Over two hundred years ago, the five heroes defeated the god of darkness; Ragnarok, in a climactic struggle for the fate of the world. Banished back to the realm of darkness known as the Abyss, the threat of the evil god had finally been put to rest once and for all...or so they thought.

Umbral Soul follows the story of Ragnarok’s loyal servant, Pandora, who joins her master in a quest to conquer the world and reclaim his lost power. In order to shroud the world in eternal darkness, they will have to find and recruit new allies, build an army of powerful monsters, and raise a force strong enough to crush anyone who dares to oppose them. Heroes, generals and rival overlords all stand against them. Do you have the power to make the world yours?

Pandora
A powerful dark sorceress with the ability to call forth monsters from the Abyss and enslave them to her will. Her burning hatred for the world and its people leads her to follow Ragnarok with unwavering loyalty.

Ragnarok
The god of darkness, who seeks dominion over the human realm. Once an extremely powerful being in the form of a monstrous demon, he has now been reduced to a mere soul. He wishes to plunge the entirety of the human realm into darkness, in part out of spite for his counterpart; the goddess of light, Lumielle.

Lanith
Beautiful, deadly, and self absorbed to a tee, Lanith is a succubus with a never ending hunger for the lifeforce of men. Having served under Pandora since she was only a child, she has a knack for getting under her skin, and does so whenever the opportunity arises.

Damien
A deeply twisted and sadistic young man, Damien loves nothing more than manipulating others and watching them squirm. While he has kept his true nature a secret, Ragnarok’s uprising marks the perfect opportunity for him to cut loose and have some fun...by killing as many enemies as possible.

Azrielle
The lord of all demons, who is fiercely loyal to Ragnarok and possesses an extreme, seething hatred for humanity. After failing to aid his master in conquering the world the first time, he has no intention of repeating the same mistakes again.

I'm back, baby!

Hey everybody, hope you've been doing well. I'm pleased to say I was just recently discharged from rehab, so at long last after over a month I'm home. They ran a whole lot of tests on me and I had several surgeries, so I am finally no longer in danger of croaking. That means I'm finally free to double down on game development, when I'm not stuck sitting in some doctor's office that is. Thank you all for your well wishes, they went a long way towards improving my mental health through that strenuous time. Welp, that's enough chatter. I've got some game making to do.

Thanks a Lot for the answer i tryed to discover the number i only made the two last ones, you made my day

Another bug.

I got the 2 portal spells as well but 1 of them went away. However I got stuck with the one that leaves me trapt in the castle.
Ah yes, that again. I believe if you keep spamming the Abyssal portal skill that's left, it should get you back to the world map. That glitch was caused by a stray event at the entrance to vampire castle, and I've already gotten rid of it, so it shouldn't present a problem in the future once I release the latest patch. Sorry about that!

Well I hate be a bearer of bad news but I have the 1.2 version and I am still stuck in the castle because of the portal glitch. So not sure if I should try making a new game or just wait for the next patch. I tried spamming it and it didn't work this time.
I think I might know what the problem is, but I need a little info. Do you remember if you were able to teleport at all while inside the vampire's castle? Also, do you still have 2 Abyssal portals or 1?

Sorta. Thats when the problem started was after the vampire side quest and I got 2 of the same spell until one of the portal spells went away. After that I wasn't able to teleport out of the castle except once right after I finish a main story mission. Then if I telaported back to the castle I wouldn't be able to teleport out.

It's only if the story automatically brought me back to the castle could I teleport out.
just beat the game, took all of yesterday and today to beat it, great game, worth the wait, hard as hell

Ha! Wasn't it though? I think the main issue is that you have to rely on a handful of summons for all your healing. I'm tweaking Pandora's moveset for the final patch and giving her a weak party recovery spell, as well as a few new offensive spells with new animations. I'm also giving Damien two moves that will make him ACTUALLY USEFUL against bosses. Doing a playthrough of the newest setup right now, squashing bugs as I go along. In hindsight, I should've been more thorough with my initial testing, but I'm glad you enjoyed the game.

