Short and classic s̶l̶a̶s̶h̶e̶r̶ ̶m̶o̶v̶i̶e̶ horror game

Hi! Today let's play a horror game and this game is called Turtle Head!

Time to complete? About 1 hour and 15/20 minutes (with the Truth Ending, that's also the best ending, and the other two would have taken less to complete, but hey, I am a completionist)

Turtle Head start with a classic premise: three students enter a school at night and suddenly weird things happen and they have to run for their lives. Oh no, they're trapped inside the building now! Will they be able to find an escape route before the serial killer will catch them? Let's find out...
In this game we play as Harriet, a silent protagonist (reeeally silent since has not a single dialogue line!) black haired girl. The two other protagonists are the green-haired Emma and a boy, Mason. We do not know much else about them.

The game plays a sort of hybrid adventure/survival horror: there are many puzzles and tasks like finding items and using them in the correct locations to earn keys and unlock doors, but there are also 3-4 parts in which you have to run from the serial killer and find a hinding place! Last chase is especially hard since you cannot open the menu to save, otherwise you can save anywhere and anytime. But that guy is so fast! Oh and no combat, if he catch you it's game over, baby!

A GUN! Yeah! No more fear of serial killers!

Game uses custom resources that are pretty good and well done (both charsets and facesets are quite good), and mapping is ok, since the school is pretty realistic for dimension and layout.
Music is from Undertale and Max Payne, but there isn't much to listen to. There are instead a lot of scary sounds and effects that create an effective horror atmosphere with sudden jumpscares and so on. Well done, especially for a "fake game over" that surprised me!
Puzzles are rather simple and easy, you just have to read, look around and use the logic. And there's also a lot more to read about the storyline and setting, that contribuites to flesh out the story.

Anything bad? Well most of the time there is a lot of walking around and unlocking new rooms, finding keys to unlock even more areas but there isn't much more beside this so except for some brilliant parts, there are some predictable moments.
Oh and there is a trap that will kill you if you fall into it... but except for this particular case most of the game is rather easy and linear.

Well, I am not that sure we want to enter that room!

Verdict
This is Turtle Head. A classic short horror (slasher film would be more accurate) rpgmaker game with some great parts and other mediocre situations and details. It's not a bad game, but it could surely benefit from a revision or a remake, anyway I am curious about the author's next works since this was a pretty good game amyway! It's onlly that some parts were exceptional and made others pale compared to them since the basis is a really classical slash movie story. It's simple, short but not bad, and the length is ok, even if last section drags a bit too much even if it contains some of the best parts (including the ending). So what? Not good enough for a 4, not bad to get a 3 (also no mapping errors or typos, or any kind of bug or problem with the game, and this is good!). I believe that the perfect rating for this game is 3.5/5

So this was Turtle Head!
Goodnight!

The game had music from Undertale??? I must have completely blocked that out of my memory, lmao

Also I really liked this game when I played it, I should revisit it at some point.

Yep. The 2nd building (of the 2nd half) uses the (Flowey's Theme) Nobody Came theme from Undertale. Quite appropriate, fits well the abandoned location.
