After much testing and tweaking, I am overjoyed to announce that the Weird and Unfortunate Things are Happening Demo is now live and available for download! :DDDDDDDD
A huuuuuge thanks to all my testers and your dedication and advice. I apologize to the few of you who didn't have time or had other issues. I got such a large amount of feedback that I went ahead and made the fixes and prepared the public download (However, I still welcome your comments after you're able to play :D )
Super special extra thanks to Red Nova, MakioKuta and Racheal for going above and beyond when it came to helping me with this! Also thanks to Formar for being awesome! ^_^
Enjoy!

Aw yeah! Time to play it again! I'm so looking forward to this!
I've played about 20 minutes of the demo and my only question is: when do pre-orders for this go up?
The little dollar bill icon on the gamepage is missing. That's an error, right?
Seriously, this is beyond good. I would pay money for this.

See? See!? I'm not the only one telling you to go commercial with this!

Fourthing that.
Yay! Good job, unity! And good job, everyone else!
Am I going to get angry responses if I express my opinion of being against making this a commercial game? Uh, okay then...

They told me I was mad when I said I was going to create a spidertable. Who’s laughing now!!!

You fools! Unity doesn't believe in getting well-deserved compensation for her hard work!
Thanks so much, everyone! :DDDDD I want to once again give a big shout-out to Maki, Sooz, Pizza, Jo, Geoff and erlyn for working with me on this! You all are the best and it has been fantastic collaborating with you ^____^
As for a commercial release, I dunno, my main goal has been "get people to play this" rather than "get paid." What if I have the main release be free, like the demo, and perhaps go for a commercial "Special Edition" that I try to get on Steam or something? It's something to think about, at least :D

I'd totally buy it.
I don't recall the exact differences in regards to the free versus commercial versions of, say, Remnants of Isolation, but, I imagine that would be a point-of-reference, if you go that route.
In my eyes, commercial games need to be run by experienced people, have original graphics and music, and overall just be good. So pretty much, this game totally qualifies for it. Don't have to go free forever, especially when you put this much effort, haha.

This exactly. I'm becoming more and more convinced that getting the chance to enjoy a creative work shouldn't just depend on whether someone is able to afford paying for it.

This, on the other hand, sounds like a great compromise. I'd have absolutely no issues with that. Marrend's comparison to Remnants of Isolation is a good example.

If you sell a game that makes decent money, you'll be able to afford to hire more people to make more quality work for the game, which in turn should increase the quality of your game overall. Keep at it enough, and you'd be able to make games for a living, which means more time to work on games and more frequent, higher quality releases. I fail to see how this is a bad thing.
I'm not saying unity should quit her job and make games for a living (if you did, that'd be freakin awesome), but you get my point.

As one of the human scum who has decided to make people pay for my work, I understand the sentiment behind making your work free for people to enjoy. I also know that if I spend the rest of my life working in a go-nowhere job, then I'm going to lose my mind.
Game development takes a lot of time and skill. I think it's absolutely fine to charge people for that. If Unity decides to go commercial with this (or a future project), then more power to her. If it sells well and she can ditch her day job and develop more, we'll just get better and better stuff from her, and that's a really good thing.
As for the special edition idea, it really depends on what's changed in it. Outside of a big graphical overhaul (so that it looks different at a glance), my guess is that it won't sell well outside of the community.

That's a good point, Housekeeping.
I dunno, I also feel like if I'm making a commercial game, I'd like to go into everything with that in mind at the very start of the process. Like, I feel like the people who help me should be compensated a lot more if I'm going commercial, and should know about that upfront.

It does depend on whether someone is able to create without worrying about starvation or ditching their social life or etc. ; w ;
other people having to pay is a sad consequence of the model of society we live in. People gotta eat. ; w ;
But yeah, having a free and a paid version is cool, or even a "pay what you want even free" model (with bonuses like say artwork if you donate $1 or more or something idk)
like, I myself love making free resources for you guys. But i gotta eat. And therefore I gotta work. And when I'm working I can't make free resources. That's why I'm also making commercial resources -- so I can have more free time to, well, make free resources. LOL
So yeah. I think it would be awesome if uni got rewarded for her hard work and managed to live off of games, it would be super duper cool! I totes support commercial releases of whatever you do ´W`)/ <3
btw hey fanart
(gotta post it as media bahahah <3)