Edit: Oh, and in case anyone was wondering, I've found and squashed the bug that was giving shadowboy41 trouble, so it shouldn't be an issue in the final patch.
Um is the game supposed to end on top of champions tower every time i beat the boss there i see the cut scene and it just says game over
It most certainly is not. Auugh, it's always something. Are you getting the fiery game over screen? What's the last thing it shows you before the game over screen pops up?
It is the fiery game over. What happens is right after I beat the Boss on top of the tower and ragnaroc comes out and tells us to leave the game just ends

That is just bizarre, nothing like that happened during my testing. I'll look into it immediately.

Don't jump the gun yet there good sir, there may have been some very specific conditions that caused this. I'm collecting more information to find out exactly what might be the problem.

I downloaded this game a few days ago, then you announced and released some updates. So I downloaded the new version, and now you're working on fixes again. I probably should just have waited a little longer, but I really wanted to try this game out already.

Anyway, I only just started playing through the prologue, but I can already see this is going to be quite something. There's delicious irony everywhere, and quite a few of those heroic speeches seem oddly familiar. I'm excited to see how the plot is going to develop.

One thing I will have to say, though, is that I can't help but notice the huge amount of typos. There are so many of them. I know I shouldn't let something as minor as that bother me, but it's always been a pet peeve of mine.
If I had more free time at the moment, I would immediately offer to playtest this game and report all the errors in the dialogue, too. Maybe I can get to it some time in the future. For now, I'll just try to focus on what's more important, namely to enjoy the game the way it is.
Yeah there's a ridiculous amount of dialogue in this game, and I did everything myself, so I wouldn't be surprised if there were typos I missed. I think the issue that epics50 is having might be the result of transferred save from a previous version causing the game to end if you finish a certain battle with Pandora's HP at zero. At least that's my theory. It it's true, you shouldn't have a problem. Thanks for offering the assist, I hope you have a good time bud.
Ok, I'm about to enter the capital for the "final confrontation with no turning back" (or so it seems), gonna finish it tomorrow, but I think I can give all the feedback I can now, I doubt that last section will change much, unless there's a bug that doesn't allow to complete the game.

First of all, let me say that this game is excellent, it's truly been a blast and I give it a 9/10, I liked almost everything about it and I thank you for the 20+ hours of free enjoyment you have provided me.

However, like all proper feedback, it's on the negatives we have to focus if we wish to improve further, no? :P So here it goes...

The version I played is 1.2 (Without the Dark Rebirth Patch). I don't know how much of this was fixed with the latest patch, but I'll post it nonetheless, so you can doublecheck.

BUGS

1) During the fight with Damien, if you start with Lanith, and he possesses her, if you kill her, the game will crash because a script is missing.

2) The final form of Sagiris is not available. When you try to enhance it (at level 15), you get no dialogue, so you're stuck with it at level 15.

3) Chimera's final form begins at level 1 rather than 15.

4) Not sure about this one. It could be intended, but if it's intended, it's still a balance issue. Dark Overclock automatically resurrects the character that uses it (Gryger and Hilda, confirmed with both) when they're killed, bringing their HP back to the level they had when entered Berserk. This is problematic because it makes de facto those two characters almost immortal, and removes the "survivability" drawback of the ability, so they can have it up all the time fearing no consequences.

TEXT

Well there's a lot of spelling mistakes, and I'm pretty sure these are not typos because they were spelled wrong 100% of the time. I know there's a lot of dialogue and probably would be a nightmare to fix them all, but should you decide to go back and take a look, here's some of the words that are spelled wrong (with their correction).

1) Thier -> Their
2) Pleasent -> Pleasant
3) Inconcievable -> Inconceivable
4) Recieved -> Received

There could be more, but these were the most blatant.
Personally, I don't care much about spelling mistakes, but some other players could be turned off and not take seriously a game with so many of them.

