Races in Shaola

Most monsters and races other than Human have been wiped out by human warriors and the Human Supremacy Alliance (HSA). The only humanoid races that survive include the Elf, Dwarf and Orc.

I. Elves are well-known for their grace and mastery of magic and weapons such as the sword and bow. They are famously long-lived, capable of living much longer than the average human.

Slightly smaller and shorter than the average human, elves tend to be quicker, faster, slender and graceful, this is reflected in a bonus to Agility and a penalty to Physical Defense.

The Elves were divided into two basic groups: the Wood Elf and the High Elf.

Wood Elves are a reclusive race, preferring to the old ways of life in the forests and jungles. They are conservatives who preferring old habitats in tropical woods. They are hiding and staying far away from human. Trees are their friends and wild beasts are their main source of food.

The Wood Elves have been producing some of the finest hunters, archers and bowmen. The majority of them have been living in Greendom.

The High Elves were once members of the Wood Elves, the original group of elves. They are liberals who decided to go live in the cities with human. Other races commonly encounter them. They are the most open and friendly of their kind. They believe in peaceful co-existences. They travel to everywhere, while Wood Elves stay in the woods.

The decision of the High Elves to leave the woods always has been controversial. Some of them have found success and happiness in serving human, even in the local government or Imperial Court. Some of them having a great career as bounty hunters or mercenaries. However, others have been miserable, suffering from depression and having to endure unemployment and hunger. Some have sold themselves to the slave owners. Others have been forced into slavery.

The High Elves have been producing some of the best swordsmen in the land.

Overall, the Elves are the largest minority community in the world.

II. Dwarves are very short, but are wise and have great strength. They dwell in mountain and in the earth, and are good at smithing and mining. They are the second largest minority community.

Dwarves tend to be miners. They have a natural fascination with minerals (especially iron and gold) and feel more comfortable underground. They are much shorter and stockier than Men, Elves and Orcs. They able to withstand both heat and cold and have a longer average lifespan than the average human.

They are great metalworkers, smiths and stoneworkers. Fierce in battle, their primary weapons are hammers and have produced a lot of great axemen, but they also use many types of weapons, including large crossbows, broadswords, falchions, pikes, slingshots and shields. Dwarves live in anywhere that has mountains, mines and minerals.

Dwarves don’t need to sleep as much as human do. They are diligent, hardworking and work in the mines through days and nights. All they need is a few hours of resting. Consequently, dwarves are unaffected by sleep-inducing magic and effects.

While Men, Elves and Orcs generally hate each other, the Dwarves have stayed neutral. Their ultimate goal is to find their traditional ally, the Snow Palace on the Snow Mountain, a hidden and mysterious place that no one has discovered. According to ancient books, the Snow Palace are the Dwarves most trustworthy, reliable and closest ally from thousands of years ago.

"The Boss", leader of The Luxia, the world's largest international underground criminal organization.

III. Orcs basically are a large group of bully. They are the third largest race of humanoid creatures, behind the Elves and the Dwarves.

They are brutish, aggressive, repulsive and generally malevolent species and generally pressed into the service of some evil powers. They are tall, big and strong who are used as soldiers, slaves and henchmen by the greater villains.

They are miserable beings, hating everyone, including themselves and their masters, whom they serve out of fear. They make no positive things, but rather invent cunning devices made to hurt and destroy.

The majority of the Orcs have been led by "Murlock, the Slaughterer", a legendary leader and the Orc's greatest fighter of all time. He has claimed to unite all the Orcs and fight for their freedom. He called for fellow Orcs to revolt and kill all their masters. He has even bigger ambitions to unite all minorities (Orcs, Elves, Dwarves, other monsters and demons) and declared war against the human.

Murlock and majority of the Orcs reside in Amazail.

1. Your grammar, esp. times and irregular verbs, is terrible. If your are no native English speaker or just weak in it, send me a link with a (x)doc or (x)xls with your texts as PM, so I could correct them (if you are German then in German). Don't use a translator program - that would make it even worse.
2. There was a transfer error in the woods (before you got to the "maze" with the slime monsters). You couldn't go back to the beginning but are transferred up to the transfer point to the man eating flowers.
3. The doors some of the houses I found only by accident - you should mention to examine houses without doors from the back.
4. There`s a passability error on the map with the orcs. By the trees you can walk left on the wall and find the two golden token without using the vines. There are more but I didn't testplay it and this is the only one crashing with your experience sheme.
5. The Orcs and the group of wolfes are far too strong for two fighters and only one making damage. I managed to kill them but only with Great Wall and many mana potions. Saving is necessary.
6. Why is the last shaopoint only reachable through climbing?

There wasn't a major bug, but after the last quest from the fairy you don't know that you have to leave the crystal world.
{Sometime a hero can create circumstances. Sometime circumstances can create a hero. He keeps on growing up, learns, improves, matures and stronger over time... ]

Sometimes a hero can create circumstances. Sometimes circumstances can create a hero. He will be learning, improving, maturing and becoming stronger as he is growing up to the task.

