Over two hundred years ago, the five heroes defeated the god of darkness; Ragnarok, in a climactic struggle for the fate of the world. Banished back to the realm of darkness known as the Abyss, the threat of the evil god had finally been put to rest once and for all...or so they thought.

Umbral Soul follows the story of Ragnarok’s loyal servant, Pandora, who joins her master in a quest to conquer the world and reclaim his lost power. In order to shroud the world in eternal darkness, they will have to find and recruit new allies, build an army of powerful monsters, and raise a force strong enough to crush anyone who dares to oppose them. Heroes, generals and rival overlords all stand against them. Do you have the power to make the world yours?

Pandora
A powerful dark sorceress with the ability to call forth monsters from the Abyss and enslave them to her will. Her burning hatred for the world and its people leads her to follow Ragnarok with unwavering loyalty.

Ragnarok
The god of darkness, who seeks dominion over the human realm. Once an extremely powerful being in the form of a monstrous demon, he has now been reduced to a mere soul. He wishes to plunge the entirety of the human realm into darkness, in part out of spite for his counterpart; the goddess of light, Lumielle.

Lanith
Beautiful, deadly, and self absorbed to a tee, Lanith is a succubus with a never ending hunger for the lifeforce of men. Having served under Pandora since she was only a child, she has a knack for getting under her skin, and does so whenever the opportunity arises.

Damien
A deeply twisted and sadistic young man, Damien loves nothing more than manipulating others and watching them squirm. While he has kept his true nature a secret, Ragnarok’s uprising marks the perfect opportunity for him to cut loose and have some fun...by killing as many enemies as possible.

Azrielle
The lord of all demons, who is fiercely loyal to Ragnarok and possesses an extreme, seething hatred for humanity. After failing to aid his master in conquering the world the first time, he has no intention of repeating the same mistakes again.

I'm back, baby!

Hey everybody, hope you've been doing well. I'm pleased to say I was just recently discharged from rehab, so at long last after over a month I'm home. They ran a whole lot of tests on me and I had several surgeries, so I am finally no longer in danger of croaking. That means I'm finally free to double down on game development, when I'm not stuck sitting in some doctor's office that is. Thank you all for your well wishes, they went a long way towards improving my mental health through that strenuous time. Welp, that's enough chatter. I've got some game making to do.

Posts

Thanks for the tips guys. Don't worry, I wasn't planning on making the game grindy, but that healing spell's gotta go. The sequel will be called Luminous Soul.
Oh man, I cannot wait to see your new game total hype over here. I generally loved playing your game it was a lot of fun. It was clear you put a lot of effort into the game and as well as the main characters of the story.

I am most used to playing the heroes in most games, I mean for consoles literally 99% of the time your always playing the hero. Never are you ever playing the bad guy and if a company made a game where you play as the villain instead of the hero. I am sure their sales would skyrocket, but then again that is my opinion.

Regardless, you deserve an award a medal or something, so I have taken it upon myself to create you a medal for best villain origin story game out there, so do look forward to it as it will be hand drawn.

Why this called game umbarl soul wha is a umbral am curius ans in the story there a thin that the opposite of the godess shards power is it important for the nesx game and marcus stor his less devlop about his fatherm All the aliance i make with pandora like sucub monsters or vampire it there a impac in the sequel. kke the lvl of the villains was the same at the game oe the ennwmy we fight
EnricBlack Yeah, I was disappointed by the lack of games of this type too, which is why I decided to make one. There's limitless potential out there for possible games, you just need an idea, some time and boatload of patience. Thanks bud, I will accept this award with dignity and honor. Oh who am I kidding? I'm doing backflips right now. Backflips of pure joy.

guillaume Stole this little snippet of information from dictionary.com. Umbral is derived from the Latin umbra, meaning "shadow". It ties into the game's overall theme of wielding darkness. The shards of Ragnarok's power don't really have a presence in the game outside of flashbacks, but they serve as the driving force of the quest the ancient heroes pursue 200 years before the events of Pandora's uprising.

Many of the allies you make in Umbral Soul will become enemies in the sequel, including the summons. The acolytes strength will have grown by the time the next game starts, so they will possess more powerful abilities when you face them.

There actually is quite a bit of story regarding Marcus' father, but it might be easy to miss. If you snoop around Marcus' room in Lindale enough, you'll find an item that will add some more detailed lore to his past.

Oh, and here's a useful tip for you, guillaume! If you want to start a new post without having to quote an old one, type it into the box at the bottom of the page and hit "submit." If you want to say something else but no one has commented since your last post, use the "Edit" button at the bottom of your last post to add to it. Welcome to rmn!
This will have to work for now, sadly I do not got the materials to hand draw a decent medal for you so I hope this will work out just fine for now.

