Soul of a Meluvetian
Chapter Two:- Premonition
A Legion Saga fanfic by ACB

It had been a week since Cid Regule had been promoted to general of the Jade Dragon army of Lu Yaio. So far, Cid had only seen the advantages of being a Lu Yaio general., high-class food and servants to wait on you twenty-four hours a day. Although this was all about to change.

It was Thursday. Cid was hoping that he would be able to have a hassle free day, much like the ones he had been enjoying since last Thursday, when he had become general of the Jade Dragon army. However, it was not to be. After breakfast at the royal dining hall, Xi Yung told Cid that he was to attend a meeting on the “war” against Lord Nastra. “War? I thought there were just some skirmishes”, Cid thought as he headed to the strategy room with Emperor Xi Yung.

The strategy room was quite large. The walls were red, with maps of different countries all across the walls. In the centre of the room, there was a large wooden table with more maps on it. Xi Yung, Cid and some other high-ranking Lu Yaio officials walked into the room and sat down. Xi Yung began by saying, “As many of you know, before the demon attacks on numerous nations across Beryllusir, Lord Nastra began to push into Lu Yaio territory, attempting to claim it as his own. Although we lost a lot of men during the border disputes, Lord Nastra has taken a bigger loss during the decimation of Krisdea. However, Lord Nastra’s castle in Veramonde, Sai Geradon, is still standing, and many of his men are stationed there. We cannot allow Lord Nastra to get the upper hand. We must strike now if we are to stop his plans for the invasion of Lu Yaio for good. Cid, a ship, the Reinokai, shall set sail from the town of Banomizu south of here. You shall sail with a squad of troop to the town of Zerdio. There, you shall capture the town, and proceed to the Fortress of Ramchalle, west of Zerdio. Break through the fortress and lead an attack on Sai Geradon. Retreat to the Reinokai if any problems arise. That is all. The Reinokai shall depart from Banomizu at noon. Is that understood?” Cid replied, “Yes, sir.” Xi Yung then told everyone, “In that case, you are all dismissed.” Everyone got up from their seats and walked out of the room.

At about 10:00 am, a private carriage, pulled by the royal horses of Emperor Xi Yung, left Abanoya for Banomizu. The carriage was dark red, with text written on the sides in the old Lu Yaio tongue . Inside the carriage were two compartments. The front compartment was for the driver, which had three red padded seats. The back compartment had red padded seats on either side of it. Cid and Xi Yung sat at the front with the driver, while some of the troops sat in the back. Several more carriages followed the one Xi Yung was on, driving the rest of the troops to Banomizu. At about 10:45 am, the carriages reached Banomizu. The town was large, with several shops around the place, and a huge marketplace in the middle. At the end of town was the harbour, where the Reinokai was, ready for boarding. Xi Yung told everyone that they had an hour to get whatever they needed before they departed. Cid took this opportunity to look around the town, and he stocked up on potions among other miscellaneous items he might need, and had his sword, Meluvet Soul, sharpened at the local blacksmith. After his hour was up, Cid headed to the harbour, ready to board the Reinokai. The Reinokai was a large ship which a sculpture of the sea god on the front of the boat. This was meant to protect the ship from harm. The inside of the boat was filled with rooms, from a strategy room, to a library, to the cabins where Cid and the soldiers would be sleeping overnight on their way to Zerdio. Xi Yung saw the soldiers off at the harbour, and waved a goodbye to everyone on the Reinokai as the ship set sail.

Cid felt very uneasy during the trip, most of which he spent in the library, reading up on Lu Yaio history. Veramonde is one of the most powerful nations on Beryllusir, and although Lord Nastra had lost a lot of his men during the war against the demons, his army was still one of the strongest around. Also, something didn’t seem right. From the stories Cid heard, it was Xi Yung who tried to invade Krisdea, not Nastra invading Lu Yaio. After dinner in the Reinokai dining hall, Cid read some more before trying to get some sleep. In the morning, everyone got ready for when they arrived at Zerdio. At about 11:00 am, the Reinokai reached Zerdio.

Cid marched out of the Reinokai with his squadron of troops. There were only two guards in the town, so there wasn’t much effort involved in capturing the town. Cid ran up to the guards at the town entrance, who wore silver armor. He cast a Nightfall Blizzard spell on one of the guards. The other guard ran, probably to warn the guards at the fortress of Ramchalle. The battle hardly seemed fair as a huge chunk of ice came down on the guard at the entrance. Cid gathered about 10 soldiers together and said, “You are to stay here and defend the town from any of Lord Nastra’s men. I’ll lead the rest of the army to the Fortress of Ramchalle.”

