What time is it? It's Valentine's!

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! I wish I had something cute planned like the Evocations sending you cards asking to be their Valentine, but I wasn't that well prepared XD;

Instead, here are some sneak peeks at my tileset work for the final dungeon (which I posted on twitter a couple of days ago).

It's been well over a month since I started work on the final dungeon and I'm about 30%-40% done with it. It's kinda big, but I'm trying to make each area of it look distinct and memorable, so that's taking a bit of extra time.
I'm really excited to hear what people think of it when it's finished (and I'm really really hoping it won't be too big for most people's tastes, I'm trying to keep enemy encounters to a reasonable level as well).

There's also something else I wanted to talk about. A minigame opens up before the final dungeon where you can explore an underground mine which may or may not be illusory and you can collect tickets to turn in for goodies. I wanted the mine to look very different as you explore different parts, but I'm a bit tapped just doing the final dungeon.

To keep the project releasing in a timely manner and keep me from experiencing burnout, I was considering opening it up to volunteers if anyone wanted to help contribute. I'd need a floor tile, walls & ceiling, a door, and a couple of doodads for each area, kinda like this image below, but in a different style, different colors, etc.

So, what do you all think? Should I open this up to volunteers? Or just keep my nose to the grindstone and finish it myself? Please tell me what you think ^_^

In the meantime, I'll keep at it. I've still got to finish the final dungeon, do the final boss fight, polish up the script and send it to Sooz for final editing, put the endings in, and do the bonus hell dungeon. It sounds like a lot but I'm hoping I can finish it in the coming months.

We're in the home stretch and just getting closer and closer! I'm super excited, everyone! And have a wonderful Valentine's day filled with love and fun and game dev!

I would definitely push any major development of this minigame idea after the main release. Like, take whatever time you need to finish WaUTaH, take a well-deserved break, then, maybe, give this idea another think. Regardless if you bring in volunteers or not.

*Edit: Also...

Happy Valentine's Day!
My thoughts are to do whatever you think will help you finish. Wrangling volunteers may help your work load, but then you kinda also have to “manage them” and make sure you get the stuff you need? If that makes sense?

I guess what I’m trying to say that it just gives you another extra layer to worry about? Something to consider :)

Then the people that help you out are super talented and helpful and friendly so, that may be a moot point. Either way, it’s going to be awesome, my excitement can’t be contained and Happy Valentine’s Day!!

Maybe I'm thinking way too much on this, but, one thing to consider might be how turning in tickets for rewards work. I'm thinking specifically of what Illusion of Gaia did with the Jeweler Gem. In this instance, the mini-game would contain a limited number of tickets, and the challenge would be in finding them all. Of course, players would still be able to turn in tickets for whatever reward they currently qualify for which may or may not be needed to find other tickets.

Opening it up sounds great, but I probably would release after the game itself as a community dlc (because some of these might mess with your visual style).

And congrats on progress. Keep it up.
Happy Valentine's Day!

I was wondering how this game would celebrate it, since there's no one to ship with good chances.

Thanks for the update!

Good luck!

They told me I was mad when I said I was going to create a spidertable. Who’s laughing now!!!

You're clearly not trying hard enough
Is Dottie with you in the final dungeon? I don't see her in the sneak peeks

You're magical to me.

Thanks! I think, in the end, it might still be easier for me to ask for help, but if I do, I'll probably just contact known tileset artists and ask for a little help.

It's... something like that? You'll have to play the final thing to see, but it's similar :D

Thanks! Actually, this minigame is somewhat important, as the last dungeon is very spare on healing items, and this allows you to get your hands on some if you need any, and it can make up for players who missed fortune tickets in previous levels.

That said, your idea is still a good one, though the after-release content could be the Hell Dungeon instead, as it can't be accessed anyway until you beat the normal game.

She could be. Maybe, hypothetically, I could have been over-worrying about spoiling things. In this hypothetical, I could have possibly edited out the sprite of a fourth team member in a vain hope of not giving anything away XD
