Rot: a kinetic novel is a stunning visual novel that was created by Lord_Rutsah on RMN that deals with a lot of adult themes and mild violence. Though no actually scenes of potential rape or murder is shown visually, it does deal heavily with the story and the player is in the middle of it all.

-STORY-

You follow a murderous adventurer on his uncanny journey to save a little girl from the clutches of slavery. In this first person story, you will experience murder, potential rape, and other adult themes in this story and lots of twists in the story.

-INITIAL THOUGHTS-

While I enjoyed reading the story, Rot: a kinetic novel is just that, a novel and not a game. With no actual gameplay to be had, the player is left just reading text on the screen. As a visual novel though, the text is amplified with music, pictures, and sound effects that help the player relate emotionally with the text. Unfortunately, music and pictures alone do not simulate gameplay. Had the player been able to make any changes to the storyline or interact with objects in a scene; then Rot would have been a visual novel game instead of just a novel with pictures. As for Rot: a kinetic novel itself, I found the story to really great and the plot twists in this novel are outrageous.

-PRESENTATION-

The presentation of Rot: a kinetic novel is very enticing and enthralls the reader into the story almost immediately. It almost feels as if you are watching a moving sometimes due to the music and sound effects. The music especially amplifies the text very well. The pictures on the other hand were a hit or miss for me. A good portion of the pictures and drawings helped me to visualize the story better, but more than a few didn't seem to match the description to me.

-OVERALL-

I can’t really say much else. If you like mystery novels, or suspense novels that deal with rape, violence, and murder, then I say check out Rot: a kinetic novel. Definitely read it if you enjoy reading other visual novels and check out Lord_Rutsah’s other VN’s as well.

Thanks for reading, and Happy Game Making!!

How is a visual novel not a game? You have input, upon input something happens.

I understand it has none of the usual core factors you try to evaluate, but instead you can focus on style, pacing, different choices - do they matter? do they give flavour text or nothing at all?
Are the characters realistic? Likeable?

Edit: Sorry .. I missed the negative if .. welps. orz
Still, does it offer no dialogue choices at all? Or do they simply have no impact?
Kinetic Novel means there are no choices involved.