Meanwhile, at the Fortress of Ramchalle, the guard who retreated at Zerdio ran towards the gates, shouting “Sir! Come quick!” General Ewan , who wore a suit of tough silver mythril armor all around his body, stood watch at the watchtower. He saw the soldier running towards the fortress and headed down to the gates to see what the problem was. “What’s wrong?!”, Ewan asked when he met the guard at the gates. “An army of troops have just attacked Zerdio! They came by boat! They looked like Lu Yaio troops!”, the guard replied. Ewan said, “Lu Yaio troops! We must prepare for an attack immediately! They could strike at any minute!”

The Lu Yaio troops charged towards the fortress, with Cid behind them shouting out orders. They reached the fortress, and were faced with a squad of Veramonde troops. Their leader, General Ewan, shouted, “You shall go no further!” The battle commenced. The two armies charged towards each other and soon soldiers were slashing with swords, and firing spells and bows all around the battlefield. But in the end, the Lu Yaio army was victorious, and General Ewan was forced to retreat. Cid gathered his troops together, and said, “Now, we must head to Sai Geradon and strike there.” 20 troops were told to guard the fortress, while the others headed to Sai Geradon.

The Veramonde army waited at the entrance of Sai Geradon, led by Lord Nastra, who was accompanied by someone with black hair who wore a white robe with yellow stripes. Cid knew him well. His name was Ridley. He wrote the Higanasu peace treaty during the civil war. Cid’s squad charged towards Sai Geradon, and soon met up with Nastra’s army. Soon, sword clashed against sword, spell against spell, and bows came down like rain on the battlefield. Ultimately, Nastra’s army was no match for Cid’s, and soon, Nastra stood alone. Nastra shouted, “You barbarians! You’ll pay for this!” and then chanted a wind spell, which carried him and Ridley away into the mountains. Cid told the Lu Yaio troops, “Now, go into Sai Geradon and secure it as our own. I’ll head back to Zerdio and tell the soldiers on the Reinokai that our mission is complete.”

One day later, back at Abanoya, Cid, Xi Yung and many other Lu Yaio officials sat in the castle strategy room. Xi Yung started by saying, “ Cid, I congratulate you on your victory at Sai Geradon three days ago. Now, we must focus on our next move. It is well known that Lord Nastra has an alliance with Lord Kima of Higanasu and Lord Ridman of the Twin Empires. It is likely that Lord Nastra shall call on them to help reclaim Veramonde. We must strike both Higanasu and the Twin Empires now if we are to secure Veramonde as our own.” Cid thought, “Higanasu and the Twin Empires?! This is insane!” Xi Yung continued, “The Reinokai shall set sail for the Higanasu port town of Jenouille tomorrow with the Jade Dragon army aboard.. Cid, you are to fight your way to Tudar City through Jenouille, Vietta and Lashu. I believe you are familiar with these towns, Cid?” Cid replied, “Yes sir.” Cid thought, “What is this man thinking?! Has eternal life driven him insane?!” Xi Yung continued, “At Tudar City, take the city, and defeat Lord Kima. Is that clear?” Cid answered, “Yes sir.”

After the meeting was over, Cid headed into the castle gardens to get some fresh air. Cid thought to himself, “Invade Higanasu?! What is Xi Yung thinking! I can’t lead an attack on Higanasu! The attack on Veramonde seemed unusual, but this attack on Higanasu is totally unjustified! I’ve got to get out of here and warn Lord Kima. I could steal Xi Yung’s royal dragon to fly to Higanasu.” Cid learned a bit about dragon riding in his youth, when he visited Dragorica . The dragon tower of Abanoya castle was located on the west of the castle. Xi Yung’s dragon, Ryuou, was at the top of the tower. Ryuou was trained not to fly off, so he could roam freely around the dragon tower.

Cid waited until everyone was asleep, then he headed for the dragon tower. A guard was on duty by the stairs to the tower. Cid hid behind a corridor corner, got out his Hinderance orb, and cast a sleep spell on the guard. Then Cid headed up the tower to where Ryuou was. Ryuou was a red dragon that was about Cid’s size. Ryuou was asleep, so Cid gently woke him up. The dragon turned towards Cid and said something in Jugodin, but Cid couldn’t understand what he said. Cid tried to recall the lessons that he was given by Larla, one of the dragon knights at Dragorica, who is now queen of the dragons. He was supposed to climb on the dragon’s back, and gently hold onto the dragon’s horns, and tell the dragon what direction to go in. Cid climbed onto Ryuou’s back, held him by the horns, and told him to fly east.