Thanks for your great input.

Yup, our team has 4 people, 2 Vietnamese American and 2 Vietnamese who are living in Vietnam and never experience English. Basic concepts of the 2 languages are very different. So, we have some trouble with it.

I love your offer to correct the text but it would be too much for you, since this is probably just 5% of the game with a bunch of text. I mean, we could ask you or our friends or classmates who is good at English for some corrections, but I don't think this practice would work long term because we probably mess up the future texts, too, if we don't understand the concept.

I think it would be a big help if you point out and explain a little bit on some blatant errors that you remember, or you can point out some errors from the screenshots that I uploaded. Most screenshots have dialogues in it.

That way, we can Google it and look further into it, and prevent the same errors in the future.

I'll fix those transfer and passability bugs, thanks.

I think it's a bit odd and unrealistic to have all houses have the same doors in the same direction. It should be in different direction, just in real life.

In Paula Village, I thought we gave good clues for the common players to suspect that the houses that have door from the north direction can be accessible. (The road tiles in front of the door)

5. The Orcs and the group of wolfes are far too strong for two fighters and only one making damage. I managed to kill them but only with Great Wall and many mana potions. Saving is necessary.

It's a good idea to put the Shaopoint there. But I think the common players during that time should have enough Save Tools already. The battles is not that hard if you let Eli attack with a good sword and Naomi casting Great Wall and using gadgets (scrolls, bombs, firecrackers etc.). I think you should have enough gold to buy those stuff in the shop. Make sure you go to the shop first before you leave town. Mr. Lee and Mrs. Lee sell different things.

6. Why is the last shaopoint only reachable through climbing?

That is Jason idea, 1 of my teammate who's working with the engine. I don't know, I think he wants to make it harder for players. :D The main character need at least 50 Strength points to climb the vines.

There wasn't a major bug, but after the last quest from the fairy you don't know that you have to leave the crystal world.

Well, I thought that after the tutorial is done, the obvious thing to do is to leave the place. I think you have a good point here in that there will be clearer instruction for the players. But I really don't want the game turns into a "follow instructions" type of game like some J-RPGs. I wish for the common players to explore and find out things.

Thanks. I'll change it to this. It sounds much better.

For the love of humanity! can we get a game that has GOOD grammar!?

the way the kid talks is unbearably retarded and unrealistic.
how old is he? i have talked with 3 year olds with more intelligence ...he asks his uncle who is behind a wall some distance away looking in the opposite direction if he saw something...this is ridiculous!

G 2M Dropped

No...just no...this is the kind of thing that lowers your iq by experiencing it for too long.

Well, I guess the reply to Firefly84 was not enough to satisfy the demands of shayoko, but we've seen her rants in the past :)

They did not grow up with Engish as a language, but do have the right to post a game if they own and enjoy RPG Ace. I suppose if I did not enjoy their game, I would just download a different game..... :)
Just played your updated demo. This time I found a secret way I missed the last time and robbed the gangster (hehe).
I overlooked your grammar but you forgot this transfer error:

There is 1 more on the other side, too. :D When you see anything suspicious just go check it out.

My 1st RPG I have ever played is Zelda. It's get me into RPG. And Zelda has a lot of secret places. I'm inspired from them and hopefully implement successfully some of its great concepts into these games.

As this game when by, it's probably better long-term if you just buying from the gangster instead of robbing him. He sells a lot of goodies for 1/2 - 1/5 of the normal price. You'll save a lot of gold. Robbing him got you some goodies but it's 1-and-done. The experience pts you got for beating him up doesn't worth it.

I wasn't designing that forest, I'm not sure. I looked at it after your 1st post but it seems like I couldn't get to the next part of the forest if I change the transfer events so that the players can go back.

The point here is we plan to mixed up the transfer destination to make you confuse. :D It's a lost forest after all. I don't know if they want for it go be "no going back" or what. I'll ask them out. I checked the transfer player events in that map, it's a lot of unpredictable mix up with no logic at all. Seems like some random mix.
The secret passage I found was opposite of the ganster. I robbed him now just to see what will happen.
As for the forest a warning that you can't go back before you reach this part of the forest will be good in case the players haven't searched the other exits yet.

In the village are so many trees to kick and so few reward...
Is it intented that the two chest on the wall in crystal world refill?

Waiting for more...

I think you have 2 good ideas here. I'll try to balance it out a bit more with some small rewards on those trees.

The treasure chests in the crystal supposed to be a bug. Since the player can't possibly reached the chests from the ground. I fixed it by moving it but forget about the other map, lol. Everything you see in the crystal is actually made of 3 separate maps.
Cute game, cute demo, cute characters, everything is cute. :p ;) 8) :D
I've played both of the shaola's demos. I like the story and characters. Fun gameplay. However the images on the blog post doesn't match the in game graphic.
