Over two hundred years ago, the five heroes defeated the god of darkness; Ragnarok, in a climactic struggle for the fate of the world. Banished back to the realm of darkness known as the Abyss, the threat of the evil god had finally been put to rest once and for all...or so they thought.

Umbral Soul follows the story of Ragnarok’s loyal servant, Pandora, who joins her master in a quest to conquer the world and reclaim his lost power. In order to shroud the world in eternal darkness, they will have to find and recruit new allies, build an army of powerful monsters, and raise a force strong enough to crush anyone who dares to oppose them. Heroes, generals and rival overlords all stand against them. Do you have the power to make the world yours?

Pandora
A powerful dark sorceress with the ability to call forth monsters from the Abyss and enslave them to her will. Her burning hatred for the world and its people leads her to follow Ragnarok with unwavering loyalty.

Ragnarok
The god of darkness, who seeks dominion over the human realm. Once an extremely powerful being in the form of a monstrous demon, he has now been reduced to a mere soul. He wishes to plunge the entirety of the human realm into darkness, in part out of spite for his counterpart; the goddess of light, Lumielle.

Lanith
Beautiful, deadly, and self absorbed to a tee, Lanith is a succubus with a never ending hunger for the lifeforce of men. Having served under Pandora since she was only a child, she has a knack for getting under her skin, and does so whenever the opportunity arises.

Damien
A deeply twisted and sadistic young man, Damien loves nothing more than manipulating others and watching them squirm. While he has kept his true nature a secret, Ragnarok’s uprising marks the perfect opportunity for him to cut loose and have some fun...by killing as many enemies as possible.

Azrielle
The lord of all demons, who is fiercely loyal to Ragnarok and possesses an extreme, seething hatred for humanity. After failing to aid his master in conquering the world the first time, he has no intention of repeating the same mistakes again.

I'm back, baby!

Hey everybody, hope you've been doing well. I'm pleased to say I was just recently discharged from rehab, so at long last after over a month I'm home. They ran a whole lot of tests on me and I had several surgeries, so I am finally no longer in danger of croaking. That means I'm finally free to double down on game development, when I'm not stuck sitting in some doctor's office that is. Thank you all for your well wishes, they went a long way towards improving my mental health through that strenuous time. Welp, that's enough chatter. I've got some game making to do.

This was a pretty awesome game, that is for sure.

And while completely unintentional, let me just say. As someone who also played The last Sovereign, the specific guy who heard the Goddess's voice had me laughing due to the coincidence.

Hey thanks, glad you enjoyed it. One sliiiight disadvantage of making rpg maker games is that everyone is drawing largely from the same pool of resources, so familiar faces end up popping up in a lot of different games. I didn't see very many games use Hibiki's Dark Heroes though, so that ended up working to my advantage. (Though I'd love to play a game that uses them.)

As for the hero's face, I had only seen it in maybe one or two other games, so I thought using it might make mine feel a little more unique. Doh! Welp, whaddaya gonna do? Better than using Harold I guess, although I do love Harold.
Was honestly the perfect person to hear a goddess's voice honestly. Anyway, keep up the good work. Can't wait to see what else you end up creating.
i have question did you correct the fact we can teleport in reart tower and how fair are you with beta testing for wallktrou end demo of seren side
All the glitches that I know of have been fixed, so no worries there. The hero side story isn't done yet, so I can't do any beta testing.
Man, this is one of my favorite RPG maker games I hate finishing.

I really liked a lot in this game, the characters for the most part, the general theme of the game, and story. I would have liked maybe some choices but that isn't a major issue.

Wasn't a fan of the abundant random encounters, especially toward the end, mostly cause they where more inconvenient then anything else. It really wasn't possible to lose them, nor did they inflict relevant damage, so they just ended up breaking the flow and being annoying.

A major gripe for me with the game was the constant "cutscene lose", where in I comfortably beat the boss but then they win anyway in the cutscene, and I need help or a sudden power up, or they get away cause shit happens, or even the characters acting like it was a hard fight. I kind of dislike this period as a concept, I think the cutscene should reflect the result, as much as possible, but I really felt like it was way overdone in this game, I can't even think of any important boss where it didn't happen.

