A Short Game About Getting Lost in the Woods

My playtime: 00:28:30 (before the last event)

Intro
An Evil Night is a dark adventure game about two people who got lost in the woods. You'll try to solve puzzles and dodge enemies along the way.

Music
The music sounds chilly and quiet which is perfect for its thriller theme. I can't really comment much about this but i can only say that it's good.

Graphics
Most of the sprites are using RTP assets. There are also some custom graphics for the cutscenes along the way which looks great.

In game cutscene. Looks promising, don't you think?

Story
The game is mostly focused on the story. I admit that i never heard anything about Lovecraft legends, and even if there is "If you like Lovecraft legends... you will enjoy this even more. ;)" statement in the Summary page, that shouldn't be a reason to make those who doesn't know to be confused. There are places that keep on being mentioned in the game which i don't really understand what is it and it gives me difficulty in understanding the story and a puzzle.

Because this game is mostly focused on the story, you'll get a series of cutscene along the way. Sadly, you can also get a game over screen when you answer it wrong and you'll be doomed if you forgot to save beforehand. Even if you did save, you have to go through the series of cutscenes again before you are on the "multiple choice" dialog. This also happens on the last part of the game which i believe has multiple endings. I ended up only finishing one ending because i don't feel like to go through the very long cutscene again.

The game
The game will start with a series of dialogues. To be honest, i'm not moving for a few seconds (or maybe minute?) after the dialogue ends because i didn't know that i already can move and was waiting for a new dialogue to pop out.

The map is mostly straightforward and you'll find "keys" that is almost impossible to miss before you end up in a series of puzzle locations. I don't really have any difficulties in solving the puzzles except the "light the area in the correct order" puzzle because the hints are about "Lovecraft legends" which confuses me. Luckily, there isn't much penalty in the puzzles so i can just try every combination until i find the right one.

The paths are mostly linear.

There is a jumpscare in this game and i honestly am surprised for the first one. The other jumpscares aren't as shocking as the first one though (and you won't find the jumpscare shocking moment if you're not being curious and exploring all the places anyway)- the game is not as scary as you think.

There are some enemies in the game and you can't do anything but running away from them- to make sure that they're not touching you. You'll get a game over when they touch you and it can be annoying if you keep on getting game over because the screen transition is very slow.

Pros:
- One shocking jumpscare
- Puzzles
- Multiple endings

Cons:
- Confusing "Lovecraft" references
- No checkpoint before story branching (especially for the one that leads to game over)
- Slow screen transition

Conclusion
This is a short adventure game where you solve puzzle and avoid enemies. You can play this if you know about "Lovecraft" legends, but don't play it if you don't know about it because it can confuse you.