Cid found it hard to hold onto Ryuou while he was flying at first, but he soon got used to flying on him. Cid had forgotten how much fun flying a dragon was. It was hard to make out where he was going since it was the middle of the night. Eventually Cid was able to see the Krisdea/Higanasu checkpoint, and so he told Ryuou to turn northeast. After an hour or two, Cid could see Tudar City up ahead and so he told Ryuou to land.
Cid landed in front of Tudar City, and started to walk in. Ryuou followed. One of the guards, dressed in Peregrin knight uniform, told Cid, “Cid Regule! You’ve returned! I’m sorry, but you’ll have to leave your dragon outside. Don’t worry, we’ll make sure he’s OK.” Cid replied, “OK, Thanks.” As Cid walked into Tudar City, Ryuou said something in Jugodin. Cid walked up to Ryuou and said, “Don’t worry, I won’t be long”, then walked into Tudar City. When Cid walked into Victory Castle, he was stopped by the receptionist at the reception desk. She had long brown hair and wore a blue dress. “Cid Regule, what are you doing back here?” Cid replied, “I need to speak with Lord Kima! It’s urgent!” The receptionist asked, “Could you wait until the morning? Everyone’s asleep.” Cid answered, “Well, I suppose.” The receptionist replied, “OK, I’ll inform Lord Kima that you wish to speak with him in the morning.” Cid said, “Thanks”, then went to rest against one of the walls until daybreak. When everyone started getting up. The receptionist, who looked, very, very tired from staying up all night at the reception desk, said, “Cid, I’ll go and tell Lord Kima that you wish to see him now.” Cid replied, “Thanks.” Soon, the receptionist came back, this time, accompanied by Lord Kima and a man with blonde hair, who wore a black suit and glasses. Cid said, “Lord Kima. I come with urgent news.” Kima replied, “Cid. Lets go up to the meetings room upstairs. Cid, Kima and the person accompanying him went upstairs to the meetings room, which looked the same as it did when it was used by King Zogoran. It had a table that circled every side of the room except the entrance side, with a large space in the middle of the room. Kima sat at the centre of the table on the side opposite to the entrance of the room, and his companion sat beside him. Cid stood before Kima. Kima said to Cid, “Please state your business here.” Cid started by saying, “After I was fired from the Blood Moon knights, I headed to Lu Yaio to find work. Last week I was employed by Emperor Xi Yung as general of the Jade Dragon army. A few days ago, as you may have heard, the Jade Dragon army invaded Veramonde. Now, Xi Yung plans to attack Higanasu. I have left the side of Xi Yung once I heard his plan to attack this country. I had my doubts about the Veramonde mission, and now I can no longer side with Xi Yung. He seems almost insane.” Kima replied, “Thank you, Cid. If you speak the truth, then we should prepare for Xi Yung’s attack.”

Cid was now in a predicament. He was once again left with no job, no home, and this time he has a dragon to look after. “Where am I going to go now?, Cid thought to himself. Cid is a wanted criminal in the Twin Empires, which is part of the reason that he can’t go back and see his family very often, because of the risk of being caught and jailed. He has no chance of employment in Higanasu, and is an exile in Lu Yaio and Veramonde. As Cid left Tudar City, he was met by two people. A lady with long blue hair and a purple swimsuit, and a man with brown hair and a white suit. The lady said, “Cid Regule, I predicted that you would be here. My name is Vista, a fortune-teller from the Twin Empires, and this man here is my husband, Kraig. We have come here to meet you because I have foreseen your destiny. Have you ever heard of the great prophet Osten?” Cid replied, “Yes, he was the one who prophesied the formation of the three legions.” Vista said, “Yes, he was the prophet who wrote about the legion prophecy. However, the prophecy of the legions wasn’t prophesied fully by Osten. This was because according to the prophecy, humanity was to be wiped out by the five titans of Dansa. However, the prophecy didn’t come true. First, Kaiser Argane was meant to die at the hands of Nastra. However, the fifth titan, Barbatta, sent the prophecy off course by killing Argane. The third legion master, Kima, originally had a different destiny. He was to free Higanasu from dictatorship. However, King Zogoran didn’t walk the dark path he would have done if Barbatta hadn’t intervened at Sai Geradon all those years back, or if the titans hadn’t struck when they did. The last point at which the prophecy took a turn from the original path was when the alliance defeated Dansa on the city of the gods, Avalon, when Dansa was to wipe out humanity.” Cid asked, “So, what are you trying to say?” Vista answered, “The prophecy of the legions, as the way of things is to pass on destiny’s new path, goes on. There is to be another Legion Master. What I am trying to say is…Cid, you are the fourth Legion Master.”
