The best game I've ever watched

Well, I went into this game with the lowest of expectations. This being a admitted dated work; I was just looking for a little time waster.

This game has some fantastic ideas, but is ultimately held back by a lot of bad design choices and bugs.

The story seems straight forward enough; the introduction scrolling text was well written; however once you get into the actual game cutscenes, the dialog takes a nose dive; largely because of the creator's english speaking. The remarkable thing, however is that under the bad english; I could sense the potential for good characters and dialog... Which is something that I don't think I can properly explain.

Thus far, the story is pretty garden variety (but competent) and the characters seem like-able and alive.

Let us move on to the actual gameplay; something that takes you around 10 minutes to actually GET to. While the introduction managed to hold my attention, it was entirely too long. I was not given control of my character until after a number of lengthy cut scenes. Even after getting control; you don't even get to a save point until you move around in the dungeon a bit; which is my mind is a fundamental and potentially fatal flaw, but not the last one.

After finishing the lengthy intro and the tutorial battle; I made my way into the dungeon. After maneuvering through a few creative, yet buggy traps; I made my way to a needlessly complicated puzzle. Now, I may be just a moron; but I simply could not figure the puzzle (more like a riddle) out. Thankfully, there was a save point not far from this; but at this point my will to continue on had dwindled to nothing.

This author's next game looks very promising, so I hope that he doesn't continue the exercise these bad habbits. The last thing you want to do is present the player with a puzzle before you've hooked the player. Even if it seems like a really simple on to you.

So, in summation :

+ Like-able characters
+ Neat trap ideas
+ Fast ATB

- Buggy traps
- Ridiculously long introduction
- Bad english
- "Premature Puzzlation"

Is it worth a play through? I say give it a chance, you may make it farther than I did.

Hey NB, thanks for a cool review. Not much feedback to give, because I agree most of the points you state. It's kinda silly with old projects, because I see the flaws too, so I can only agree, instead of defending the game whatsoever. Also, those are mistakes I've learned from. :)

Though, if you want to see the game a bit further, where it could get a bit more enjoyable (read: after that puzzle), you can check the solution to the puzzle from the game page comments!
That's good to hear, I'll take a look at the puzzle solution.

Good lord this review is full of typos...