I kind of felt the end was rushed and it ends really unsatisfying, which kind of brought me to the whole "hate that I finished it" part. I did read through your messages here and saw that a sequel is in the works, and it was all planned out as half the story which is nice and am looking forward to give it a go whenever it might come out.

Also at the end, I felt like all the scenes with Lanith where kind of unearned. I mean, I just didn't see their relationship as that close, I never felt like it was portrayed well enough during the game. Maybe I missed some things, since I rarely used her as a summon, as I felt she was really weak, but short of the "Growing up with a Succubus" story, there wasn't really anything and, whilst that was charming in its own way, it didn't really warrant the events at the end from either side. Then again, I didn't get all the stories so I might have missed something.

I would like to know though, if it is possible for you to say, will the sequel follow Pandora ? or will it be some random new good mc ? Cause for me, the current MC's story really wasn't finished in any way, shape, or form.
Greetings and salutations, Kezmark! Thanks for the comment. Anytime someone uses the word "favorite" in their description of this game, I start flipping out.

I understand what you mean about cutscene outcomes and boss battles. Exactly what an HP bar means tends to be arbitrary when it comes to rpg's. Sometimes, reducing a boss' health to zero means they explode into a million pieces. Other times the boss will just dust himself off and go "lol You dirtied my favorite coat." I feel like it needs to be that way though, for the sake of the story. Recurring characters can't afford to die or be critically wounded in the fight they debut in, or it would limit what could be done with them in the future. A lot of the time, winning a fight against a foe and having them brush it off afterwards is a way to convey that they weren't taking things seriously.

After you defeat Athena in Aster Forest, you'll find a woman running back and forth outside of the Inn in Arcfall. Talking to her unlocks a series of sidequests and scenarios that explore how deep the bond between Pandora and Lanith goes. I'm glad I got to hear the perspective of someone who completed the game without doing that quest though, since I never really thought of how that scene would feel without having done it. If you're interested and have a save from before entering the capital, you might wanna give it a go.

The sequel does indeed follow a group of characters looking to undo the damage Pandora has done, but I think you'll be glad to hear that it's as much about the villains as it is the heroes. Normally villains are just obstacles to be overcome, with only the major baddies having any substantial development. In the sequel, both the villains and heroes come face to face with their own personal issues, and each individual character's story comes to a decisive end, for better or worse. Pandora's story in particular affects the entire cast and the world in which they live. In a way, the sequel is a continuation of Pandora's story, told from the perspective of a different character. I hope that makes more sense typed out than it did in my head.
Well, didn't expect such a fast reply, so thanks!

After going through Lanith's sidequest chain, it does make it better, so thanks for that. In any case, even though I'd have liked it to continue playing as Pandora in the sequel, still looking forward to see where it goes with the story.
i notice some sumon are ussless in the arena like demon maid and poison monster in he lake do you plan ad more iteam who do auto lrvel un and i think in final zone of the game the moob are too easy and the skill instic of marcus ( saw hp) is usless we aready have sift button

last ting do you plan put a gude on doc document fore who wish saw all new contnent
There's a new item called a Demon's Draft that grants a summon 10x the experience as a Demon's Draught, so you won't have to spend as much time feeding exp to your summons. It's a little cheaper than buying 10 Demon's Draughts, so you'll be getting more bang for your buck. Also, I've made it so both draughts and drafts can be used successively, so you won't have to keep going into your item menu to use one. Money is more common now as well, so there'll be little need to grind up your summons one by one.

If the last area's enemies seem weak, it probably means you're OP, which is a good thing. The main point of this game was to fulfill my desire of being an OP villain smiting everything in my way. The Ultimate Edition will be a bit harder due to some changes though. Also, Insight has been fixed.

