The game is 99.5% done. The final boss is done. The bonus dungeon is done, aside from the cutscene for when you finish it. We've come so far.

All I have left to do is some odds and ends for the ending and replace a couple of the placeholder tileset stuff I put in, and I'm basically done! :D

But there's something I've failed to address with all these nautilus charts: This chart has always charted my progress alone, and I'm not making the game alone. As much as I've done on my own, I could never have done all this without the super talented people who have helped me on the way!

And while I've been lucky enough to keep working on this even as the COVID crisis has continued, the same cannot be said for all of my friends. And there are still some art assets I need and some dialog that still needs to be edited.

So as much as I wanted to say "I'll call for testers on X day and then release this", I can't. Other people are dealing with the ins and outs of real life's struggles, and I'm not going to make a bad situation worse by asking them to hurry or giving them a deadline.

The game will be finished when it's finished. That could be next month. It could be longer. You all have been so kind and supportive over the nearly four and a half years that its been in development. I ask for your patience now, and for hopefully some volunteers to test it when it is finally ready.

Thank you all, and I apologize for the delay.

Oh, and one last thing:

Good job finishing your part!
No worries about the rest coming together. Time's good. Take time.
Multiple chunks for testing works too
Piecemeal should work, if handled properly. It seems like you've got a plan to do that, so... Good!

Given that this final build is going to be pretty meaty on content, and we're still doing stuff with text/art, I was wondering: How would testers feel if I gave them the release in pieces? Like a release to get them started (with a stopping point somewhere in the middle) and then one with the rest of the dialog added in that they can move their saves over to later?
So long as the feedback given on earlier sections are not added in until the whole game is tested, I think that's fine. Otherwise, there's the risk of changes made to the first half could cause issues that would go unnoticed because everyone is busy with the second half.

Oh, that's a very good point! I'll just have to document everything and not implement anything until the full version is out. Thanks Red, I might have overlooked that otherwise :D

I feel that is mostly a question of pacing on the tester's part? Like, how many bugs they find/report versus how fast/thorough they are in playing.

Though, I could totally see a tester wanting to just test/play content beyond the 60% demo-point. That's not to say there isn't value in starting from the beginning and going from there, but, there will certainly be a non-zero amount* of curiosity about that other 40%!

*Count me among that non-zero amount. XD

I'd actually prefer people move over their saves and start at the new content, to make sure there's no issue with moving saves over. If people want to test from the very beginning, I'm certainly cool with that, but I expect that to be the exception, not the rule.

I'm talking more on the level of having roughly half or more of the new content to test while we get the rest working. I'll probably go ahead and make a blog post about it and see how many testers are on-board, while leaving the option to wait and test the whole thing at once for those who want it.

not a tester but i see no reason why that wouldn't work. i don't think most have time to just sit and play the entire game in a day anyway, especially if they're being nitpicky and thorough

It's been about a month since I posted this blog.

Thoughts?
Congrats Unity and Congrats to anyone else who provided support !!!
Wait, so the betas don't have a copy yet, right? 'Cause I wanna beta...

No pressure is good!

Weird And Unfortunate Things are imminent.

(I'm super hoping there's plans to put this on steam or another platform to increase its visibility. This is a really cool game, and I want for more people to have the chance to find out about it and play it.)

Already planned to put it out here and on itch.io, but steam is def a possibility! I wouldn't mind dropping money to put it on there if someone could walk me through how to put up an RPG Maker game on there, and maybe enable some achievements or something ^_^ Game would still be free to play

Take all the time you need, both you and those working with you. Whatever comes out in the end will be worth the wait. Good luck!
