Over two hundred years ago, the five heroes defeated the god of darkness; Ragnarok, in a climactic struggle for the fate of the world. Banished back to the realm of darkness known as the Abyss, the threat of the evil god had finally been put to rest once and for all...or so they thought.

Umbral Soul follows the story of Ragnarok’s loyal servant, Pandora, who joins her master in a quest to conquer the world and reclaim his lost power. In order to shroud the world in eternal darkness, they will have to find and recruit new allies, build an army of powerful monsters, and raise a force strong enough to crush anyone who dares to oppose them. Heroes, generals and rival overlords all stand against them. Do you have the power to make the world yours?

Pandora
A powerful dark sorceress with the ability to call forth monsters from the Abyss and enslave them to her will. Her burning hatred for the world and its people leads her to follow Ragnarok with unwavering loyalty.

Ragnarok
The god of darkness, who seeks dominion over the human realm. Once an extremely powerful being in the form of a monstrous demon, he has now been reduced to a mere soul. He wishes to plunge the entirety of the human realm into darkness, in part out of spite for his counterpart; the goddess of light, Lumielle.

Lanith
Beautiful, deadly, and self absorbed to a tee, Lanith is a succubus with a never ending hunger for the lifeforce of men. Having served under Pandora since she was only a child, she has a knack for getting under her skin, and does so whenever the opportunity arises.

Damien
A deeply twisted and sadistic young man, Damien loves nothing more than manipulating others and watching them squirm. While he has kept his true nature a secret, Ragnarok’s uprising marks the perfect opportunity for him to cut loose and have some fun...by killing as many enemies as possible.

Azrielle
The lord of all demons, who is fiercely loyal to Ragnarok and possesses an extreme, seething hatred for humanity. After failing to aid his master in conquering the world the first time, he has no intention of repeating the same mistakes again.

I'm back, baby!

Hey everybody, hope you've been doing well. I'm pleased to say I was just recently discharged from rehab, so at long last after over a month I'm home. They ran a whole lot of tests on me and I had several surgeries, so I am finally no longer in danger of croaking. That means I'm finally free to double down on game development, when I'm not stuck sitting in some doctor's office that is. Thank you all for your well wishes, they went a long way towards improving my mental health through that strenuous time. Welp, that's enough chatter. I've got some game making to do.

Posts

Hi all. I finished up the game last night and I have to say, "What a show!"
I really enjoyed it through and through, though it was a bit easy for my taste (huge SMT fan here). For some spoilers:

The hardest battle I fought was the "unwinnable" battle against Athena, right before Lanith's sacrifice. I got into a stalemate for a while (30 mins) with Athena when I was using Hilda. Her "Berserk" revive came in handy, but she wasn't accurate enough to deal consistent damage, so I had to summon someone else. Athena managed to kill 4 of my summons before I figured out a strategy for her. I basically exploited her weakness to "Stun" by using "Titan Fang" with my final form Draconus. I managed to defeat her and received 7000 exp, but the next scene continued on as if I lost and Pandora needed help. Boy, was that a rush!
Toughest battle I've won in a while!

Anyway, awesome job WheelmanZero and I'm looking forward to more of your work. Playing from the villians perspective was refreshingly unique.

Heyo Zadok! Nothing makes me happier than to hear when someone has enjoyed the game, so thanks for sharing. It makes you feel like all the work was worth it, you know? But man, so many people keep winning that battle thanks to some of the characters more broken abilities. I've added a new outcome to that scene if you do win for the ultimate edition, since so many people seem to be better at my own game than I am.

