You will enjoy the friendship with Grappi when you can activate a game.
Help Grappi to happy with three things: the teeth, the fun, the vaccine. Do not a Grappi hurt or unhappy! If you abuse Grappi, he will not happy, and you will not win the game. Grappi can not ignored, just like your friend. Friend to Grappi!

I didn't really mind the deaths either. I mean, being real here, this game is the antithesis to almost every other virtual pet sim out there besides Can Your Pet, so it's no big deal that it's easy to lose Grappi in my eyes.

TBF, I wouldn't be confident of the life expectancy of a blob of purple jelly IRL.
Grappi is clearly the everyman and everywoman, and death is an inevitable outcome of our struggles against- okay to be honest I don't know, Grappi just dies easily.

AFAICT the slide puzzle is just a bonus thing, so there's no need to do it unless you just compulsively like to solve puzzles.
I don't really get why Grappi dies so much in this, since my impression is he's (it's?) a mascot thing. My guess is just whoever programmed the original messed something up. I'd ask uni but I don't really have a good head for code. vOv

I played it three times in a row to see if I can keep Grappi alive but so far Grappi seems to inevitably starve.Of course I can play as gray Grappi but I get the feeling there must be a way to keep it alive.
Haven't been able to solve the slide puzzle I'm not that good at those.

I took the game, already extracted from the exe, and zipped it up. I don't know, but maybe that will work? Here's the link. Hopefully it plays alright! ^_^

I like Grappi, but having seen the forum game .. I feel like I have seen nothing new, or barely anything.
Still. It's fun! No I only need to solve that slide puzzle .. I hate those, haha

I finished Virtual Grappi and immediately I went into review-writing mode. But I'm way too tired to even do that so I'll just say some of my thoughts here.
Overall, the game was quite true to the original and it's as enigmatic as the source material surrounding it. The custom graphics support the atmosphere of this strange yet darkly comic pet game. The only thing I would've liked to see as an improvement was to improve cursor control. Other than that, more than anything I appreciate that a game like this exists. We need more unique little games like this.
What a strange arresting game, like a twisted Tamagotchi creepypasta. For something that I presume has its origins in a choose-your-own-adventure forum game, it's surprisingly promising in concept. So when I heard Virtual Grappi was going to have its own game, I was really excited. It's like an old arcade game, but twisted as if a ghost was possessing the machine. It has a large obtrusive on-screen HUD that obscures next to a third of the screen. You're tasked to observe a purple (sometimes grey?) blob called Grappi in a room that starts with a lamp and window. I wasn't sure why he turned grey sometimes, but I figured after a while Grappi would stay grey if it was burned last time.
Firstly, the graphics are super cute and unique, and reminded me of the few pet games I've played (they're few, OK? I'm trying to tell the truth here). Bouncing little Grappi is cute and has already become an icon in my eyes. I enjoyed the forum game and I'm glad this has made its way into becoming an actual game. For the entirety of the game you just select one of three options, and hope you don't burn Grappi to a crisp. That gameplay is enough to sustain the short duration time, during which the player will probably be thinking "WTF" the entire time. That's not a bad thing; it works to the benefit of the game.
My major complaint would be that the cursor was just way too finnicky. Only 3 interactible items and you can't switch between them by merely pressing one arrow key at a time? It would have even fit well with the arcade aesthetic, and it isn't that hard to program. It also made it less usable because each time you select one of the 3 items, it transfers the cursor back to a certain point near the middle of the screen. It'd be nice if the cursor stayed on the place it last selected. It'd be nice if the cursor actually pointed at the item instead of a little to the right of the item, also.
You're supposed to regulate the levels of 3 gauges: some potion thing, flower, and lollipop. I like that the game stays true to the original concept by making effects of items fairly random and unpredictable. There's a sense of danger throughout while you're playing. The music itself is deceptively happy but it masks creepy undertones. Animations are beautiful and make the game more enjoyable. Items act dynamically sometimes when you combine them with each other. Pumpkins and Christmas trees will catch fire along with Grappi if you use a match. You want to be able to balance the 3 meters, but you're not sure how they even work, and this increased my level of anxiety.
The creepy realm is very scary indeed. The music along with the glitched sound effects create a nice atmosphere.
