Eldritch Horrors in a cartoon

First and foremost, the tile sets along with the sprites, animations, battlers, and elements are very stylized and unique. I really enjoyed how refreshing it was to play this. It had nostalgic elements of an Earthbound modern setting, mixed together with an eldritch fantasy horror. That being said the majority of the game's elements clash with one another.

The story starts out very simple with a spooked little girl, Dootie, and then takes a serious turn into the paranormal. While light-hearted and playful in appearance the game displays and discusses some very disturbing material. It reveals the existence of sentient creatures very different from life in our world, from a dimension we cannot comprehend.

Not all of these eldritch horrors are bad, though that hardly matters as they tend not to help or interact in any positive way. It even shows a greater aberrant being graphing itself onto the protagonist's soul to empower her without permission/consent.

Despite Alicia's violation she uses the outsider's power to help her reclaim her niece in the invasion of Daybreak.

The town has been completely cut off from reality by a psychic barrier, through which the player must travel. It refers the barrier as as Vedium Space, an intermediate location where the Outter reaches touch our world. Those creatures from beyond that were foolish enough to pass the boarders of their world end up there, and enter our own in search of flesh sacrifices for their masters in exchange for raising their own power. Now the plot is in an even more gruesome light, and everyone in town is either dead or in hiding.

It does a lot of RPG elements well, save for dialogue. One of the jokes is great, but the banter falls short with the excessive cursing.

Alicia is very quick to potty mouth everything, even those that help her. The cartoony style of Makio Kuta's portraits made me feel like this was going to be a pleasant adventure, when in fact people all around me are dying; and being eaten alive by these terrible creatures.

Miriam feels too much like Miss.Piggy from the Muppets. I can't help but feel that was the inspiration for her entire character. She's a stocky blonde who is quick to anger, and revels in snapping at Alicia.

The game punishes you for not using items. Use whatever you find. You are attempting to survive, and cannot hoard what little there is.

It was my general experience that I didn't need items after one one attack-skill was improved to a drain-skill. It was tempting to use items after Miriam joined, but, it was very soon after that I purchased the skill that induces regeneration. Then again, I was playing on the second difficulty level, Lucid Dream. If you were playing on Bad Dream, or Nightmare, I can definitely understand how items would become more important!

Thanks very much for the review, Palladinthug ^_^

To be honest, the idea of Miriam being at all similar to Miss Piggy never came up before, so I'm glad you brought it to my attention. I hope that the rest of the game will show that while Miriam is indeed a blonde with anger issues, she has more depth that sets her apart from the Muppet in question.

Also, the elements clashing was very much on purpose. I feel like it gives a very strange and possibly unnerving vibe to everything.

Is it me or does this review come off as being unfinished?
Even if she was, how is that a bad thing again? Miss Piggy is awesome, capable, powerful and don't need no man (she doesn't need him, doesn't mean she don't want him though). I mean, she took over a goddamn cannibalistic tribe and had them thinking she was a goddess quite easily, so... She's a good person to model after. Woman has a lot more going for her than blonde hair and anger issues.

...don't get me started on how Miss Piggy is awesome. XD

It is not usually difficult for a goddess to convince people she is a goddess. :3

Also Miriam is like 10x more redneck than Miss Piggy ever was. :V
Miss Piggy is a goddamn capital-L Lady. XD
