Announcement

Veritas cancelled.

My first game I submitted to this site is now officially cancelled.

Something happened the other day. I have two computers, a big one and a lil' one. The lil' one, a laptop, is fine. On the laptop, I have all of my RPG Maker VX Ace titles. On my big computer, a desktop, I had my RPG Maker MV titles. The screen resolution is nice and big and allows me to put in a lot of work in its pixel art. Unfortunately, the big one had a hard drive failure, and I had to do a complete reformat and restore in order to get it working again.

Now thankfully I had several games backed up, so I still have data to pull from in case I ever return to developing. However, this was one of the games that was lost.

I didn't back up Veritas, and I think a part of the reason is that I was never particularly proud of it. The gameplay was lackluster, I overreached for an epic saga without a valid scope, and eventually the project entered the graveyard, never to be heard from again. It was my first project. I hadn't yet learned how to make pixel art, so there was no custom artwork. I hadn't read a single article or played other combat-focused RPG Maker games, so the gameplay left a lot to be desired. I did have custom music, and I'm still happy with it, but there's far better music out there I'd use in the future (Newgrounds has a surprisingly large number of great tracks for games, some of which are non-commercially licensed).

I haven't been around lately, and I don't think I have any time to return to game development, but I thought it would only be fair to mention that this game is cancelled, for the few people who may have had their eye on it.

To those who were subscribed and looking forward to the complete game: I'm sorry, it's gone. At least there's a demo that will remain on this page.

Progress Report

Listen to some of this music!

Production is going smoothly in Veritas, and I'm getting a lot of the main game fleshed out. If all keeps up, that November release will be golden!

As you know, one of the big features I've been working on is completely custom music. Because of that, I went ahead and uploaded some videos of the various battle themes in the game. Two of these videos have tracks available in the demo, while one of the videos has a boss battle theme from the main game.

Composers are myself and SteinmannMusic, who created the Main Battle Theme for this game!

Subscribe to keep up with the latest on this project! Everything's going smoothly, and I'll add more information along the way. And play the demo if you haven't already!

BIG Improvements! (Also Demo version 2)

Got some big things going on in Veritas!

1. Improved Maps!

Since the game now has a much larger resolution, this calls for much larger maps! I've been going through the maps and updating the tiny maps, which may have been fitting for the smaller resolution, and making them, well, much more impressive because there's a whole lot more screen to cover! Hidden below is the old image of this realm. But directly beneath that, the new and improved!

Much better! Don't ask me how long it took me to craft this.

Who would have thought mapping would be so time consuming? But, in the end, it will be worth it. I want this game to be memorable, so I'm willing to put as much time as possible into this world for you to enjoy. Speaking of this game's world, there's a very important feature that is now available which affects the game's atmosphere...

2. ORIGINAL MUSICAL SCORE!

Along with this comes the additional musical talents of SteinmannMusic who has crafted the main battle theme of this game. More of his music will be available in the main game! I have also added my own musical efforts to the game. I kid you not: when this game is complete, all of the music will be fully customized!

And if you want a taste of it, look no further that...

3. DEMO VERSION 2 released!

The big one! I went straight to version 2 because a lot has been changed. Good changes! The demo now uses all new scripts from Yanfly, I've dropped the RTP title picture and made one of my own, and of course, a new original musical score! Check out the new demo! Let me know what you think. Production is underway and there's a lot more to share about Veritas!

Veritas Production update!

Hello!

I thought I'd take a minute to share with you some of the updates coming to Veritas. As you know the demo is in version 1.1. Since then, some changes have taken place: good ones! The battle system has been tweaked and improved, and the game's production has continued. I'm still in the early stages of the full game production, but here's some things you can look forward to!

(Image from the full game in production. Not included in the demo.)

1. Fully custom music! Also working to collaborate with another musician on this site!
2. Some custom artwork. As you can tell from one of the images, as well as the title screen, some custom artwork has been added! This is, of course, very difficult for me to do, seeing as I'm not a digital artist, but rest assured there will be some bits and pieces of unique artwork added throughout the game: and possibly more!
3. The same battle system, but reworked! It will still use the default MV side-view battle system for now, but the numbers have all been tightened up. In other words, the surface will be the side-view MV you are familiar with, but I'm tightening up the math. This means that every number will make sense to the player: instead of bombarding the player with giant stat values, they will be streamlined to allow for better comprehension. The bulk of this rework has been included in demo version 1.1, but there are more improvements to come! I want to produce a simple yet tightly-knit battle system that is both accessible, simple to use and allows for player creativity in battle.

Some new images have been added to showcase some of the different areas in the full game.

Be sure to download Demo version 1.1 and leave feedback! There will e more updates to come as the story continues! Also keep an eye-out for a new demo reworked some time in the near future.

Thanks for reading!

Walkthrough now available!

The Walkthrough for the Veritas Game Demo is now available!

The Emerald City is not a very kind place for its inhabitants! Having a little trouble navigating the headquarters? Deimos' men getting you down? Some bosses proving a little too difficult? Well don't worry!

With this walkthrough, available at the top of the game page under "Veritas Game Demo Walkthrough," you'll be able to find out recommended strategies for the boss fights, as well as find all of the items in the environment! Also, you may get some hints towards both the super secret bonus item, and the even more rare, hidden cutscene, which I know you haven't found yet (and if you have found it, send me a screenshot of it in a message!).

Be sure to download version 1.1 if you haven't gotten it yet: it's the entire game demo reworked with plenty of bugs and errors corrected. Also, you can see the notes for version 1.1 in another blog entry on this page.

Hope you're enjoying the game! The story will continue soon.

Version 1.1 released!

Version 1.1 of the Veritas Game Demo has successfully released! You can view the full notes of the release over on the download screen. This is not just a patch, this is the entirety of the game in the new version. You should be able to copy your save files over to it, though I haven't been able to experiment with that. Let me know if the game gives you any problems!

A variety of typos have been corrected, and some other humorous things, such as Chelsea have a huge smile on her face when receiving grim news. Care, bless his heart, will now no longer offer to throw you for no good reason. Also, the books in the bookshelves are no longer boring to read! They all contain a short story concerning the subject they refer to.

I encourage you to download the latest demo and give it a shot if you haven't beaten it already! If you have, well, give it a second go! I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I do.

Upcoming Features!
- Production for Veritas has resumed! May be requesting beta testers soon!
- Possibly getting some original music from a great music creator to add to the game!
- Possible rework for the battle system. I feel it's a little over-tuned, and I may end up increasing all of the characters' mana pools respectively (Chelsea with the highest, Care with a moderate amount, Autumn with the lowest).
- Custom artwork? I don't have anything lined up, but I have been trying to experiment with something. No promises on this one.
- Possibly remapping the entire starting area to make it larger like the rest of the floors the player fights through.
- DEMO WALKTHROUGH COMING SOON! For those that are having trouble, I will be working on releasing a spoiler free walkthrough to those who may be having trouble with the enemies.

More to follow, please leave your comments and ideas below!

Successful launch of the demo!

The demo has successfully launched! I hope you all have enjoyed it so far. I intend to release a patched version correcting some of the mistakes I found on it (there's always something).

Enjoyed it? Were the enemies over-tuned or under-tuned? Positive feedback or negative feedback, I'm open to all!
