Over two hundred years ago, the five heroes defeated the god of darkness; Ragnarok, in a climactic struggle for the fate of the world. Banished back to the realm of darkness known as the Abyss, the threat of the evil god had finally been put to rest once and for all...or so they thought.

Umbral Soul follows the story of Ragnarok’s loyal servant, Pandora, who joins her master in a quest to conquer the world and reclaim his lost power. In order to shroud the world in eternal darkness, they will have to find and recruit new allies, build an army of powerful monsters, and raise a force strong enough to crush anyone who dares to oppose them. Heroes, generals and rival overlords all stand against them. Do you have the power to make the world yours?

Pandora
A powerful dark sorceress with the ability to call forth monsters from the Abyss and enslave them to her will. Her burning hatred for the world and its people leads her to follow Ragnarok with unwavering loyalty.

Ragnarok
The god of darkness, who seeks dominion over the human realm. Once an extremely powerful being in the form of a monstrous demon, he has now been reduced to a mere soul. He wishes to plunge the entirety of the human realm into darkness, in part out of spite for his counterpart; the goddess of light, Lumielle.

Lanith
Beautiful, deadly, and self absorbed to a tee, Lanith is a succubus with a never ending hunger for the lifeforce of men. Having served under Pandora since she was only a child, she has a knack for getting under her skin, and does so whenever the opportunity arises.

Damien
A deeply twisted and sadistic young man, Damien loves nothing more than manipulating others and watching them squirm. While he has kept his true nature a secret, Ragnarok’s uprising marks the perfect opportunity for him to cut loose and have some fun...by killing as many enemies as possible.

Azrielle
The lord of all demons, who is fiercely loyal to Ragnarok and possesses an extreme, seething hatred for humanity. After failing to aid his master in conquering the world the first time, he has no intention of repeating the same mistakes again.

I'm back, baby!

Hey everybody, hope you've been doing well. I'm pleased to say I was just recently discharged from rehab, so at long last after over a month I'm home. They ran a whole lot of tests on me and I had several surgeries, so I am finally no longer in danger of croaking. That means I'm finally free to double down on game development, when I'm not stuck sitting in some doctor's office that is. Thank you all for your well wishes, they went a long way towards improving my mental health through that strenuous time. Welp, that's enough chatter. I've got some game making to do.

Hmm...does your anti-virus not give you the option to make an exception? If you can download everything except the game exe (the little dragon head), you might be able to copy it out of another vx ace project and paste it in.
not to mention no matter what Ido it happens half way through the installation
I also tried that still end up having the exact same thing happen no idea why since it was perfectly fine before upgrade
Do you mean before the game was upgraded or before your anti-virus was upgraded? We can try to sort it out through email. To send me a message, just click my name and hit "Send User a Message". Together we shall overcome the tyranny that is overprotective anti-virus software!

Also a handy tip: if you want to add more to a previous post, you can hit the "edit" button under your post. The powers that be don't like it when you post multiple times in a row.
Sounds like your anti-virus is more trouble than it's worth. I use webroot and have no problems.

WheelmanZero, typing is becoming a pain when my a key, caps lock key, and tab key barely work if at all so I am going to send my computer in to get fixed and won't be on until whenever I get it back.
Do what you gotta do, buddy. I'll catch you later.
Could you try just turning it off for a few minutes while you download the game and turn it back on?
i have a bug i go at monster kamel i talk cyclop and i have the besteker in my team bu i dont here in the story i am at quest to get him
Yeah 1for3 pointed that one out to me earlier. It's already been fixed for the next version. The moral of the story is: when you have 500 events in your game with 4 condition tags each, make sure you hire 30-40 playtesters.

Yeah, I had the same problem, I had to restart.
Now that was terrific!
First of +1 for art and music.
Especially the monster designs were absolutely flawless(3rd slime upgrade or ctulhu was massive/ I was actually sad that I couldn't upgrade every monster maybe even the characters themselves). Well if I had to nitpick I'ld say that the berserker hammer guy (Gryger? That his name?) was a bit "revealing" for his kind of character(great sixpack though). Had to chuckle every time I used him.
The music was simply good. I pretty much enjoyed every scene.
The Story in itself was also sound and I liked it, even the cheesy part with the "heroes". Sometimes things felt a bit forced but I guess it fit the theme.

