The Future of The Doctrine of Perseverance

Hey guys! I know I haven’t updated much in awhile so I suppose that is why I am going to be writing this segment here on this blog. I deeply care for this project and want to make it the best it can be, especially for my first game.

To start off, I’ve been working very hard on Chapter one. I do realize that I am taking a while to work on it, and I apologize if this inconveniences anyone. I’m not sure what I should post on this blog as of now because I don’t want to spoil much as I feel like I’ve shown way too many of the maps. Maybe I’ll do some sort of puzzles or something on the blog.

Secondly, I am going to redo the designs for Melrose, Suzetta, Silas, Nodoka, and most likely a couple of more characters. I’m going to redo the art as well because I’ve definitely improved a lot from 2015 and the graphics can be improved heavily. As for the designs, I’m going to redo them because most of them were design in a way to match the looseleaf generator and didn’t have anything to make them unique or interesting. Of course they’ll still keep their original face, they’ll just have different clothing. All of the portraits will probably be redone to give the game a more polished look. This is also why I want to push back the art contest a bit more.

Putting that aside, there is going to be another release of demo but that’ll be wayyyy ahead in the future. Here are some things that I do want to change that were already revealed in the demo (some of these are already mentioned):

  • Dace’s house redesigned. A collectible item will be placed somewhere in the beginning. There will also be more “secrets” or details to find more about the lore.

  • Main characters redesigned.

  • New and improved portraits.

  • Intro credit pictures will be redesigned and will list the voice actors instead of having a super long list that I can’t fit on the screen.

  • I may or may not redesign the first room.

  • Splash screen and some sort of introduction for Magnolia.

  • I’m thinking about commissioning a custom theme for the game. Something that captures the essence of the game.

  • A scene that’ll actually let you know when the demo ends. (I know a couple of people got confused with that at first.)

  • Pieces of the lore scattered about.

  • Maybe a CG at the dinner scene? Hard to say.

  • Possibly more voices.


When I do release the next version of the demo it’s most likely going to be released a couple of months before the final release. To say when that is going to happen, well… that’s ways away. That’s all I have to say for now, if I think of anything else to add then I’ll just edit this post. Thank you following the development of The Doctrine of Perseverance.

Really looking forward to the improved art. The current art is fine but if you say you've improved, naturally that'd be best. Also it's pretty much a given that better art = more downloads. Your reasoning with how it was to work with the generator reminds me of some old characters that I had to design-down because, at the time, 3D models wouldn't have handled all the detail LOL

Secrets are good. Lore is good.

For a custom theme, do you have a good local music scene? It may save you a lot of money.

Proper demo end = good

I really like those new hair ribbons. The expression changes are pretty phenomenal too.
