Over two hundred years ago, the five heroes defeated the god of darkness; Ragnarok, in a climactic struggle for the fate of the world. Banished back to the realm of darkness known as the Abyss, the threat of the evil god had finally been put to rest once and for all...or so they thought.

Umbral Soul follows the story of Ragnarok’s loyal servant, Pandora, who joins her master in a quest to conquer the world and reclaim his lost power. In order to shroud the world in eternal darkness, they will have to find and recruit new allies, build an army of powerful monsters, and raise a force strong enough to crush anyone who dares to oppose them. Heroes, generals and rival overlords all stand against them. Do you have the power to make the world yours?

Pandora
A powerful dark sorceress with the ability to call forth monsters from the Abyss and enslave them to her will. Her burning hatred for the world and its people leads her to follow Ragnarok with unwavering loyalty.

Ragnarok
The god of darkness, who seeks dominion over the human realm. Once an extremely powerful being in the form of a monstrous demon, he has now been reduced to a mere soul. He wishes to plunge the entirety of the human realm into darkness, in part out of spite for his counterpart; the goddess of light, Lumielle.

Lanith
Beautiful, deadly, and self absorbed to a tee, Lanith is a succubus with a never ending hunger for the lifeforce of men. Having served under Pandora since she was only a child, she has a knack for getting under her skin, and does so whenever the opportunity arises.

Damien
A deeply twisted and sadistic young man, Damien loves nothing more than manipulating others and watching them squirm. While he has kept his true nature a secret, Ragnarok’s uprising marks the perfect opportunity for him to cut loose and have some fun...by killing as many enemies as possible.

Azrielle
The lord of all demons, who is fiercely loyal to Ragnarok and possesses an extreme, seething hatred for humanity. After failing to aid his master in conquering the world the first time, he has no intention of repeating the same mistakes again.

Shock and Speechlessness 2: The Shockening

Hoo boy, where to even start? I've been putting off writing this blog for a couple of days now because I'm not exactly sure what to say. Welp, let's start from the beginning. A few days ago, Umbral Soul won 3 and 1/3 Misaos: Best Protagonist/Characters, Best Intro, Best Gameplay Balance, and a three way tie with Lakria Legends and Sideways for Raddest Setting.

To be perfectly honest, I'm speechless. In fact, I've been speechless for 3 days, which is why this blog is coming so late. Once again, my good friends shock and speechlessness have shown up at my doorstep, carrying gift baskets filled with fruit and trail mix. I don't think I've ever felt like this before in my life, and I doubt I ever will again. It just isn't something you can put into words.

Let's get this out of the way; I am extremely flattered and thankful to this community for its kindness. When I joined this site and submitted this game, winning a Misao was such a far off dream that I never even considered it possible. Heck, I thought even getting a single review would be a stretch. I actually laughed when people suggested it could be even remotely possible for this game to win a Misao. Yet here I am, talking to all of you now, overwhelmed by a powerful mixture of disbelief and joy that that has socked me in the jaw harder than Mike Tyson in the final level of Punch Out.

I'd like to give a big fat thank you, not only to those of you who voted for the game, but who gave it a chance. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would become this popular. I'm going to do my best to live up to your expectations for future games, if for no other reason than to give back some of the joy this community has given me. And to you goofballs who voted for Umbral Soul in the "Best Fangame" category, you're all shmucks. Lovable shumucks, but shumcks. Thanks again, now it's time for me to get back to work and make you guys some even better games!

Is there away to going in the forturneteller house is alway lock and i dont kno too easy lv up monster
Nope, that's another sequel location. In making this game, I basically had to plan locations and events for 2 games at once on the same maps.
Well either way I am sure I can speak for everyone here that I am happy you released this game to the public it was so much fun to play through and experience the dark side for once.
I also second the f7 key not skipping the dialogue for me, either.
Not sure why, maybe because it's one of the 'f' keys, not sure, but either way it's minor but still. xD

I second that... It is much, much better than most of the "commercial" games I saw around... I am not sure if I even said it... it was... quite refreshing and far less frustrating than many other games... even though I didn't like some decisions (How come she didn't consider how the wealths of the nobles could help her with the quest of world domination?! And some morally less questionable decisions like saving the little child...) this game was quite interesting compared to the last few games i played this and last year. (Better than imagining it the entire time to at least play neutral chaotic....^^)

If the second game is truly out of the hero's perspective than I will be sure to not be prejudiced at least... (till they beat up Draconus. Than I gotta find a way to murder the main characters. They would need punishment. And Cathulhu.)

