"The locket beats hard against my chest.
It's one of the only things I have left of him.

My lover was pulled from my arms by these men.
And now, I have sharpened my sword, and stepped
into that place that I used to call home.

They will meet their end at my blade, all of them.
They will pay for their sins.
I am his vengeance, I am his wrath.
Swiftly will I move, sparing no one
the edge of my sword.

When the halls of that place fall silent,
my mission will be complete.
And he will be avenged."

Revenge of the Fallen, released!

Revenge of the Fallen has officially been released!

I hope you all enjoy it! This has been an exciting trip for me (Gredge109), as I haven't used RPG Maker XP since... maybe the first year of its release. So there was a lot of learning I had to do - both what XP can and cannot do - but I feel it all got tied together in the end.

A few things to note about the game, if you wish to view. It may spoil some of the mechanics, so if you want to be surprised, don't read it! For those of you who are interested in some info on the mechanics in this game, take a look.

This game is challenging. It is no walk in the park. I recommend saving everywhere, and keeping more than one save file.
The battles are short and brutal. They are intense and won't last long.
Your hero is both powerful and vulnerable. You are stronger than your enemies, but they won't hesitate to do you in.
There are no recovery areas, there are no inns or towns. You will procure your items from the field.
Make good use of your skills. Your skill points, known as ST, are recharged after every battle. Use your skills early and often.
You will level up quite a bit. Be sure to keep an eye on new skills, as they will come in handy.
Stay out of site and do what you can to gain initiative.
Backstabbing an enemy can be done by running into them while they aren't looking. Beware, this isn't always easy, and some enemies cannot be backstabbed.

Finally, this game does not come with the RTP. I strongly recommend downloading the RPG Maker XP RTP first. The RTP is free and can be found through a very quick google search.

Enjoy!

Yeah, me too! I hope I did your first half justice! Totally would have loved to have added the kazoos, though.

Someone is seriously questioning why a game has a small filesize like it's an issue?

This is a first.

-------------

That aside, it's probably because the game is compressed well/not very long?

I just finished playing this. You handled the second half fantastically imo, especially in how you introduced the sound mechanic. The elite guard could've maybe allowed for some forgiveness, your timing probably needs to be spot-on in order to sneak on them, but otherwise I REALLY LIKED the direction you took the game from my bit.

So far this is also one of the few games from the event that flows so well, that it actually feels like one person made it instead of two, so kudos to you for adapting your second half so well!

Wow, this was really well put together! I love the idea of singling out enemies one by one instead of rushing the entire group. I agree with Ratty that this felt like a single developer was behind this one. I THINK I may know where the game changed hands, but that's more due to the scene ending on what reads like a cliffhanger.

I got creamed in the beginning because about a fourth of my attacks missed, and I didn't have enough healing potions to get me past the first 4 enemy fight, but that was the only time I lost.

Also, it wasn't very fair to place a creaking floor where I couldn't see it:
I thought
I was being clever by moving around the floor just above my character's head, but I guess not.

Overall, though, excellent work on this, both of you!

Thanks, Red! Honestly, if I knew how evasion worked in RMXP I probably would have restricted it to skills in my first half due how potentially broken RNG can be in a game where every turn counts.

I was kind of taken aback from the invisible cracked floor myself when I played through the other half, but I guess the other crack above hinted it? You have a point in that it doesn't reward you for looking for clever solutions, though, especially in a game that's intended to make you feel like you're an assassin.

Thank you! Your half definitely gave me a workout: I've never done stealth eventing before! Much less have I even touched XP since the year it came out. So I spent a few days trying to figure out what was going on, and then I created my own version of it that functions a bit differently, and added the noise mechanic on top of it. It's not as long as I had hoped it would be, but after I exhausted my ideas I was in the dilemma of "wrap up the game here," or "create more levels to play through, but they won't turn out as clever as whats already been done. I went with the former and I think it worked.

Thank you for the tips on the elite guards. I'm glad you enjoyed the game! I'm really happy to hear you feel it complimented your first half well!

Yeah the RNG is pretty difficult to work with. I expected the skills to work like Ace and... well, nothing about the battle system works like Ace! I couldn't really tweak it, so I figure if the player leans heavily on saves, they should be able to hack through. It certainly gets easier as the main character grows stronger. In fact our hero pretty much crits all of the enemies near the end of the game. It surprised me at first while I was testing it, and I decided to just keep it for flavor's sake. Kinda' like she's getting more aggressive and fierce as the game goes on.

Thanks Nova, and good point! That was entirely intentional, and I was in a devious mood when I made that tile crack as well. I wanted to invoke a feeling of the game being out to get the player... I guess it stems from some of my hardcore tendencies. In fact in the very next map
if you try to open the chest first, the enemies will hear it open and will attack
, so that kinda' fed back into the whole cracked floor thing. Perhaps if I take a look at it again, I'll remove that hidden cracked floor because, like Ratty said, it didn't reward cleverness.
