STORY
Melrose Kronholm is having her twelfth birthday. Exactly one year ago, this is the day when her stepmother and half-brother perished in a house fire, while Melrose barely escaped. With her new life, Melrose has tried forgetting about the physical and mental scars of her past. All of that changes when Melrose makes a detrimental discovery--her stepmother's journal, titled "The Doctrine of Perseverance." This leads her into the mysterious world of the Nox where she has to unravel the secrets of the cursed mansion that burnt to the ground.

CHARACTERS
Melrose Kronholm
A young yet maturing girl. Melrose has had to grow up quick in her adolescent life. Often quiet at her previous residence but now more than lively with her new family. Her new life with her godfather has given her a new-found confidence.
Suzetta Fernelius
Melrose's best friend and godfather's adopted daughter. She's more mature than the average person her age and acts like the oldest child between her, Melrose, and Silas.
Silas Fernelius
Dace's oldest adopted child. Silas finds peace in solitude but still is a popular kid at his school amongst his own group of friends. However, he enjoys his time with his family and is quite fond of teasing his relatives.

Heyo! It's been a while since I've last posted on rmn for TDOP, but here I have some of the updated portraits for Melrose.

I'm gonna eventually change the text, but I still think it's quite an improvement in game.
I also casted all of the characters needed in voice acting call on tumblr. I'm very happy with all of the VAs. TDOP is changing so much, it's very exciting!

The demo (which will include the prologue and chapter one) will be released in January! It should have about an hour of gameplay or so~!

so your father cares about you but knows you're being treated poorly and yet doesn't go to the authority's about it???
the credits are supposed to be at the end of the game!

Well crap xD. I wrote in the descriptions (outside of the game) about who is who but didn't quite elaborate this in the game. Lafayette (boys name) is Melrose's half brother.
Melrose isn't necessarily being treated horribly, it's just that she doesn't like Josephine. Their relationship gets worse as the years go on. This wasn't clear in-game which probably left you confused (and rightfully so) so I'm just going to tweak some scenes! Also Josephine is Melroses's stepmother.
As for the adoption papers--Dace adopted Melrose, Suzetta, and Silas. (not necessarily as the same time.) Dace is also Melrose's godfather. I put that in the description, but it's probably not quite elaborated in game so I'll make that more clear.

Okay, now I've tried everything.
I download the file, I unpack it, I click the game exe and... nothing.
The game refuses to start even when I run it as administrator and despite me telling my comp to trust this program.
I'm running it on a Windows 8 laptop but I have been able to run tons of other RPG maker games so this really makes no sense to me.

First off, I'm sorry that you're having issues with the game! When I get home I'll take a look at the file to see if I packaged it wrong or if it's something with the game itself (probably the latter).

Okay, so I took a look at it and it's running fine for me. Do you have VX Ace RTP? If you don't you can download it here. If you do, try downloading the font in the font folder. I know it requires it in game so that might be why it's not opening.

Tried again, installing all the fonts and it won't start at all.
Have no idea if it is my comp fucking it up or not (that is a high possibility) but it is a tad weird that I've installed other RPG maker games around the same days as this one but this is the only one that simply freezes my entire "window" where the game files are located and nothing happens.

Not at all! Let's Plays are 100% allowed (even monetized videos), however, I do ask that you put a link back to the game or at least the tumblr homepage. :)
