Over two hundred years ago, the five heroes defeated the god of darkness; Ragnarok, in a climactic struggle for the fate of the world. Banished back to the realm of darkness known as the Abyss, the threat of the evil god had finally been put to rest once and for all...or so they thought.

Umbral Soul follows the story of Ragnarok’s loyal servant, Pandora, who joins her master in a quest to conquer the world and reclaim his lost power. In order to shroud the world in eternal darkness, they will have to find and recruit new allies, build an army of powerful monsters, and raise a force strong enough to crush anyone who dares to oppose them. Heroes, generals and rival overlords all stand against them. Do you have the power to make the world yours?

Pandora
A powerful dark sorceress with the ability to call forth monsters from the Abyss and enslave them to her will. Her burning hatred for the world and its people leads her to follow Ragnarok with unwavering loyalty.

Ragnarok
The god of darkness, who seeks dominion over the human realm. Once an extremely powerful being in the form of a monstrous demon, he has now been reduced to a mere soul. He wishes to plunge the entirety of the human realm into darkness, in part out of spite for his counterpart; the goddess of light, Lumielle.

Lanith
Beautiful, deadly, and self absorbed to a tee, Lanith is a succubus with a never ending hunger for the lifeforce of men. Having served under Pandora since she was only a child, she has a knack for getting under her skin, and does so whenever the opportunity arises.

Damien
A deeply twisted and sadistic young man, Damien loves nothing more than manipulating others and watching them squirm. While he has kept his true nature a secret, Ragnarok’s uprising marks the perfect opportunity for him to cut loose and have some fun...by killing as many enemies as possible.

Azrielle
The lord of all demons, who is fiercely loyal to Ragnarok and possesses an extreme, seething hatred for humanity. After failing to aid his master in conquering the world the first time, he has no intention of repeating the same mistakes again.

I'm back, baby!

Hey everybody, hope you've been doing well. I'm pleased to say I was just recently discharged from rehab, so at long last after over a month I'm home. They ran a whole lot of tests on me and I had several surgeries, so I am finally no longer in danger of croaking. That means I'm finally free to double down on game development, when I'm not stuck sitting in some doctor's office that is. Thank you all for your well wishes, they went a long way towards improving my mental health through that strenuous time. Welp, that's enough chatter. I've got some game making to do.

Hello! When I am playing I am trying to complete a certain sidequest,

the reinhard sidequest: I did summoned reinhard, now questlog says "meet with reinhard on the dark altar" but I am confused, which one is the dark altar? :/ help please!

The dark altar is the big purple evil-looking tower in the eastmost area of the world map. Just keep heading east and you can't miss it. You'll probably have to use the southern pass to get there.
Greetings WheelmanZero,

First of all, thank you for the creation of this game. It's the first RPGMaker game that I actually bothered to finish playing all the way through (after putting over 20 hours of my time in it), and I thoroughly enjoyed it all the way through.

One (minor) bug I encountered:
In the fight against the Phoenix in the temple, using Marcus ability to raise thunder and water damage (the storm one) makes the game crash whenever the Phoenix takes on a new form. I used this in combination with the Kraken it's attacks and with Damien as third party member. It said there was an error with the script (but it kept flashing away too fast for me to be able to capture what exactly, although it seemed to be Marcus' ability in particular that made it crash, as I got through the fight with a different teammate without issues.

Then there is also a question that I wished to ask badly enough to register an account on rpgmaker.net (and to dedicate my first comment ever to it), which is this one. Due to how much I liked the scenes and side-quests, I've been trying to unlock all of them. I've managed to get all of the scenario's, but I haven't found a way to figure out if I actually succeeded at getting all side-quests or not. For example;

I've been going to the Sullivan Manor with all different set-ups of party members, and after learning the Bandits had someone from it captured, I also kept going to them with different party set-ups, hoping to unlock a side-quest for it, but I didn't manage to get a result. I've got no clue if that is because there was nothing to unlock in the first place, or if I missed something else.

There's this one house in a village where a child is dying in her room, whom I think is the daughter of one of those soldiers from Gryger (the one in the dungeon), so I've been walking in and out of that house with all sorts of party combinations and summons, but all lead to the same result. I'm not sure if it's an easter egg, or if I still missed the side-quest that could be there).

I was pretty intrigued by the Serene plot-line, the scenario's and the main story, but it ended pretty abruptly. I feel like I might have missed a scenario, or if I may have gotten a 'different' ending, but I haven't been able to confirm whether there even are alternate endings or not.

TLDR; would you mind telling me how many side-quests there currently are, and if there are alternate endings? My apologies if there is some obvious place to find this information that I looked over. If there is, I'd be obliged if you (or anyone else reading this, for that matter) could redirect me to it.

That said, I'm thankful to you (and the ones whom supported you) for the creation of this game. It even made me want to restart my own project again (if only I had any talent at balancing combat). Now that I made an account and all, I guess I might as well figure out how to give this the best possible ratings and all.

