Over two hundred years ago, the five heroes defeated the god of darkness; Ragnarok, in a climactic struggle for the fate of the world. Banished back to the realm of darkness known as the Abyss, the threat of the evil god had finally been put to rest once and for all...or so they thought.

Umbral Soul follows the story of Ragnarok’s loyal servant, Pandora, who joins her master in a quest to conquer the world and reclaim his lost power. In order to shroud the world in eternal darkness, they will have to find and recruit new allies, build an army of powerful monsters, and raise a force strong enough to crush anyone who dares to oppose them. Heroes, generals and rival overlords all stand against them. Do you have the power to make the world yours?

Pandora
A powerful dark sorceress with the ability to call forth monsters from the Abyss and enslave them to her will. Her burning hatred for the world and its people leads her to follow Ragnarok with unwavering loyalty.

Ragnarok
The god of darkness, who seeks dominion over the human realm. Once an extremely powerful being in the form of a monstrous demon, he has now been reduced to a mere soul. He wishes to plunge the entirety of the human realm into darkness, in part out of spite for his counterpart; the goddess of light, Lumielle.

Lanith
Beautiful, deadly, and self absorbed to a tee, Lanith is a succubus with a never ending hunger for the lifeforce of men. Having served under Pandora since she was only a child, she has a knack for getting under her skin, and does so whenever the opportunity arises.

Damien
A deeply twisted and sadistic young man, Damien loves nothing more than manipulating others and watching them squirm. While he has kept his true nature a secret, Ragnarok’s uprising marks the perfect opportunity for him to cut loose and have some fun...by killing as many enemies as possible.

Azrielle
The lord of all demons, who is fiercely loyal to Ragnarok and possesses an extreme, seething hatred for humanity. After failing to aid his master in conquering the world the first time, he has no intention of repeating the same mistakes again.

I'm back, baby!

Hey everybody, hope you've been doing well. I'm pleased to say I was just recently discharged from rehab, so at long last after over a month I'm home. They ran a whole lot of tests on me and I had several surgeries, so I am finally no longer in danger of croaking. That means I'm finally free to double down on game development, when I'm not stuck sitting in some doctor's office that is. Thank you all for your well wishes, they went a long way towards improving my mental health through that strenuous time. Welp, that's enough chatter. I've got some game making to do.

Posts

Khawla- It's a piece of cake. Just click the "Download Now" button at the top right corner of the screen. Your computer will download the file, which should look like a blue octagon. After the download finishes, click the octagon and the game's resources should be copied into a folder. Open that folder and click the little red dragon head, that'll start the game. If you need any more details, please let me know.

Sphere- Ah, that's not the first time I've heard that question. It's immensely flattering that people would consider something I made worthy of the steam marketplace, but turning this into something that could be sold commercially would be an absolute nightmare. I'd have to swap out pretty much all the resources; facesets, music, animations, scripts, the whole shebang. I didn't really limit myself when it came to using anything I could get my hands on, so if I were to go commercial I'd get my butt sued by at least 12 people.

Besides,I consider myself a hobbyist and reading statements like yours from players who are enjoying themselves is more than enough payment for all that hard work. Yes, I know that sounds like an incredibly cheesy line only a character from a hallmark channel movie would say, but it's how I feel.

You betcha there'll be more. I had a blog up detailing what'll be coming next, but it was replaced with the current blog after I had an emotional meltdown about having this game featured.

Basically, I'm going to finish a joint project I'm working on with a friend of mine, then I'm going to release an improved version of this game. It'll include several bug fixes and spelling revisions, as well as additional content such as new sidequests and scenarios. It will also include an entirely new campaign where you play through the story as the heroes. After that, it's on to the sequel, which I'm pretty excited to share with everyone.

Hedrick, Nedras, thanks for the kind words, hearing that people are having a good time always motivates me to work even harder. There'll be plenty more games coming from me, so I hope I can provide you with even more entertainment in the future.

And thank you for giving us such a jewel. Sweet so we're gonna fight for Lumielle this time? I admit I'll miss playing as Pandora and co. but I really like the concept of following the story from another perspective.
No sweat, I never could've imagined it would be received so well! And yeah, you'll be playing as Serene's party in the next edition's bonus campaign. You'll be able to learn how her team came together and what trials they had to overcome in their quest to save the world.
Interesting, looking forward to fight Pandora and her minions, especially her summoned creatures.
Just Got past the end of the Abandoned Fortress in my playthrough... I'm Begining to realize just how under leveled I am...
Don't feel bad, that's one of the hardest fights in the game. Although I do find your struggles amusing. Dang, I've been playing my own game too much...
OK, i have no idea how to get the two scenarios under below serene grace part 1, does anyone here know how to get them.
Great game btw, i enjoyed it up to this point and i am about to start the final battle.

