Story

The city of Noxton takes its name from one of the eight founding families, the Noxton family. Renowned publicly for their contributions to the city, privately, they are linked to the mysterious 'Drift.' Tragedy strikes the family on Melrose Noxton’s thirteenth birthday, marked by a horrific house fire following the appearance of the titular doctrine in the guesthouse. Three years later, the mystery remains unsolved, and life seemingly moves on, but not for Melrose – she remembers everything.

This story unfolds on Melrose’s sixteenth birthday, where you will uncover the inescapable horrors of the doctrine, unravel the secrets of the Noxton family, and confront the spirits of the 'Drift' that relentlessly seek to butcher anyone in their path. Happy Birthday, Melrose.

Main Characters

Melrose

An old soul and reserved girl. Her birthday serves as a haunting reminder of the house fire and acts as the catalyst for the story.

Suzetta

A mischievous girl with a cheerful exterior. She is a close friend of Melrose and Dace’s daughter.

Silas

An unfiltered and hot-headed boy. His family harbors distrust towards the ‘founding families' in the city of Noxton.

Milton

A well-mannered and intelligent boy, slated to be the next head of the Noxton family. He is the son of Josie and Klaas, and also Melrose’s cousin.

Vernon

An introverted and inquisitive boy. He is Melrose’s childhood friend and is from another founding family, the Skallow family.

Josie

A calm and warmhearted woman. She is Melrose's aunt and Milton's mom. Her and Florence were in a state of no contact for years prior to the fire.

Dace

A composed and educated man, he is Suzetta's dad and a long-time close friend of Florence before the fire. He works for the Noxton Police Department.

Perry

A brisk and 'rough around the edges' kind of man, he is the current head of the Noxton family and the uncle of Melrose and Milton.

Klaas

A diligent and zestful man, he is Milton's dad and works for the Noxton Police Department.

Bios and artwork are subject to change before the final release of the game, and this post may be updated.

This looks like it's going to be really fun. ^^
Oh it's okay.
I'm a fairly certain that it is something with Windows 8 and this laptop that is screwing it up so to speak.
I'll try to look into it more, I don't think there is something wrong with it on your side frankly o,o'

I actually tried looking it up (game.exe not running) and got a variety of results, but not many were similar to your situation. :/

Good luck though! :)

Not at all! Let's Plays are 100% allowed (even monetized videos), however, I do ask that you put a link back to the game or at least the tumblr homepage. :)

I'll place a link to here and your tumblr page within the description of the video(s). ^_^

Other games of this genre don't allow monetising, so I just do it as a rule not to monetise. (I only do YouTube as a hobby, 0% financial profit). :)

Alright! That's totally fine. Just make sure you link the game homepage which is here. I'll make sure to watch your video as well! (I'm always interested in what people have to say.)

Gave this a short try. Mostly to see if I could produce the same error/crash that TheCrimsonValley is experiencing. Unfortunately, I could not. Getting past the first room...

...at this point, I'm almost positive that the "We see" sign and the clues in that room relate to getting out of there (ie: check the roses, then check the presents, then the door, then the presents twice, then... the "We see" sign?). So far, no success. I was able to find the Pocket Knife (which plays an error sound when trying to select it), and the Glue (which seems to be usable, but I don't see/notice anything happening).

*Edit: Another thing I'm noticing is that Shift is used as both a fast-forward button for text display and character movement. I largely suspect the use of Yanfly's messaging system for the former. In which case, I would suggest a different button to fast-forward text messages. I use Control, but, if you want a different button (such as one that's on the virtual gamepad), I could probably find the reference for you.

Here's how you solve that:
If you check the other items around the room you will notice that there are directions. The clock is on the north wall. "WE SEE" isn't only a message, but directions too. ;)

I didn't even know that was even a thing! I'll change it to control (making it run like a visual novel).

I noted the "N" on the clock, the "W" on the roses (or was it the letter next to the roses?), the "E" on the presents, and the "S" on the door. That's why I figured the combination to get out probably involved checking the roses ("W"), the presents ("E"), the door ("S"), then the presents twice ("E", "E").

Then, you'd replace...

TEXT_SKIP = :A     # Input::A is the shift button on keyboard.

with...

TEXT_SKIP = Input::CTRL

...though, I've been known to retain original programming, so, mine looks more like...

#TEXT_SKIP = :A     # Input::A is the shift button on keyboard.
TEXT_SKIP = Input::CTRL

...that. That's just my insanity, though.

Oh, okay! In order to complete the puzzle you need to take the directions from we see starting from the writing on the wall.

Also thanks for telling me how to change the text scroll! I probably would've just put CTRL in and would've been confused as to why it wasn't working. C:
I'm glad to find your game around here, good work, and beautiful art.
The best of luck.

Cole back here aka TheCrimsonValley!
First things first: I can now play the demo! My suspicion is that windows updated, screwing up my comp and now that it has updated again it has straighten it out.
Second things second: I now have a question. After the dinner when Suzette speaks to herself and then leaves the room my screen goes black and... nothing. I wait for a really long time but nothing happens and the game has not frozen in and on itself so I'm just wondering, is something supposed to happen? or is that just the end of the demo and I just have to close it down without being returned to the menu?

Yes, unfortunately that is a known bug that I addressed in this blog.

You'll just have to reload the game either from your save or from the beginning (if you didn't save). Sorry about that :(

Unfortunately this is a bug I learned about awhile ago and fixed in the file, however, have not uploaded the fixed version. I plan to do a 100% mastered demo version which will be released in a couple of days. Sorry about that! :/
