Part of the RPG Maker Classics Archive: an initiative to upload classic RM games so they are not forgotten.

Developed by: Kamau
Date of Release: 2001

Legion Saga is a fantasy game set in a medieval world on the brink of war. It is regarded as one of the classic games of the early 2k era and uses almost exclusively the RTP resources. It follows the story of the prince of a kingdom who has just engaged in battle with the neighbouring country, and his struggles to find out the truth behind not only his own history, but who is pulling the strings behind the war. With a large cast of characters, the game was quite well-received by most people, though it is quite dated by today's standards.

Legion Saga was made in RM2K and focuses on creating an experience alike to the Suikoden series of games, where collecting an army of people together in order to wage war against a corrupt country is a staple. It caught a bit of flak for being too like the first game of the Suikoden series, but many people still enjoyed the fresh twist it gave to typical jRPG stories.

The graphics are almost all RTP, and maps do suffer from being large and empty in places. This is a symptom of the time in which it was made, though, as most attention was focussed on the story and systems of the game. The game boasts three types of battle systems - normal jRPG battles, one-on-one duels and larger-scale war battles. It also has a save carry feature with the next game of the series, allowing unlockable secrets when you copy your save file from a particular point in the game over to Legion Saga II.

If you can get past the slow walk speed and out-dated design sensibilities you may find yourself enjoying the story quite a bit.

Ah, Legion Saga. Truly one of the classics of the golden age of RPG Maker. <3

Unfortunately, the creator has since left the RM play field to chase bigger, brighter dreams. Glad you enjoyed them though!

Ohh, so you know what happened to Kamau?
Back when they came out, those games were the bomb.
(well the first one was always a tad clunky, but the other two significantly improved on it, as I remember; plus obvious Suikoden fangame so everything's forgiven)
He's worked on some pretty nice projects, including his own game, Luminesca, which looks pretty pimp.
I've seen that game! Had no idea. Thanks for the info~
o_O what is this "RPG Maker Classics Archive" and where could it be found? since the only mention of it i've ever seen is big bold text on the odd old game like this. even google turns up nothing related at all. so what is this RPG Maker Classics Archive? and for that matter, is the a listing of such reuploaded old games that could be found somewhere?

There's no official list, but basically anything on this playlist OR any game uploaded by Aremen is on the RPG Maker Classics Archive. Aremen doesn't host any other games but those on it.
Aww...I was going to mention something about one of the bosses lacking an image file, but it looks like that part's already been covered.

There doesn't seem to be an RTP monster equivalent of "aloof blue-haired hero with hair covering one eye", which may explain why only Regule's battle sprite is blank. I can't seem to find an equivalent in the image files, so will the game still work when you reach that point?
Hm, I'll look in to finding something that fits.
Pros

- It is a bit similar to Suikoden // Es un poco similar a Suikoden

Cons

- Very simple and has a lot of rtp // Muy simple y con mucho rtp

Length time: 6 hours.
Kind of good for me that the old Legion Saga is getting attention again... But it also adds pressure to the remake!
I saved LS1 file and started LS2 - I see no connection to the 2 of them - what is the sequel suppose to be ? Not same characters or nothing - so how is it a sequel ?
It's based on the Suikoden series, where some characters would come back into your army over the course of the game. The games are also set in the same world, but in a different area, and you hear about changes that occurred in past (or future) game areas.

In the second game you meet characters like Shotan and the like again, and they eventually join your party, but you're a different character than before. You also hear about what happened to other people from the first game too.

So, yeah, it's not a sequel in the way that you'd expect, but it is a sequel.
I know this hasn't had any messages in a while but I was able to dig up the old recruitment guide using the Wayback Machine.
Im not sure if this was answered and
Sorry if I'm late but is there an exact area to save for Legion Saga so you can pass it on to Legion Saga 2? I heard first it's the last save at the end of the game (Legion Saga 1)then I heard in certapin castle in Ridmans bedroom before the big battle in meluvet is best, can anyone tell me the safest save to load from( Legion Saga 1) to start Legion Saga 2? Thank you. I heard a carry over gives bonuses so maybe me and others looking can know exactly?
Guys, what font is the game using?
Ridman's bedroom, afaik, is the place you want to save.

If the font is messing up you can download the patch that should fix it here: http://rpgmaker.net/users/AznChipmunk/locker/fontpatch.exe

Install the font/s and it should fix the issue.

But yeah these games are great for old school and appreciate you guys keeping this series alive. =D.
The Legion Saga series were one of the my favourite RM2K games.