My hope is that at least the main character is not the warrior "stereotype".... xD
Love for the mages ^_^

I hope for the sequel we can save the evils excep azrielle i wait and good luck

guillaume: in my opinion th only wait to put end to the war between dark mage and heroes is to kills th gods becaure they manipule mankinds fo win this usel war if the gods diead nobody cant be diead and that was a good ends for the squel what do you think wheelmanzero
knightowl- Yeah, it's weird. F7 is working for the editor version, but not for the compressed version. Maybe that script isn't designed to be used outside of testing. I'll have to tinker with it.

dasgibesnet- I think villains are a lot of fun to play as too. Not sure why there aren't more games where you can take on that role, but maybe this one will encourage others to make their own villainous games. One thing I wanted to avoid was having the player roam through all the same maps in the sequel. I kept some locations sealed so the player would have new places to explore come next game. You'll be visiting fresh new areas, and several of the locations from this game will have undergone visual changes. Saving a sick little girl would have been pretty out of character for Pandora. That's more of a hero thing.

Hmm...will you have to fight Draconus and Cthulhu in the sequel? Who can say really? Heh heh heh. I'm not revealing more details about the playable cast just yet, but I will say that many of them have unusual abilities.

guillaume- Poor Azrielle gets no love.
Sorry bud, but the sequel's story has already been planned out from beginning to end. I will say that there won't be any loose ends left hanging by the time the game is over. Whoops, double post. I can already hear the thunderous footsteps of the admins coming to smite me.
what is Cthulhu and HAve you knew a good rpg maker game a can play like acttion untile the game is finished and where do you came form wheelman
Love it and beat it.Here some thoughts and questions of mine;

*Laneth have two skills which charm men, is the charm effect the same? The description of one says that lowers enemy ATK but i don't see any ATK debuff on enemies.
*Since you just use one summon wouldn't it be nice all of them shared exp so you can have all them leveled up?Otherwise it's just best focus on just one rather than try other options right?Or make their LV equals to Pandora when her get them.I wanted to use Rozalin but when i got her she is 12 when i were 20 and something.:/
*Unlike most here i don't think Pandora healing breaking since it heals very little, like 300HP with her in her forties, and i was still challenged by the game even with it.Without it and Laneth heal i wouldn't have beat Atena and potions suck at healing.
*Talking about Atena, why have a npc near the entrance when you're to fight her?Talking with him he says anything and unlock the barrier of the door without you need to beat those two bosses. Was that intentional?
*Status like Confuse(Laneth skill), burn and dark resistence is kinda hard to get, specially confuse(Yes, i used on male foes only :/).
*Did Serene and her companions die, and Atena, Odin and Perseu? If so they'll be in your next game?

Overall was a great game and enjoyed a lot, plot, characters and challenge. It could have better textbox due to some mispellings but it's not a issue.Various tsunderes characters like Pandora, Fire Demon, Rozalin, funny speechs in the monsters tournment, liked the berserker character who looks like Kenpachi from bleach.
Nice job.:)))

One day you will slip up before it's out... one day... ;)

Well I didn't mean to just save the girl actually^^ I was more thinking along the line of using her as a... test subject. To be absolutely honest I expected one of two things to happen when I first talked to her:
1. The hero's kicking my ass.
2. Her beeing the puppet dark mage type like Damien and snapping at them because somehow she hears they killed her dad. (Not confirmed as far as I know)

After the dreams I thought Damien would try to save her... till I had a closer look. Guess I just have the soft spot for saving people in games if it doesn't turn out to be a hassle and if the reward is right... (Alright I admit it... I just wanted another reward... '_')

Hm interesting.... well that does give one hope xD

Smitten you? Please Ragnarok is at your back and calling.... probably in the original meaning to when you let Lumielle out...^^
Though they use adjust limits and cheat their level up so... Ragnarok is screwed. Good running.^^
Bungholio- Great to hear you enjoyed the game! The charm effect is the same for both of Lanith's moves. The charmed state is represented by a little heart next to an afflicted foes name, and cuts thier physical attack power in half.

Having the summons share exp is something I wouldn't really know how to do. I don't know anything about scripting and rely on the scripts that others have built. I wanted the players to buy Demon's Draughts in order to level their summons in order to add value to gold. Other than unlocking sidequests, money doesn't really serve any other useful purpose, since potions and ethers aren't that useful.

That NPC is a test event that I somehow forgot to remove before releasing the last version. It will be removed from the next version, along with a host of other glitches and some spelling errors that have been brought to my attention. I don't expect everyone to download a game six times without providing any bonuses, so let's just say the next version will have even more content.

Answering your question about the heroes...