Gah, that blasted Phoenix glitch is rearing its ugly head, huh? Thought I had squashed that one. Thanks for the heads up, I'll look into it.

Truth be told, Umbral Soul is actually a prequel to another game I'm working on. A few locations and story threads were left hanging so they could be expanded upon in the next game. In hindsight, maybe I shouldn't have put a name indicator over Sullivan Manor, since it isn't actually accessible in Umbral Soul. The house with the sick child is also tied to a sidequest that is only available in the next game.

If you've filled out the list if scenarios, you've unlocked them all, and there aren't any alternate endings to speak of. I'm actually working on something that will expand the heroes stories more as we speak. Actually having a hard time containing my excitement about it.

Here's a list of all the sidequests in the game:

Reinhart and the Necronomicon

Queen Hornet in Palnea Woods/Reddin

The Krakken in Gullivin

Grelda's Kidnapping

Azrielle vs the Kyubirin

Noire's Gift

The Baker's Fiance

Little Girl in Timbershade Woods

Plant monster in Timbershade Woods

Lilith and the succubi

The legendary monster egg

The imprisoned dark mage in Arcfall

Obtain Draconus' final form

I believe that should be all of them. 99.8% sure.

I'm completely overjoyed that this game had such a positive impact on you. When I first started developing it, I thought I didn't have the talent to make it into something worthy of the public eye. But as I played around with scripts, gathered resources and learned better mapping and eventing techniques, it grew into something I could be proud of. Anything you've seen in this game, you can do too. It's all about learning, and I'm still learning even now. I say build the game you love, because if you enjoy making it, development will go a whole lot more smoothly. If you do choose to remake your game, I'll support it all the way.

Thanks for the comment Elvario, you made my day.
I have been playing this game for long non-stop. Came here after being stuck at the Rallen's Tower fire area.

There are 4 fire pits towards the chest which i cant cross before the fire bursts again. What should i do?

dear WheelmanZero, i played your games times and i really love it. coul you tell me when the second game wii be out and in the sequel does we play as hero or pandora team ps it was amazing and sorry for my english im canadian.
Im always support you great job ps a block in tower wind area what shood i do
It's great to hear you're having a good time, guillaume! I can't really say when the sequel is going to be out, but I can say that it won't take nearly as long to make as this game. You'll be playing as the heroes, which means you'll be fighting everyone you were playing as in this game.

Sounds like you're in the invisible pathway puzzle. Just keep trying to move around the room and the pathway should appear when you step on the correct invisible squares. The visible squares are hints to where the pathways lead.
thank and whywe cant play the villain in second i mean why would you kill each charcter you played with it sad. t<i really like the villain why do you want keep heros
Heh heh, well I suppose if you really want to know what happens, you'll just have to play the sequel, won't you? Oh, and you're going to want to avoid making consecutive posts, the moderators don't like that. If you want add something to a previous post, you can hit the "Edit" button. Good night!
You're almost to kind for your own good. Making a great game, being humble about it, replying actively to people and motivating them to keep working on their own projects... You've managed to impress me quite a bit, and I'm truly glad I took the time to write the comment and review. Hence I managed to turn this reply into yet another lengthy comment.

Now that I've learned that it's meant to be a prequel, I can already see how some things would play out, judging from the short scene at the end. Since I feel like speculating and got a bit too excited about it, this is what I found out / came up with regarding it;

It seems like the next game will be either a more traditional 'good' side of things, or more of a morally grey area (I'm personally hoping for the latter), where you play as someone on the goddess' side attempting to undo most of the things you did in this game and 'save the world' (or maybe even the villains). Going full speculation mode, I'd even think that there would be an option not to kill any of the villains, but to have them all change sides in a sense. You've been fairly strong on hinting about there being 'good' in all of them.

(If I get some names wrong, my apologies, it's a weakness of mine.) Pandora being unable to let go of Lilliana, the amazingly worked-out friendship between her and Lanith (which was what made me give the game 5/5 stars instead of 4.5/5), her inability to kill some people (Rozalin, the 'heroes,' and technically even Marcus), Damien having a lot of trouble killing off sisters due to the kindness they showed him, Azrielle caring a lot about the other Demons despite how harsh he goes about it (the Demon maids were used really well to show that), Marcus being in a position where he desires 'truth' over anything, and therefore being more in a moral grey area than 'just evil' already. It seems like all of them can have ways of salvation, and a game trying to focus on that could work out great, especially if the hero is influenced somewhat by them in turn and sliding into the moral grey area himself as well.

The side-quests I can come up with could be saving the girl from the bandits for the Sullivan Manor, getting that one guard to meet/cure/save/see his ill daughter, maybe saving Serene, getting that barrier around the village with the poison gas monster broken... With the idea that it is a prequel in mind, I can see all sorts of wonderful potential for it. I'm really looking forward to what you'll do with it.