Spoiler warning

All ye who seek surprises, turn back now.

After you've completed the water temple, head to the dungeon and speak to Serene to unlock the next scenario. If you've unlocked that scenario and completed the vampire sidequest, heading to Pandora's room will unlock another scenario. The window of opportunity for those two scenarios closes once you defeat Serene at the abandoned fortress, so if you have a previous save before you did, try reloading that one. There's no prize for unlocking all the scenarios in one playthrough, in case you were curious.

And thanks, glad you're enjoying it!

*Possible Spoilers*
Just finished the game. I am amused,
The First Entertaining game I have played in years. Let alone RPGMaker.
Very Well done.

The Ending is just a bit disappointed and left me wanting more.
Having Said That, I don't know how I would look at Games where I play as a hero after this game xD.

I really loved killing the Heroes and making them disappointed.
a 9.99 / 10 game.
Only because I want more Sequels.
But hopefully just as developed and as good.
I'm so excited for the alternate campaign. The ending is sequel material and

*SPOILER*
I kinda like how the ending makes it appear that in the future we will fight our party as the new hero who is implied to hear the voice of Lumielle, awesome.
Sievn- Wow, that's a pretty amazing compliment. I'm thrilled you enjoyed it so much, and I'm going to try to outdo myself for the sequel. It'll be a lot easier to program without having to deal with 20 playable characters and implementing instant teleportation. Teleportation is a pain in the butt.

Still, it'll have other features that Umbral Soul didn't have, so it should still be plenty entertaining. I'm looking forward to sharing it with you.

Hendrick97- I hope you enjoyed playing as the baddies, because in the next game they'll all be punching you in the face.

And to think I helped them to become strong!
Take your time. I don't want to be rushed i would love it to be just as good as this one.. I know you will be busy but I am saying here take your time.
You should develope the story more on the sequel give us some thing we didn't expect maybe multiple stories or playable characters. A new force perhaps? Controlling the good guy?

No not a a compliment the story is so awesome.
I would like to know
- what happend to the heroes who lianna saved after beating them and almost killing them in abandoned fortress?
- And do you think the light side are bad peopole? I think the dark side is much more evil killing every one for minority of evil ones who attacks the dark mage.
- is there any way to surf around the Hub world after beating the game to unlock the other scenarios?

Next game please allow us to try both sides.
Please make the dark team unlockable after beating the game.
A neutral side would also be nice to stop both evil maybe hmm

Just Got past the end of the Abandoned Fortress in my playthrough... I'm Begining to realize just how under leveled I am...
You should upgrade one of the dragons powers in abbyss and make him evolve. Use lamiel effect to make that dragon attack twice or psnadorra to heal twice per turn.
Thanks, I've got a lot on my plate right now, but I'm making progress. All the hanging story threads in Umbral Soul will be resolved in the sequel, so there will be plenty of individual stories and sidequests featuring the characters from the previous game.

As for your questions...
*spoiler alert*

Serene and her party can be found in the dungeon after you defeat her at the abandoned fortress. It's not so much that heores like Athena and Perseus are evil, it's just that they've been taught lies by society and are acting on those beliefs. They show kindness, compassion and selflessness for those they're sworn to protect, but they believe all things associated with darkness are evil, and therefore try to destroy them. Serene's party is a bit different, but you'll learn more about that when you play through her campaign.

Some of the sidequests become locked after you complete the tower of champions, and the capital is the point of no return. If you're having trouble unlocking something, feel free to send me an email and I'll tell you what you have to do.

Playing both sides would be tricky for the sequel since the battles are meant to have a certain outcome. To be honest, it wouldn't be all that interesting either.

TL made it through that boss just fine with some trial and error. It's interesting to see how different people use different strategies against bosses. It's always fun to watch, and I'm glad players are exploring the possibilities and coming up with their own solutions.
Thanks I am going to miss playing as pandora.
I hope the good side has the same depth of story as dark one
I use Lamien always to make pandora attack twice (use heal twice) or make her dragon attack twice. This always saves my team.

Yeah I think you should just focus on the light side of the story in Luminous Souls, especially on the new hero.