I had heard a few comments about people wanting a guide so they don't miss anything, and I'd like for everyone to be able to see everything (since it was a pain in the booty to make), so there will be a guide included in the Ultimate Edition. It will tell you how to start sidequests and obtain all the summons. Of course I'm not in the habit of hiding content, so the new sidequests should be fairly easy to bump into even without the guide.

i spy with my little eye that someone mentioned the word 'beta', so i would like to mention once again that when the time comes, i would very happily be a beta tester ^_^

also, my memory sucks so i have no idea if i noticed it and commented on it before, but i see over 10 000 downloads, so i just wanna say congratulations, you deserve it so much :3

additional random thought: i would also gladly be alpha tester, and pre-alpha tester, and pre-pre-alpha tester and pre-pre- *miriel.exe encountered an error*
Wow! Just Perfect ! How brilliant it is to make the villains win as well as play as the villains! The story is amazing... no just perfection.
I loved all the characters and NPCs ( especially all the Pandora's monsters ).
I didn't realize that we will be the actual villans until the school and Marcus arc. " OH BOY, we are really the bad guys". It felt powerful ... I guess!

I know it's a long shot! but at the end of the game it seemed new heroes will rise. Is there any hope you are going to make a game about it from the heroes POV?
And why did Pandy seemed dying at the end and told Lanith to get the power from Ragnarok but anyway took it too?
Happy to hear it, because making the player feel powerful was the main point of this game. I'll hide the rest of my response behind this convenient spoiler tab, to shield the public from the scourge of spoilers.

In the next game you play as a new group of heroes trying to undo everything you did in this game. At the end of the game, Pandora figured her lifelong mission was over, and Ragnarok was about to be revived. There's a reason why she said it the way she did, but that won't be revealed until the sequel. Since it turned out her mission wasn't over after all, she absorbed the power of the corrupted Shards of Divinity in order to achieve her goal. The power was split between all of the Acolytes, and Pandora wanted Lanith to have some of it so she could become stronger, making her less likely to get injured again.
hello i notice a bug at castle if you get sanson at marcus quest act when youget him at nex quest he lodt his level plus in story why you put action to rase pandora stat ike the visit in her town only to drop in the end of game and where can i star gringer side quest and azzriel side quest after vampire
It'll all be in the guide dude, don't worry.
There's a soft lock at the beginning of the game if you manage to beat Jeremy while he's borrowing Lumielle's power. Since Lumielle can't be damaged and can't attack you're stuck in the battle until you reset the game.

My strategy in the fights was, first fight: Realm of Darkness, Soul Corrosion->Derrek, Soul Corrosion->Wystelle, Infernal Eruption.
Second fight: Black Hole->Derrek, Wystelle, Jeremy, Rallen, Lyra.
Third Fight: Realm of Darkness, Malevolent Aura(Repeated once), Black Hole->Jeremy(Repeatedly).
Curse your competence, BefuddledMage28! I knew there'd be someone crazy enough to actually beat that battle. The bad news is, I didn't realize that until after I had released the game. It was an easy fix though; just had to give Jeremy a state that makes him immune to death at the start of the battle. He can now endure anything, through the power of friendship. Friendship is overpowered.

This and many more fixes and updates will be released together in the Ultimate Edition, since the patches I kept adding were getting a little too numerous. My goal is to make it different enough, shiny enough, and with enough new content that players who have beaten the vanilla version will want to give it a go. Kind of like what Persona 5 did with P5 The Royal.
Don't mind me I'm just here for a 10th replay a 2 years later. Best game ever. Make a commercial one though and a sequel to this one.
Meh, going commercial isn't really an option for me, since it would severely limit what I'd be able to do due to copyright and whatnot. I'd have to replace at least half of the assets I'm using to make the game acceptable for sale. Money makes everything more complicated, and the fact that people are enjoying themselves is reward enough for me. There is a sequel in the works though, so you can look forward to that. Thanks for the awesome compliment by the way, it's hearing things like this that spur me on to try and outdo myself.

10 replay i done 83 and each time i noti arielle have space in skill list for one kill you coud ad same gringer cause that empty n the skill menu coud put full art character in menu and mabe ad a otion to replay past scenes likea book of memori ou can saw all art for enemi player hear music or hear all song after game complete like in tales of grace
Thats why you start an indiegogo, patreon, kickstarter, or/and paypal tip thing. Im sure people will help fund your sequel especially if you link to your first game. It's that good.
