A Game About World Army

My playtime: 21.9h (based on steam, 21/21 achievements)

Intro
World In Danger is a top down shooter game that has ~3 game modes: kill all enemies, rescue people (or anything non combat that requires stealth), and kill the boss. The game has 16 levels in total, each with some cutscenes before and after the level starts.

Music
I don't really remember much about the bgm in the main menu except that it being low, but i love the one that's played after you finish a mission. I also love the voice overs in the game; i love how the bosses have their own voice and talk a lot during battle. The gun sound doesn't sound weird at all, except for one "weapon" unicorn that's has quite a sharp sound - i even have to mute my sound in order to play.

Graphics
The graphics look like old games. There wasn't anything special with the graphics except that there are a lot of cutscenes with different graphics (especially the cool looking action graphics) in it. I'm sure that the devs have put on a lot of effort in making them (and they also look cool).

Story
I was quite surprised that despite the game is divided into different levels, most of the levels connect with each other and creates a bigger story out of it. One of the level is also divided into two levels because they consists of two different missions. The story itself is very well thought; they even look like a non indie game material. I also love the dialogue and interaction between characters, especially on one level (Under Siege 2) where there are a lot of different dialogues based on which character you choose. Sadly, you can't fast forward the dialogues and there's no confirmation button in the dialogues to make them faster so you either have to see it or skip it. If you're a slow reader, you can always use space to pause it.

Great.

Also, i have to point out that there are a lot of grammatical errors in the prologue. Some text mission are also out of the box (or almost out of the box). One example is in the description of 4th mission.

The game
As i said before, the game has 16 different levels. Each level will have its own separate objectives, but it can be summarized into three objectives: kill all enemies, rescue people, and kill the boss. The first and the last one is quite easy to do since you just need to shoot your gun into anyone you see, but it might be hard to do the rescuing, especially if you're aiming for S rank. Somehow, i played the game in low fps so it can take hours just to finish one non killing level in S rank because i the game want me to finish the level unseen.

Speaking of ranks, you'll be ranked based on your performance after you finish a stage. I forgot what's the lowest rank is, but the highest rank is S. The game has different difficulty mode from easy, medium, hard, to challenge mode and you can only get the highest rank in challenge mode since the rank will be capped to certain ranks in other modes. The easier mode will have weaker enemies with lower hp and attack power.

To kill or not to kill.

The enemies will have a vision range just like the one in any stealth game, and you'll be noticed by them if you are in the range (or close to them, in challenge mode). They might call their allies if you're seen, which might make it easier if you have to kill all enemies.

There are 4 main playable characters with dozens of additional weaker playable characters that you can play, which will be unlocked on certain missions. Actually, I don't really think that all of these playable characters are necessary (and they can be very grindy if you want to get an achievement) although there's one character (Mole) that's quite good in my opinion since she can kill enemies in one hit.

There are 8 bosses in the game, 7 which you have to kill. All of the bosses are unique with their own patterns and you'll have to find different strategy to kill each bosses. After you finish the story mode, you can fight all of the boses in Boss Attack Mode. This feature has normal and ironhard mode, in which you won't have your health and ammo recovered in ironhard mode. The bosses are very easy to beat though; i think that they're on easy mode, even if you play in ironhard mode.

I almost got fooled.

The game offers two shooting mode; automatic and manual. You have to aim yourself in manual mode, while the automatic will let you shoot to the nearest enemies. This is quite useful if you're having trouble with the manual aim. It might not work on some bosses though. You can change this in the setting menu.

Speaking of setting menu, the menu animation (and almost all animations, including when you die and finish a level), is very slow. It took me minutes just to restart a level because of this.

There is also free roam mode where you can go to your base and talk to other people. The good thing is that your base will be upgraded as you complete more levels.

Lastly, the game also offers a "Quick Game" feature where you can create a custom match.

Pros:
- 16 levels
- 8 unique bosses
- 4 + a lot of playable characters
- 4 difficulty mode

Cons:
- Slow animation
- Unable to fast forward dialogues

Conclusion
This is a top shooter game where you have to finish a certain objective in order to clear the level. There are 16 levels in total, with 8 unique boss levels.

ps: The last cutscene is very cool. I didn't expect that it'll be in 3D. It's also very well made, although some animations look weird (especially Aoi hands when she's typing) and the mouth that's not moving when talking.
