Update 11/23

Heyo! It’s been such a long time since I’ve done a progress update! Well, alas tis here! However, there are a few things I need to discuss before I can carry on and that’s the screenshot issue.

I’m sure you guys are probably like “???” reading that, but I do feel as if that I’ve been posting too many screenshots of TDOP. So I’m going to set a limit for two screenshots per half chapter. So in total, four overall. I’m not going to delete past screenshots, but I will post two remaining for the first half of TDOP. Speaking of which…

We have another nameless one! And some of them do have portraits and CGs. There is a particular nameless one in the first half of chapter one that is fairly prominent and… talkative? Hahaha.

Another thing I need to address is my schedule + TDOP. I’m not going to lie, the last few months I haven’t worked on TDOP much. That is mostly because I’m a college student and I work too. I feel like I should work on TDOP when I want to, and I shouldn’t just add content “jus cuz”. So development will be slow, but I am trying my best. I will say that I am going to try finishing the first half of chapter one by the end of January + have Suzetta’s part of chapter one fully written.

Anyways. Let’s talk about the new feature!

Collectibles! Collectible items are items that are found secretly throughout the game. Having certain collectible items will unlock certain areas/room in the bonus area/room. I plan for the bonus room to have three areas, with a character that’ll teleport you to each area. But who is that character?

Magnolia! Just in case if you missed this post, you can click on the link and you’ll get filled in. Of course this isn’t the final version of the bonus room, this is just something that is temporary.

As always, thank you for following the development of The Doctrine of Perseverance!

Good to see you working on this and adding new content Nedras. I have very high expectations and this looks great, good work!
Yo dude! Don't worry, I'm also a student and I can understand. However, I'll definetely play the demo of this, go on with the good work ;)
PS: Why do you think your game has too many screenshots? I think that if a game has many screenshots it's better, so you can see if you like the game or not through them!
Anyway, have a good day!

No worries about the schedule. Everyone should understand. Show me a game that's made quickly and I'll show you either a rushed, crappy game or a game made by some silver spoon brat who doesn't understand the work needed to make a good game. Either way, those games will be halfassed.

Games need resources needed: time and money.
Job = -time +money
Education = ---time ---money and then much later on -time +++money

As for screenshots, for a horror game I'd say few well-selected ones are best. For example, Alison Door had a fantastic screenshot selection. Lots of screenshots reveal too much. The absolute worst thing that can happen with horror game screenshots is that a player's familiarity overtakes their anticipation.

As for collectibles and unlockables, this is NEVER a bad thing. One of Dragnfly's rules of gaming states "players love to climb, they love to collect things, they love to double jump".

"As always, thank you for following the development of The Doctrine of Perseverance!" darn Youtube. I always hear lines like this like they're being read by Yanderedev.

Thank you, you'll have to let me know what you think of it! And I feel like too many screenshots can give away to many areas. Like, I want to limit them to people can have that feeling of exploring new places instead of being like "Oh, yeah, I saw this on tumblr or rpgmaker.net." You have a great day as well! :)

Haha, yeah! I might try to do the new game plus script so you won't have to repick everything up. Maybe. Hmmm.
