The Fable of Gretel is a short 8bit style action game a la The Legend of Zelda. It was originally made in Italian in 2010 for a fable-themed contest on rpg2s.net, where it reached second place. A really minimalistic game, it doesn't take more than a hour to beat. It was a labour of love, and I'm still proud of it after all these years. It has been reworked, and finally translated in English.

Join Hansel and Gretel, unlucky siblings in Fable Land, in their misadventures through forsaken woods, green monsters and odd beasts, all with the help of four items! And I say FOUR!
It's an action game, so expect lots of sword fighting, or, more accurately, running from monsters. It's also chock full of cryptic puzzles, and by "chock full" I mean "there are some". It's still a short game. Also, it's kind of a love letter to the Legend of Zelda series (as you probably already guessed), to whom you'll find lots of shout out, some much more blatant than others.

Characters:

Hansel: A boy with hot boiling blood, Hansel is aggressive in words and sword alike. His attacks are more dangerous, but he is also frailer than his sister.

Gretel: A girl wise beyond her years, Gretel is usually the one with a plan. She is more patient than her brother, and always on the defensive.

Credits:
Xfixium, for his Zelda tutorials;
Mercury, for the artwork , the betatesting and the endless bickering on that awful puzzle that shall not be named;
Freank, for pushing me into translating the game;
the rpg2s.net community, for thinking "ok, that's nice".

Hmm...strange. The games events seem to be very tight-knit. I wouldn't know where to start either. I would guess it's a common event or a parallel event that's causing the character to stop. It's nothing too bad. As I said, it's a solid game for 2k3. Links Awakening is also my favorite 2D Zelda so bonus points for that. Anyway, good luck on your other game!

I've experienced that error as well during my Let's Play. Oddly enough the animation for clearing the bush will go off, but another bush appears to be underneath the first.

There are some bugs in the blue temple place where I hit a bush and I froze but other than that it's really cool.

Aaaand, I knew it. I've tried everything with this bug to no avail... as I've written in the readme, it has never occured to me. I honestly don't know what to do.