Serene and her party can actually be found in Azrielle's dungeon after you defeat her at the Abandoned Fort. Odin, Athena and Perseus' fates will be revealed in the sequel.

dasgibtesnet- Ha! With all your crazy ideas you should make your own game. It would no doubt be horribly imbalanced but fun.
Hello i finish the game for 10 time now and i never by tired of playing but i dont undestand why ragnarck want to pandora destroy his heart at the fight with athena he went possed her or what and u donr undersatan the scene wen the dark pandora attack her lighr yong one in her mind at the end she dont fight fear of fire and why she dont kill hear light side hat mean she good inside the proof is she resurect linit and sh dont kill serene at the tower and she went resurect her parent. and odin his dead at the end or what
I'm going to hide my answer in a tab to avoid spilling the beans on spoilers.

As I'm sure you noticed, while Pandora acts pretty evil throughout the entire game, she has not completely let go of her compassion. Ragnarok wanted her to let go of that compassion so she could become a more effective weapon and no longer hesitate to follow his orders. The "heart" Ragnarok mentions is referring to the humanity that still remains within her.

The scene between her light and dark selves was a peek into her inner struggle, with her dark side trying its hardest to suppress her light side. This too will be expanded upon in the sequel. Sorry, but I won't say whether or not Odin made it, you'll just have to hang in there until the sequel comes out.

thank for answer my qyestions ido you make a triloigi wih the saga and i try to find bug for the update by the way how fair are you with bugs for the sequel colud you make more fights with the villians it more epic then one and the fight between the heros is toos easy at too 2 turn they dead
Anytime buddy. Honestly planning a third game would be thinking a little too far ahead. I'm just going to plan them one at a time. Buy hey, who knows what the future holds? I've been crushing the bugs as I find them, while working on a few other things for the game. It's gonna take a little time for the next version to come out, but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Thanks for the help!
u wonder why ivan buy equipement on the game is that abug or what and tgw and the animation of pupet at the heroes at the tower with make weard the trator have the have he animation not om him when he wlk i beline and the iteams of mp or hp are useless and the only villain who is bad withor reason is azriele and the god of darkness can you make prequel game of jeremy story
Armor and weapons were made intentionally unremovable. Buying equipment is for weak heroes who need to bolster their strength. The villains come already equipped with effective armor and weapons, so much so that anything they were to buy at a shop would be a downgrade. Increasing the power of potions and ethers would have made the healing summons pointless. I didn't want healing to be easy in this game, so the player would be forced to fight more strategically. That's part of the reason why I want to remove Pandora's healing spell and go back to the original build.

Buying armor at shops and spamming potions and ethers are elements of traditional rpg gameplay, where you play as the hero. I wanted the feeling of playing as a villain to be different. You have an army of monsters and dozens of powerful moves at your disposal, you just have to be smart about using them instead of relying on items and equipment.

I have a lot on my plate as it is, so I don't plan on making a game about Jeremy's party, but I do have something else in the works. Even Azrielle and Ragnarok have reasons for acting the way they do. Ragnarok's motivation isn't as shallow as you might think, and will be expanded upon in the sequel. Azrielle's motivation is pretty much spelled out through his sidequests and scenario's.

Hmm anytime I download this, it fails, and I don't get the game.exe for some reason. Tried downloading about 15 times. XD I've even tried the dropbox way, and other browsers.
Just finished the game, and man call that GAME because is the best game that appeared in rmn since God nows how long!!! Something that always greaves me about rpg maker games is that the history and character development is always lacking content and could be great explorated and increased, but in this game i just let tears of joy fall of my eyes, the history and chara dev is simply amasing especially Pandora's, Damien's, Marcus's and Lanith's developments some plot twists greatly increased the general appeal of the game itself, because it was very fun to play actually wanting to know what will happen next in the history. The battles was somewhat too easy, you could improve the difficult, especially the boss battles difficult, if you use the perfect combination it's hard to even receive damage from a boss (i used mostly Rosalyn, Lanith, Demora and Catastrophy, in this order, over the game as the summons, and my teamates were Damien and Gryger, that combination had so much power buff and general attack damage that no boss posed a treat, even my battle agaisnt Athena in the castle draged ages to i finally see that i could not defeat her an then simply let myself die, because it was easy to recover my life and remove hers, mostly using Rosalyn or Demora as my summonings), the f7 button did not work anytime i tried, even in scenes that i already had view, sometimes when i changed a group member the member i recruited didn't disappear in the map and i could talk normally with him, but that not triggered the "recruitment chat", the final could be better, it was amasing truly truly amasing, but you could explore more the lightside of other character's soul, not just Pandora's side, to make then more and more troubling, i think that would make their grieve over the things that they deapaired much deeper, honest and appealling, i LMAO when Ragnarok could not absorb the power and just rushed against the sphere/cristal/iforgottheaccursedname it was really funny. And the last, but more important thing to say is thank you for the amasing game, i trully apreciatted playing, i'm waiting for the countinuation already!!! Keep the good work!!!
P.S. Can you recommend some game with great history like this one? Don't need to be the same type, just some game that has a history as fantastic as this one~
And forgive my poor english :(