If you'd be willing to take a piece of advice from me, regarding a follow-up for this game, it would be this: don't rush things due to excitement or expectations. It's better to take a longer amount of time and to deliver, than to rush a game out, but to be unable to live up to how amazing this story was in any sort of way. Although it's hard to make second games live up to first games in general, such as due to there being higher expectations in general, I've personally experienced how excitement can make this an easy downfall.

I've learned that myself the hard way. Multiple years back, I wrote some stories for League of Legends (when it was still rather new and far less developed) of which the first was very well received in the community. However, when people started to ask if I had more of them, I wanted to deliver too fast, and each story since the first was progressively worse, until I just felled like I had to stop. I only look back at it in shame right now. My desire to keep 'the flow' going, made me become sloppier, which eventually just killed both the entertainment I gained from writing, as well as the quality of it. I don't play the game any-more, nor did I write for it ever since, but that was a valuable lesson learned. Anyhow, I'm sorry about bringing in a personal story for this, I just figured it could be of some use in some way. If not, my apologies for boring you with it. I would just feel horrible if my voiced excitement would add to having you feel more pressure to deliver faster, with a similar result as the one I experienced, even though the chance of that might be very slim.

That said, I'll make sure to keep an eye out for anything new and the 'special surprise' you mentioned in the comment on my review. I guess I'll hold off a replay for now (as it seems like I indeed got all of the side-quests; thank you for sharing the list with me) until the additional scenario's and other 'bells and whistles' are in there (after which I will probably replay the whole game).

Oh, and about some things I mentioned in the review (as it seems you are more than willing to look into it);
The NPC character that randomly existed was in the King's castle, in the hallway that leads to the door behind which you meet Athena. It kinda just stood there, without text or purpose.

Most chairs/tables I could walk on where in the houses that don't really affect the plot that much, in the smaller villages. Some of the invisible blocks I remember encountering were in the forest area before you fight the poison spreading monster. There were also some invisible blocks in the forest where you go into through the southern pass. From building my own game, I think it might be due to using two identically looking tiles, one of which is set as walk-able, and the other isn't. I'm not sure though, as I haven't gotten far enough to know the details of these kinds of bugs.

Also, Demora's reflection shield combined with Pandora's mana regen skill and a decent timing in using them, made it possible to keep fighting Athena to a stalemate. After almost half an hour, I got bored of it and figured the idea was probably that the fight was unwinnable, which indeed turned out to be the case. If I had 'farmed' a bit more exp, I potentially could have beaten her, although I saw there already were some comments made regarding it.)

The Demon maids were indeed the pictures that I mainly had in mind regarding their lower quality. They do fit the characters though, so if those could be upgraded, it'd be an addition to the game.

Anyhow, good luck with your future endeavours, I'll be looking forward to them.

OMG! How could i have not known that!!! Anyway, thanks a lot. I am really enjoying this game! But there is onething i noticed, much of the monsters do not give gold when they die. I had to go back to the sanctuary and kill ghosts to get that Ectoplast which i sold to get coins enough to neet the Kraken.. Phew!!!
SilverRift- Yeah, I had the monsters drop items instead of gold because I love the feeling of grinding for a while then turning in the spoils of battle for an epic pile of loot. I also thought it was a good opportunity to spice up the game with some flavor text.

Elvario- Heh, well I don't want to spoil anything for you, so I won't confirm or deny your speculations, but I will say that your intuition is very good. I have pretty high expectations of quality, and I'd only want to release something that I myself would thoroughly enjoy, so don't worry, I have no intention of rushing the next game.

I've heard that positive feedback is sometimes given with caution for fear of the developer becoming too comfortable with their current level of skill, stunting their growth. The opposite is true for me. After reading Starmage's review, I was motivated to take some more time to add in extras like character voices and upgrade the post battle and level up screens. Hearing how much everyone enjoyed this one makes me want to outdo myself, so I'm aiming to make the sequel even better in at least some respects. I'm going to keep plugging away at the lingering bugs in this game, since I want it to be the best it can be. Hopefully by the time I release the upgraded version, I'll have gotten them all.

Thanks for sharing that story with me, and for generally being awesome. I'll be sure to put that lesson to good use.
How can I get more darkness points for the claudren? I was so busy evolving my slime to the highest level (after i had evolved draconus and the chimera each with their firs evolution) and now i dont have enough darkness points to evolve my other monsters!!
I'm having difficulty with the puzzle of the soundboards in the vampire mansion. Could you help me with it? Like what the first three are?
SilverRift- Completing certain sidequests will get you items that you can take to the cauldron to be converted into darkness points. Proceeding through the main story will get you quite a few points as well.

IKnight42- BerryRMN explained the answer quite well a while back, so I'll just use his post. Here's the solution.

The order of the orbs is shown as follows.

1 2 3 == 4 5 6

Do the following 6 combinations in the following order.

4 3 4 1 4 5

That should work.
It worked. Thanks for replying, You made an awesome game. I'm just not one for puzzles.