Can't...stop...laughing. Thanks EnricBlack, I will treasure this forever! And now to enact my devious plan for getting the "Best Sequel to a Villain Origin Themed Rpg Maker Game" award.
Haha enjoy the reward you have earned it.
My suggestions.
Keep Lillith's boss theme. I also enjoyed playing as Ragnarok if there would be some way to summon him that'd be cool.
Caution: The following response involves spoilers. But then hey, at this point what response doesn't?

Oh don't worry, Lilith's boss themes aren't going anywhere. They happen to be two of my favorite tracks in the game, particularly the theme for the second phase. I wasn't planning to tinker with the soundtrack in general anyway, since I think it's pretty solid.

Unfortunately playing as Ragnarok for an extended period of time would contradict the story, since he can only use his power in short bursts. Plus he'd be pretty OP. I mean completely, utterly, ridiculously OP.
Inside the royal palace or whatever when the game concludes there was a man standing there but didn't move and couldn't be interacted with.

He was up the stairs by the door where the Athena boss fight is initated. There was another case like that too but I can't seem to recall where he was.

This was also what I have been trying to point at, I experienced the same bug.

Yeah, your balance and progression is fine. All I can say is take away Pandora´s new healing spell like you did and just buff the non healing summons by about 10%, especially their later forms. (also, that berserker guy might need a slight 5% stat boost cause he seemed a little meh)

The berserker guy does seem 'meh' at first but using his buffs and going into berserker mode really boosts his attack power. he was single handedly doing the most damage to the final boss for me in the first version, and that was without having used him until the story forced me to. xD
TO theccreater of the game I noticed we dont know if the king dead or persus9 THE GUY WITH A DRAGON) happen after H ESCAPE AND THE ORIGIN OF SEREN PARTY or athena story in it explain in the sequel i have i sugestion for the sequel tha cool we can play ech clan at some pont play heros or villans. who is the 2 guy we seen in the end scene I noticed a plot problem seren was hurt with the godess power so why he acolytes does'nt hurt when they becme demi-god
Not to worry guys, I already found that random npc bug and erased it. It won't be in the next version. Gryger's base form is pretty average, but in berserk mode he deals ridiculously high damage, especially when buffed. It's all a matter of offsetting his constantly decreasing HP with healing and charging his TP. I designed him to be used in combination with a healer, so he dies pretty quickly on his own.

I left plenty of cliffhangers in there, I can think of 4 right off the top of my head. This was done for the sake of setting up interesting quests and storylines for the sequel. Don't worry, all the loose ends will be tied up in Luminous Soul.

Some more spoilery commentation

I've already planned the sequel to the point where I know who you'll be playing as for the duration, but don't worry, it's going to be plenty of fun. The two boys in the final scene are actually 2 of the main protagonists of the next game.

The reason why Serene was overwhelmed by Lumielle's power was because she took in all of it herself, where as with the acolytes, it was spread out across six people.
how many fdays take you to do the nexst upgrate and hat is the change and what is the reason who push you to make the game i mean it really long to make a game wih map dialogue combat ect
I'm not really sure how long it'll take for the upgrade to be finished, there's a lot of content I'd like to add. Putting a time limit on myself stresses me out and forces me to rush, but don't worry, it'll be worth the wait.

A long time ago, I complimented the creator of an rpg maker game called Shinra Duel Adventures through an e-mail. Having tinkered with rpg maker myself, I knew just how much work went into building that game, and I wanted him to know his efforts were appreciated. We got to talking and he asked me if I was working on a game myself. I sent him a demo and he encouraged me to finish and release the game to the public. I originally intended to make Umbral Soul as a private game that I could enjoy any time, but after speaking with him, I decided to go public with it.

I practiced mapping, modified images and tinkered with scripts to increase the quality of the game. If it wasn't for my friend's encouragement, I never would have released it. That is part of the reason why I want to encourage others to hone their skills and release their games. We all have talent waiting to be unlocked, sometimes all you need is a little push.

i press f7 for skip dialogue but it dont work
Battle with Odin the music is from Final Fantasy XIV Thorden Reign primal battle. I was trying to figure out where I heard it before it seemed familiar. The little reference from Tales of Xillia was cute hope she has a boy and name it Jude. Overall this game is great love the story line so far and being on the opposite side instead of playing hero all the time. I see a lot of effort put into this and hope to see more games like this.
guillaume- Wow, weird. It was working the entire time before I compressed the game, and I'm almost certain I didn't remove the skipping script before I did. I'll have to add that to the list of issues to be fixed in the next version. Thanks for letting me know.

Shunter- Ha! I didn't think anyone would catch the Xillia reference. Good eye! I had always wanted to play as a villain in a non-comedic game, and I'm glad to see I'm not alone.