But yeah, if you can beat the SMT games, then this game probably seems easier to beat than Yoshi's story. I've ramped up the difficulty a bit and nerfed some of the more game-breaking skills for the next version, so hopefully it'll be more of a challenge. Thanks for playing, man!

yeah maybe make a medium and hard difficulty mode for the luminous soul ^^. also i pretty much killed athena with ease when i used myra, she is easy to bound and poison deals a lot of damage on her. may i know what is the outcome if you win that fight?
Of course. I'll send it to you in an email to avoid maximum spoilerage.
i keep getting file update notifications. Is this the second part or minor bug fixes for first one?
Nah, I haven't updated the game since the Dark Rebirth update, and that was quite a while ago. I personally prefer major updates to a bunch of small ones. If you're getting notifications on this game, it's probably because someone is saying something on one of its pages. When you're subscribed, the site sends you a message every time anyone makes a post here.
Hey there WheelmanZero, i would like to say that i have been enjoying this game so far and it's really amazing honestly, but i'm kinda having a problem here, everytime i get to the scene where Marcus destroys the Goddess' Arclight the game crashes and closes by itself and the same thing happens when Ragnarok falls in Reinhart's trap, do you have any idea how can i fix this problem? or is there some kind of file i should download to prevent this from happening?
That's really weird. Does it give you any kind of message when it crashes?
So it just closes by itself? Never heard of a glitch like that before. You have the rtp for rpg maker vx ace installed, right?
If you like, I can send you my email, then you can send me your save file and I'll investigate it.
Sure thing. but, does this has to do with AC3 Filter?
Yo Wheelman! Longtime no Lemonade. Anyway, Where is the update i have been waiting for more than a year? or maybe more than 2 years?
Just breathe slowly and put the torch down, Silver. I don't want to have to use this bucket of water if I don't have to.

At this point it's more of an extension of the story than an update. A lot of the maps are getting an upgrade and you get to play as a new party, which means new attacks, with new animations and new enemies. There's a new summon in there too, and a few that couldn't evolve before are getting new forms. Naturally there are more scenarios as well. I think I'm looking at around 10 new ones right now. Of course actually implementing all this stuff takes some time, but it's been going quite well in my humble opinion.

By the way, I'm thirsty for lemonade now because of you, so thanks for that.
I keep checking this comments section every now and then, but haven't posted. But I feel I need to, so here goes.

In the midst of people pushing to ask for updates, negative comments, and even outright insulting people, you've shown saintly levels of patience. But remember that there's also those who are doing the same, who'll wait for the update to your game, no matter how long it takes.

The original Umbral Soul was a great game, and still is, and you've put a ton of work into it since. Take as long as you need, and ignore the naysayers. I personally would much rather see a fully fleshed out product and wait much longer than see something rushed and unfinished just because people keep asking for it.

Make your awesome game even more awesome, and take as long as you need. I'll keep waiting, as will many others with actual patience, and thank you for continuing to put your time, and hard work into your amazing game.

Yeah I know this post comes off as pandering and sucking-up, but I mean, I feel like some positive reinforcement is needed with all the... Other, stuff. >_>;
Hey thanks Sadrack, a little encouragement goes a long way let me tell ya. I will say however, that everyone has been incredibly patient in waiting for the final version of this game. I mean, I haven't even received a single death threat in the mail yet! That being said, thanks peeps. You guys are alright.

One of the main reasons this last upgrade is taking so long is because I want this to be my final revisit to the game. I've been working on it for ages now and I want to be able to walk away from it without having any lingering regrets. I want it to be as complete as possible, so I can truly be satisfied with it. This game has been my baby for years, and I want it to be the best I can make it.

There hasn't been any real stress inducing sense of urgency when it comes to releasing the final version, thanks to everyone being so understanding, and I'm more than happy to give an update to anyone who's curious about my progress. That being said, no one needs to feel like they're pressuring me when they ask about the game. If anything, I appreciate that people are still interested. Thanks again Sadrack, and thanks to all the awesome players still following this page.
Little over 9000 downloads...
Actually...
Even her step at darkens, i not get her guility... peoples sometimes hate easier what them at ... you knows...

Nice maps and cruel destinys...

But... nice work at it...
Been a bit but I'll also drop some encouragement for you. I am definitely still following the project and eagerly awaiting the update/rerelease/new version/whatever you'll call it but definitely take your time! You're basically making an entire new game on top of it so it's going to take a while!

PS my offer to beta still stands though thankfully I am no longer unemployed (unthankfully, I start at 4 AM so that sucks lol)
Hey, good for you man! I know all too well how much of a pain in the booty work can be, but at least you're making that sweet, sweet cheddar. Thanks for the offer, I'll be taking you up on it when the time comes.