Now for some critique.
I simply hate random encounters. It's a valid choice but at some point I spent most of my time running away. It depends on the player I guess.
The normally 4 members party limit. First you give me these awesome characters and monsters and then you make me choose all the bloody time? I know that coordinating to many members is also a flaw in itself but at some point I simply had to many playable options and didn't really bother to try them out. The maids for example were a tad too late in the game and I already had a lot of good summons. But I'ld have really liked to control many summonings at once.
Maybe I'm spending too much time grinding but I rarely used any items at all. And the item that's giving summonings a few exp (300?) was a major pain to use as I can only use one and then have to got back to the item menu.
Anyways I'm totally looking forward to your sequel!
All foes succumb to the sheer power of Gyger's 6 pack abs. One flex and legions of men fall in his wake. Thanks for playing ghabaz, I hope it was an enjoyable experience!

I personally prefer random encounters because on-map encounters usually cause me to dodge enemies, which I find annoying. What really gets my goat about random encounters is that most of the time they're too frequent and sometimes I'm unable to escape them. I made sure that most encounters in the game had a 100% escape rate, and that the encounter rate wasn't too high.

I was hoping that having so many characters would encourage players to mix and match, improving replay value, but you could probably beat the entire game with the same 2 characters and 1 summon.

As you pointed out, items are nearly worthless in this game. Items are for weak, pitiful heroes who need a crutch, but a villain can crush any enemy with their own power.

I thought using demon's draughts consecutively was a pain too, but thanks to a tip from a friend, I've made it more streamlined for the next version.

Hey, thanks for your feedback ghabaz, I'm glad my pet project could entertain you for a while. I hope you enjoy the sequel as well!
Dude any cheats for money? You made getting money and leveling up way too hard :(
BTW the game is really nice but
you made Serene look like a fool :P

Plz do consider some money cheats or getting unlimited demon draught.
I figured the colosseum would be the main source of demon's draughts, but I do realize I forgot to give a lot of enemies sellable drops. There will be more in the next version, which will make making money a lot easier. Thanks for the tip, bro.

Thanks for fast reply, also, are there alt endings?
I played a similar game called "Vampires Dawn" and there were 6 alt endings based on ur escapes and humanity.
Although this game is perfect, I suggest you to add few checkpoints where pandy makes her own choices which results in different endings :)
EG:- killing summons for xp and coins or keeping them but abandoning quests(-humanity).
Killing humans after battle for DP and items or letting them live.
Ability to transform people to dark mage (-humanity)
Doing tasks but returning the items or keeping them |(like the prisoned girl)
capturing generals and torturing them for valuable equipments, making a bet system in colloseum to get cash on consecutive wins, this will require a lot of hard work tho, but making the fanbase adds another option to recruit dark mages who add to DP and give few tips for items or add quests.
Also, waiting for cheats :P
No sweat bro. Those are some very interesting (and labor intensive) ideas. There aren't any alternate endings, just the one. The reason why I only made one ending is because I wanted the story to be set in stone. See, the sequel is built off of events in Umbral Soul unfolding a certain way. For instance, it'll assume you obtained all the summons and completed all the sidequests. If I were to branch out the story into many different possible paths, players wouldn't know which one to use as canon for the sequel.

I actually always wanted to do a choice game where the story unfolds in a radically different way depending on how you play, but I don't think Umbral Soul's story would be a good fit for that. You'll be evil and you'll like it dag-nabit! Maybe I'll do a game like that in the far future, just don't quote me on it, I've got a lot on my plate as it is!
That's a great concept. You're right, what good is a villain unless he chooses the dark path :D
I really wonder how you guys have such patience to wait for months to create a game >_< I gave up after 3 days :"(
Ha! Yeah it's a boatload of work, and making even a small amount of gameplay takes a while. A big part of what got me through was the fact that a lot of the work didn't really feel like work to me, it was fun. Certain events however were mindnumbingly tedious to set up, but it paid off in the end. The game's still far from perfect, but I'm it fixing up. I'm even more excited to get going on the sequel, but there are some other things I need to take care of first.
