Totally unexpected!!!

How did I miss this???
This is a game that totally took me by surprise!

WARNING - this is a short game and I cannot review it without spoiling some major points. SO, listen to me: try the game and THEN read the review otherwise you will NOT enjoy it fullest. Or, if you do not want to play the game... well, just read the review, whatever, do what you want, but remember!

Ok, are you sure? Really SURE???
Remember thatI DID WARN YOU!

Ok so let's start again from the beginning with the review of this totally crazy game made by Subzero_Dragon and Craze for the swap-in-the-middle 2016 event.
This adventure really surprised me for a simple reason, because it's a jrpg game about jrpg games, but when I started it I was not aware of this particular theme.
At first I was unimpressed to the errors I noticed, while genuinely enjoying the game.
I mean it starts directly with the final confrontation with the boss and then... BAM the real game starts with Elena, the protagonist, having a flashback about how everything began, her humble origins and first adventure. Oh yeah, a big surprise, but just the first of many others!

It's time for a typical... BOSS FIGHT!

Yes, because behind the classical tale of heroes, demons and magical crystals there will be much more! But let's start from the base: the first town is where Elena, a fighter, will meet her first party members (a cleric that is clearly a healer that will come handy in the dungeon, and a knight, for some added muscle). The game is very basic: there are random encounders and the characters may fight or flee. They can attack with weapons or use special attacks that cost mana, and so on...

Soooo everything average? Uhm no, it's probably worse, I mean that there are map errors, some bugs, imprecision, placeholder characters, and obviously half-finished elements... and at first I believed these were just some real errors, but later... well we get to know the developer of the game we played so far! What happens next is a homage to the Rmk.net community and a lesson on mapping (and also a sort of walking simulator with many dialogues... to explain that in few words, but it's clearly a lot more)! Really unexpected and well made, very creative!

What else? Well this game uses rtp, is basic but still tricked me into believing it was an actual game, the twists and the dialogues totally surprised me. Awesome! The mapping is so bad that feels real and... it's exactly what I can expect from an amateur developer's first game: total final fantasy ripoff! This was a great idea, the only thing that left me wondering is the ending, but ok it was a sort of joke so it cannot last for long. Anyway, I believe this to be brilliant!

Hey, hey, hey, but come on, that looks *so cool*!!!

The Verdict... well, sort of!
Hey. this is a difficult game to review since it's a sort of parody/meta-game or call it what you want, and it's also a short event game made in two weeks by two developers. Well, it's cool. Yeah, probably to appreciate this fully you must surely know the community, how these games are made and so on, it's not a traditional game, not even a short one or a demo, is more a lessons on mapping. And other things I guess!

It's brilliant, really. Not for everyone of course, but it made me laugh in several parts, especially after the "normal jrpg" part. Clever and funny. How did I miss this? What a shame, really. I just hope you played this before reading the review, if not let's move on the next game!

Anyway well played sirs, really well played indeed!

It seems a bit weird that you didn't mention Subzero_Dragon during this review considering she developed the first half of this game considering it was part of the Swap in the Middle with You event held back in 2016.
