fantasy V, Hero's Realm is a fun romp in old-school RPG nostalgia.

-22 character classes (12 base classes, 4 hero classes, 3 secret classes, 3 master classes)
-TONS of game content and sidequests
-Classic NES-era and SNES-era RPG gameplay
-Great music
-Multi-party switching system (like Kefka's Tower in FFVI!)
-Multi-party tactical battles (at least 5 of them!)
-Massive world map
-Fun

The story is split into 5 chapters, with each of the first four chapters focusing on a new hero, and the 5th chapter bringing them all together.

Chapter 1: Won't Somebody Please Think of the Children?
Chapter 2: There is Something Fishy Going on...
Chapter 3: Land of the Rising Son
Chapter 4: True Calling
Chapter 5: The War on Terror

Hmmm, you should be able to save on the worldmap, or at save points. (I was trying to emulate "old school" games, for better or worse). So some areas (like towns or caves or dungeons) do not allow saving.

Is this maybe the case for you?

oh my god!! i'm feelin' really dumb right now! that's it! How simple was the solution!! I tried to save in any place but never thought of tryin' "outside". ahahahah please forgive me :D and...thank you so much!

I'm glad it worked out!

I am going to address saving everywhere in the remaster.
I'm looking around all over for some suggested party builds, I can't seem to find any. Anyone have any recommendations, or know where I can find some?

There really aren't any hard and fast rules on what parties that should be used, or even the "best parties" available in the game. For the most part, you should follow the basic tenants of most RPGs. Definitely make sure you have at least one healer in each of your parties. Also, be sure to have a variety of damage that is being dealt (ie. magical, physical, varying elements when applicable). These are definitely not imperatives; I'm sure there are challenges out there where only one class is used across all parties. BUT, these are always good rules to live by in these types of games.

*shameless self promotion*

Here's a short-ish video of the 4 parties I built many, many years ago. IIRC, each class (aside from the 4 main heroes) can be upgraded, so these classes may look weird at first, but I think when choosing your classes, it shows you the upgraded classes. I hope this helps! If not, let me know via a message, and maybe I can give more specific advice!

Actually, I did talk about it, a little bit!

here it is from the FAQ:

https://rpgmaker.net/games/82/tiers/

I recommend having one from each type in your party - a mage-type (Red), a warrior-type (blue) and a rogue-type (green). I would also be sure to have at least one healer and one spellcaster.

Healers (in order of effectiveness):
Druid
Paladin
Warlock
Harlequin
Ranger

Spellcasters (in order of effectiveness):
Wizard
Warlock
Druid
Mesmer
Ranger
Black Knight
Harlequin

As long as you have healing and spellcasting covered, I wouldn't worry too much about your party make-up, though. All of the base classes are effective in their own way, plus you get to make 4 different parties, which encourages experimentation. Furthermore, you can discover secret classes AND upgrade to elite classes (using elfstones) in chapter 5.

+ more etc....
I made this page a few years ago so you can have all the Class/Skills on one page. May be easier when comparing.

If you don't me asking Mister Kentona, does this project have a Discord?
What's a Discord? This project predates Discord.

(Lol no. Should I?)

You could get a ton of feedback by making a Discord. If 30,000 + people have downloaded this, a Discord might be the perfect option for you.

Maybe! I can't even get 300 twitter followers, though

Shhh! They'll know your over the age of 25!
By far one of the best games ever made on rpg maker, i played this back in 2011 and loved the game but i returned to play a newer version of the game (1.5) and dont like it as much, its like the AI is different and grinding is too important, the problem i have is that i have grinded and in chapter one my party just gets wasted (its not because im bad at rpgs).

Some of the conditions in the first tower like chaos are too overpowered (maybe its the classes that are too underpowered), i'd go on a run of winning about 50 battles in a row (proving ive done a good job of grinding before hand) and then suddenly enemies would all attack first (i have full hp) and waste the whole party with ease. Not so much a complaint, just something isn't right with version 1.5 imo. I gave up on the game because of this issue of enemies wasting a party too easily even when i fight intelligently. i know someone probably wont agree with this but when i feel a great game has been ruined i felt compelled to comment on this.

I'm going to stick to version 2011 until i work out whats changed.
the final version of this game came out in 2009... there was a bug fix that came out after but it doesn't alter difficulty at all.

EDIT: oh, the enemies all attacking at once is rpgmaker's built-in "ambush" system, which happens at random. it's always been in the game, seems you were lucky your other playthroughs :P my exact memory of that tower segment is foggy but I'd say just rush through that final dungeon in part 1, that or put a paladin or druid in the party, to hopefully use bless magic on the undead mobs in the tower(I think they were undead, haven't played in a while) before they destroy your party.
Or perhaps 2011 was just better balanced?

The average battle is a walk over.. I played earlier today, 10 battles won with relative ease then suddenly killed by a party with 5/+ monsters that ambushed. That would not happen in your everyday rpg which is a learning curve (note i heal my party inbetween battles as well as save the game which is a bit too much).

I also dont remember being attacked by 5-9 enemies grouped together as much which is also another reason, it doesnt work for me.

I have plenty of white and dark magic, its not about the strategy im using, you dont have a chance to use anything really, your dead the moment they gang up or use certain conditions. Thats all i have to say.

PS:: thanks kentona for the great game (not sarcasm)
How do I beat Shadowstorm? At first things are going well with Kristin on our side, but then she sacrifices herself in vain. This does 40k damage to Shadowstorm, but then it just recovers 10k every turn after, which the remainder of the team cannot out-damage, until it's back to full. With Kristin we may be able to do 10k damage per turn.

Is there any way to prevent Kristin from sacrificing herself, or do I just have to grind up to level 70 or something to deal enough damage to beat Shadowstorm? It almost feels like Kristin having the name of a deity mentioned in game is just a coincidence.
Also, estimates for boss HP:

First boss (can't remember name): 2k
Balthalas: 7.5k
Niddly Wormwood: 6k
Kakarotto: 7.5k
Gormly Wormwood: 12k
Shelob: 15k
Murzhor: 32k
Machin Shin: 6k
Ivangorod: 32k
Catherine: 37k
Peter: 42k
Omega Balthalas: 50k
Iron Gaia: 57k
Magma Dragon: 42k
Urok: 50k
Shadowstorm: ??? (right now for me it seems only the deity Kristin could defeat Shadowstorm, the child of light can damage it heavily but the story seems to invalidate that)
hmmm that almost feels like a bug.

I was around level 40~44 for most of my characters when I was doing most of my testing.

It's been a long while (13 years) since I implemented that segment, so my memory is a little fuzzy, but the sacrificing of Kristin is a scripted moment. It is SUPPOSED to happen, Shadowstorm is supposed to fully heal, and then he stops and the fight is winnable.

Maybe the healing switch isn't being turned off properly in certain cases?

(The whole battle can be problematic, I admit. If you are OVERLEVELED it is very possible to kill Shadowstorm before Kristin sacrifices herself and that breaks the game).

Can you upload your savefile so I can take a look?
I am also in the level 40-44 range. Thanks for clarifying, and I think I know how to beat Shadowstorm now. Shadowstorm only healed 5 turns in a row after the sacrifice and never healed after that.

I was able to beat it the second time.
I'm happy it worked out for you. Thanks for playing! I hope you had fun.