MINOR GRIEVANCES AND SUGGESTIONS

1) Encounter Rate is too high and it kinda gets annoying after a while, this could be solved by either lowering the encounter rate (a lot, not just slightly), or by giving a new spell to Pandora (could be named "Threatening Aura" or something like that learned at level 20.) that disables/enables random encounters, toggle on/off use.

2) Have to hold shift to run... I suggest installing Yanfly's System options to enable autorun. You can find it here: https://yanflychannel.wordpress.com/rmvxa/menu-scripts/system-options/, it's not hard to install, but it does have some requirements (probably needs a core script by Yanfly, but you should find that on his page too). It's also easily customizable, and you can disable the parts about it that you don't like (but please keep the auto-dash if you install it =D).

3) Demonic Draught is a pain in the ass to use when you have many and 300 exp is nothing, less than a random battle towards the end. I suggest making two new items, sold by the dark imp, that cost 5000 and 50000 gold each and give 3000 and 30000 exp respectively, the gold/exp ratio is the same, but it would save a lot of time during consumpion. (This applies even with the Dark Rebirth patch, 300 or 600 the problem still remains).

4) Accessing the ebony cauldron monster enhancement is troublesome because it requires Marcus to be out of the party. I suggest implementing a way to access it even when Marcus is in your party, after all, he's still there. (it could be a simple device or crystal that replaces Marcus' sprite when he's with you)
Ah, more excellent feedback! Thank you Clandeddin, I'll try to address everything here. Fortunately the Sagirus and Chimera bugs were fixed in the Dark Rebirth patch. If you transfer your save to that patch, you should be able to fully evolve Sagirus, but Chimera's final form will stay tiny if you already evolved him. I'm going to have to look into the puppet battle and transformation bugs. It seems like there are a lot of bugs hidden in situations I hadn't thought to test for.

The "i" before "e" except after "c" rule is my mortal enemy. Like you said, this game has a crazy amount of dialogue, so it will be difficult to locate all the spelling errors, especially since several cutscenes change dialogue depending on who's in your party. That might be a long term fix I'll have to consider.

Truth be told I thought about making an item called "Repulsive Perfume" that shuts down encounters, but then I thought to myself "I busted my butt making these encounters, they'll fight them whether they want to or not!" I added a script in there that guarantees a 100% successful escape rate for almost all the random encounters in the game, so players wouldn't be forced to fight when they don't want to. I figured if the combat was interesting enough and fleeing was a guaranteed success, people wouldn't mind the random battles.

Yeah I considered autorun as an option, but I thought moving at such an unnatural speed would make the character feel jittery and break immersion. I thought VX Ace's dash speed was pretty good, and anything faster than that would feel like playing in debug mode. I also didn't want players to get through maps too quickly, since I tank at designing large maps.

A more expensive version of Demon's Draught is a great idea. I was trying to think of a way that draughts could be used successively so they weren't as tedious but none of my ideas worked. I've been releasing patches like crazy so I don't want to kick out another one yet, but all of this feedback has given me a very interesting idea.

You've got some great ideas. A stand-in for Marcus at the Cauldron does sound more practical. Heh, I might have to run my future games by you before I release them from now on.

My face actually hurts a little from smiling so much. I was nervous about releasing my game to the public, but I see it was the right decision. Knowing that you and others enjoy this game encourages me to continue making games of the same or higher quality.

P.S. The final boss will kick your butt if you are not prepared. Be ready for the long haul.
.... Wait the "thier" wasn't a sort of dialect unique to the game for their? .... Welp there goes my way of thinking the author did it knowingly...^^

Little something I remembered I forgot about:
If you go to Arcfall and use 3000gold to get the slime and fight damien with it... than he has NOTHING he can puppeteer cause you seem to have forgotten about that possibly occuring... xD
